A hard battling performance was not enough to stop Chelsea from taking all three points at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, as they came 2-1 winners over Newcastle. There is one major topic on everybody’s lips at the moment and here at Newcastle-Online we thought it high time that we got your opinion on it: should Sam Allardyce be relieved of his duties as Newcastle United manager, or does he need to be given more time by Ashley, Mort and the supporters?

After the defeat at Wigan, where our away lads and lasses chanted for Alan Shearer, sang “We’re sh!t and we’re sick of it” and booed the team off the field, and with a trip to bogey ground Stamford Bridge next up, has time run out on Big Sam’s big plan for NUFC just 7 months into his reign?

Just like the last one, it’s as simple as “yes” or “no” over to the right of your screen… but if you’ve got the time, then we’d love to hear your reasoning for whatever answer you give in our “Comments” section.

Wigan Athletic 1-0 Newcastle United. Sound familiar? Well it’s the fourth time in half as many years that the Magpies have travelled to the JJB, and come away having lost by a goal to nil. We should be used to it by now, and two of the panelists even predicted the right score, but it’s another poor performance to add to a dissappointing season. Commenting on our hard-fought draw against Arsenal a few weeks ago, I praised the side of the performance that they produced that night. However, I went on to say that the following four games against Birmingham, Fulham, Derby and Wigan would be the real tests to see if we were really turning things around. With it being Christmas, we thought we’d put two into one, and give reaction to Derby as well as the build-up to the Boxing Day clash at the JJB Stadium. Newcastle had to come from behind twice to clinch a 2-2 draw with Derby on Sunday afternoon, and although they didn’t lose, it doesn’t give them much confidence for when they travel to Wigan the day after Christmas, a place where our record currently stands Played: 3, Lost: 3, Conceded: 3. We got our panel’s opinion on a big bulk of Christmas football.

It’s hopefully second time lucky for the Magpies, as Derby travel to St James Park on Sunday afternoon, live on Sky Sports 1. Derby’s only win in the league this season has come against Newcastle when the two sides met at Pride Park a few months ago. Big Sam will be looking to send an early Christmas present to the Geordie faithful, let’s hope he can.

Sometimes it’s hard adjusting to changes with someone you know and love well. They used to be a good laugh, you’d hang out together all the time and they could always be relied on to cheer you up when times were hard. And then things go downhill. They get religion. Well there was a difference at Craven Cottage when Newcastle came away with a 1-0 victory over Fulham, after a last gasp penalty from Joey Barton. Lawrie Sanchez’s side have had a bad start to the 2007-08 season and they are looking for a win to jump a few positions up the table. Saturday the 15th of December they are facing a Newcastle side that seems to be on the on and up after a long period of miserable performances. The position on the table should speak for itself when it comes to which side should be the favourite before the game, though Allardyce himself has said that Fulham are a team better than their league position says. Without any doubt, the game will be interesting to follow for the fans, as both sides are seemingly in desperate need of another three points. Though for all but the same reasons. Allardyce’s lads to easen up on the pressure the press has heaped onto them over the past weeks. And Sanchez’s side are all-in for the points to start getting clear of the relegation positions rather than falling down into one. But then again…

The gods are, for once, shining down on Newcastle United. Finally a victory we can celebrate. For the first time since Monday 22nd October, the Magpies took all three points in a Premiership game, and although based on second half performance they probably didn’t deserve it, they should have been 3-4 goals to the good by half time. We spoke to the panel as always…

I was a very happy bunny when Joey Barton signed for us. I’d seen him as almost the complete central midfield player – hard-working, strong, skilful and with an eye for goal. His early injury was a big disappointment, and I was fully expecting him to re-ignite our season on his return.

Well, it’s happened, but not in the way that I’d have anticipated.
