Following United’s 1-0 defeat away to Boro where fans chanted for the removal of Chairman Freddy Shepherd the media have came out in force to report on it and here at N.O we’ve pasted them up for your perusal.

Nigel PearsonAs most of you are now no doubt aware we have a new number two in the shape of Nigel Pearson who was in the dugout at Middlesbrough yesterday.

Speaking of the appointment Roeder said:

“I’m delighted to be able to bring Nigel in, and I’m sure he will be a great asset for us.

“I have been very patient, I didn’t rush into anything and I’m glad I didn’t.

“Niegl is someone who will help me greatly. I know him having been on coaching courses with him, and I like the way he works.

“I saw he had left West Brom, so I moved quickly. I’m happy to have him here, and I know Nigel is looking forward to the challenge.”

And Pearson himself on landing the job:

“I spoke to Glenn Roeder in the middle of last week, and he asked me if I was interested in joining the club.

“I had interest from a lot of places, but chances like this don’t come around too often.

“Newcastle United is a massive club and a fantastic opportunity. It really is a huge club, with expectations that match the size of it.

“Things aren’t exactly how we want them at the minute. It was disappointing to lose in the fashion that we did against Middlesbrough.

“People won’t dwell on the good side of our performance. We’re a club with huge expectations, and we have to accept that responsibility and put it right.

Well at least they both have something in common - relegation!

When it was rumoured that we were in for Damien Duff the first thoughts that came into my mind were “why” and “here we go again with the trophy signings” - quickly followed by “please don’t let this be true.”
