United went behind, then infront, but had to settle for a draw infront of 575 last night at Kingston Park. Everton put out a strong side, including David Weir, Tony Hibbert, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe all having first team experience, with United again sticking to their policy of young players, with Matty Pattison the only player to have competitive first team experience.

James Vaughan gave Everton the lead after 20 minutes, but United full-back Chris Shanks levelled within a quarter of an hour. It looked like United had done enough to win the game, when Kris Gate put us ahead with 17 minutes to go, but 10 minutes later a penalty award allowed Mark Hughes to pull the visitors level, to repeat the 2-2 scoreline of last season’s corresponding fixture.

Next competitive action for the Reserves is against Wigan on 13th September, but Tommy Craig’s boys will play a friendly against Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics on Monday night, the 4th.

Looking at some of the garbage that gets published on the internet I took a step back these last couple of weeks to consider if my ramblings raise or lower the quality of what’s out there. I don’t actually speak Latvian, but I quickly came to the conclusion that with no prior knowledge on the subject at all I could probably attempt to compose my articles in that language, and it would still raise the level of what’s out there.

‘Quickly!’ on today’s showing. One couldn’t help feel that despite Martins presence up front, our defence looked all the worse for our ineptitude in the final third. When was the last time we looked genuinely convincing going forward? I’d surmise it was the same time that our defence looked confident.

Howard Webb, from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, is 35 years old, and takes charge of his 1st Newcastle match of the 2006/07 season as we travel to Villa Park on Sunday in the Premiership. His Premiership matches this season have seen him show 8 yellow cards and 1 red (to Charlton’s Djimi Traore) in 2 matches, which resulted in home victories for West Ham (over Charlton) and Middlesbrough (over Chelsea).

Never has a game been totally dominated by a side without them scoring a single goal! Wave after wave of attack and still the deadlock could not be broken. It should have been a goal fest…no really it should have!

United failed to translate total domination into goals as they scraped into the UEFA Cup proper by virtue of Titus Bramble’s goal in Latvia 2 weeks ago.

The result was never in doubt but we were unable to break that deadlock. Oh for a striker.

The prevalent stereotype that Newcastle’s defence will always be the undoing of our side, irrespective of circumstance, is one that is inexorably fading, albeit painfully slowly.

Venue: St. James’ Park, Newcastle
Referee: Thomas Einwaller (Austria)

The referee for the 2nd leg of our UEFA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round clash with FK Ventspils will be Thomas Einwaller of Austria. Mr Einwaller is just 28 years of age, and is from Scheffau am Tilden Kaiser, and his occupation is a bank clerk.

Just a few weeks ago, Einwaller was in charge of Cork City’s Champions League qualifier against Apollon Limasso, while he was a prominent figure at the 2005 Toulon Tournament, including refereeing the final between France and Portugal.

We have had a couple of games refereed by an Austrian in the recent past. Their number 1 Konrad Plautz took charge of our 4-0 win over Olympiacos and our 3-0 win in Mallorca in 2004 and 2005.

The Sir Bobby salute is still on for Thursday’s game and we want as near a full house as possible to create an atmosphere that will make the former Toon boss jump out of his hospital bed with joy.

It’s only been two days since we started a campaign to get fans to swing their scarves in a tribute to Bobby Robson Original Article - Click Here. However we’ve already caught the eye of BBC Tyne, The Evening Chronicle and many Newcastle United related sites and forums.

We’re ready to say get well soon to Sir Bobby and I’m also sending a plea to all those that can go to the game that are yet to get a ticket, buy one and go and support the lads as well as joining in this salute.

There are still tickets available to buy for the Newcastle Brown stand Middle Tier, the Sir John Hall stand Middle Tier and the ‘B’ paddock of the Milburn Stand.

It’s sure to make the atmosphere amazing and it’s a night that cannot be missed.

Jean Alain Boumsong has completed his transfer to relegated Italian side Juventus for a fee beginning at around £3.3m. The fee is also subject to bonuses reliant on Juventus’ future performances. The Italian giants will also play a friendly against The Magpies at St James Park next pre-season.

“Boum”, who cost the club £8.5m when signed by Graeme Souness from Rangers in January 2005, has agreed a four-year contract with the “Old Lady” and will be looking to regain his form, and his regular place at the heart of the French national side.

As always, the team here at Newcastle-Online wish Jean Alain all the best with his new club, and thank him for his efforts at Newcastle United.

Glenn Roeder’s black and white army helped themselves to an opening day 2-1 victory against last season’s surpise outfit Wigan Athletic. In a rain-drenched St. James’ Park it was Shola Ameobi’s athletic second half winner that gave the Magpies three-points and their first home win of the season.

Newcastle-Online forum poster killers_perm has come up with an idea in order for us Newcastle fans to salute Sir Bobby Robson and wish him well through his cancer surgery recovery.

(Original post can be found by Clicking Here)

With the Toon - Ventspils game on Thursday beeing beamed out live on five, it is the perfect opportunity for us to send our best wishes to the former England manager.

Since Sir Bobby is a regular wearer of scarves, we’re asking you to take your scarves to Thursday’s game and swing them over your head in a tribute to the Geordie knight. A verse of “Walking in a Bobby wonderland wouldn’t go a miss either.

This salute already has the backing of the writer’s of Newcastle-Online as well Tyne-Talk and Talk of the Tyne and it’s also looking for support from other local sites and media to spread the word as far as possible to try and reach as many fans going to the game.

So get your scarves out on Thursday in a salute to Sir Bobby and let’s help him on his way to recovery. All the best.

After a tense but vital 2-1 win over an impressive Wigan side, I ran the rule over the fans, Referee, Glenn Roeder and a Newcastle United team already depleted in numbers.
