Life is like that little game you used to play at the garden fete. You know the one. You have the little loop of wire and you have to get from one end of the wiggly wire to the other without setting the buzzer off. Last week my buzzer went off in monumental style. A colleague has managed to get himself to the top of the guest list on the escape committee and as of August the 2nd, the word Bahrain does not appear anywhere in his address.

Nicky Butt was the hero of the hour as Newcastle fought back to clinch a 3-3 draw against a classy Villarreal outfit. Two late half headers from the ex-Manchester United and England midfielder saw Newcastle steal an unlikely draw after being outclassed by their Spanish opponents for most of the match. There were many plusses for Glenn Roeder to take from the game, however, also evident were the all too frequent individual errors which seem to curse the Toon backline.
