Graeme Souness calls it bad luck, Glenn Roeder obviously doesn’t use it as an excuse and Sam Allardyce seems baffled. I’m talking about injuries. We’ve had new training pitches laid, a new club doctor and now a new state of the art pitch installed at St James’ Park, but our players just can’t stop getting injured. From strains to tears and twists to fractures, our players are literally hitting the ground while running.

You could say that the summer signing of largely unknown Villarreal left-back Jose Enrique, has sparked the most excitement amongst the Geordie nation as far as all our summer signings go. Fortunately, regular forum-goer ‘Arkanoider’ was on the scene for us as Enrique wrapped up his goodbye speech at Villarreal’s stadium this afternoon. According to Gareth Southgate, the fact that new Newcastle striker Alan Smith spoke to him is an ‘achievement.’ The fact that this was said merely a few months after signing Jonathan Woodgate suggests that over recent months, Middlesbrough have fallen behind other clubs in the transfer market.
