As you may have already noticed, we finally have a new poll up and running on the website.
The question is simply this: Are you happier with Newcastle United in late November 2007 than you were with Newcastle United in late November 2006?
Before you rush over to the right to click on your answer, cast your mind back to November 28th 2006…

Following on from England’s calamitous attempts at qualifying for Euro 2008, my mind has been cast back to the summer of 1982. The World Cup in Spain has and always will have a special place in my heart. It was a pulsating competition which, in the eyes of some, is second only to Mexico in 1970.

Newcastle crashed and burned for the second successive home game, when Liverpool demolished the North East side 3-0 with ease. The Steven Gerrard show rolled into town while Sam Allardyce was seen again making some strange tactical decisions. Let’s see what the panel thought…

Newcastle entertain European cup finalists Liverpool at St James Park on Saturday afternoon, in the lunchtime kick off, live on Sky Sports 1. It’s chance to finally get some points on the board after a few weeks of bad results. Can the Magpies end their drought? We asked the panel as always for their view…

If you only read the papers you’d be forgiven for thinking that Newcastle fans can’t wait to see the back of Big Sam Allardyce. He’s been underperforming and Mike “The Gut†Ashley has already got his eye on possible replacements, with current over-performer and lover of the North East Harry Redknapp the latest apparent target. Points must be taken from our difficult run of three games or the managers position will be untenable, apparently. Of course, the more sensible among us who chat about this stuff over a pint and a pie know that this is complete hokum. We don’t like to see four goals conceded at home, and some might even boo when it happens, but I’ve yet to meet a fan who even privately wants rid, let alone one that’s gone so far as to try starting a chant of “We want fat Sam out†which would surely be met by derision from all around. It is safe in this knowledge that we must still be able to question a few of the new man’s decisions in the hope that he won’t repeat his mistakes; here are (in my opinion) his biggest gaffes….

Liverpool are the latest visitors to St James’ Park in today’s lunchtime kick off. We caught up with Liverpool fan Mike, to find out his opinions on the game and the latest goings on at Anfield. (more…)
So the internationals are over, England messed up spectacularly, Scotland were cruelly denied and Northern Ireland fell at the last hurdle as well, meaning that next summer’s European Championships finals will not contain any British representatives.
But more importantly, what of our players? Here’s what happened.

This time out, I’ve decided to avoid all controversial subjects and take a look at the bread and butter of football: goals. This will be part 1 of a series in which we’ll take a look at how, what and when goals are both scored and conceded. Nothing that could cause any arguments there… right?

And so the time has come once again for international football to make yet another of its rude interruptions so that a bunch of teams that interest us far less than our club sides can take centre stage. It’s time for the press to indulge once more in some over-hyped hysteria over a bunch of muppets who have to rely on others to qualify from a group which shouldn’t have been that hard to qualify from anyway. And of course it’s a time when our players can potentially get crocked in all four corners of the world. So let’s take a look at which NUFC players are where.

It looks like we’re in for yet another season where the pleas for patience try in vain to drown out the voices of angry frustration. Fans of every club tend to go into the season with over-optimistic expectations, but I do feel that there is an undercurrent of bitterness about Geordie protests that make us almost unique. At times like these, I do wonder whether we are still bearing the scars of the failure of 1996.

Martin Atkinson of Leeds takes charge of his 1st ever Tyne-Wear derby and his 2nd Newcastle match of the season at the Stadium of Light today.
He was last on a Newcastle game in October as we beat Everton 3-2 at St James’ Park, and last on a Sunderland game as they lost 1-0 at Old Trafford to Manchester United in September.
The Tyne-Wear derby is one of the biggest highlights in the season for a Sunderland or Newcastle supporter. And on the 10th of November it is time for yet another derby as the teams will run out on the pitch at the Stadium of Light. Who will get the mocking rights until the next derby, and who will be the ones to be mocked? We will find out tomorrow, and on that note, even though there is probably no supporter of either team that does not know much of each others history, just who the f*** are Sunderland?
