Parker Transfer Confirmed
By toontastic On Thu 7 Jun 2007 |
Also confirmed to the stock market today was the sale of Scott Parker to West Ham United. What makes the deal interesting is the fact that Newcastle will receive £6.5m for the player however the deal does include a further £500,000 contingent on future appearances bringing the total fee up to the suggested £7m.

£7m is a fair price tag. IMO it might even be quite pricey, and thus great for us.
Bear in mind that a player like Ruud van Nistelrooy was sold for only £10.3m last summer, and nobody can argue that Parker is anywhere near his status and abilities.

I’m glad Parker has gone. Fancy turns in the middle of the field don’t make a captain. Yes he is a good player, but I think Barton can eclipse him under Sam.
Would just like to say I’m also glad that Sib has gone. He did very well for us this season and I for one would like to wish him many thanks and all the best at Wigan.
He did do very well, exceeded pretty much everyones expectations, but when would he get a game? Lightning surely can’t strike twice with the injuries. Touch wood. We have 3 strikers who would start in most Premiership teams, even some of the big four. Plus Shola who, from glimpses when he played early on last season, might be finally coming good. Plus Andy Carroll. Young, but has shown he has the potential to be a very good player. With the right grooming under Sam and his endless backroom team, we could have 5 excellent strikers here. Our attack looks promising. I just hope Henry stays at Arsenal otherwise they could come knocking with the cash from his sale for Owen or Martins.
And Sib wouldn’t go into our midfield, we have plenty options there. Just another player off our endless wage list.
Roll on our new defense.

i think although Barton has been in the press for negative reasons, i believe that they were fights because of football reasons and problems, he had with Man City’s players been shit and not giving a dam.
So if Barton speaks his mind and doesnt give a crap about hurting players feelings then i think this is better than telling our waste of space squad ther great when ther playing shit.
Its about time we had a player with abit of balls about them, and hopefully he can bring that fire that we need in midfield and have lacked for so many years !
Oh… & was good parker left, he was been paid far to much, was a bad captain, and didnt have a proper position not excelling in either Midfield, Defensive Midfield Or Attacking so like yeh good decision Sam. p.s nice to see us Sell a player for more than we paid for them for a chance !

I do not agree with those who think it was possible to get a higher price for Parker. If he was worth that much, it would mean he had played well and wouldn’t been sold.
Parker had just some flashes of good play last season. He didn’t lift the players around him, as a player with his role should do.
A very good move from Sam to get rid of him.

For me, Parker was a good player, not the best but good. The thing he brought to the team was a desire to get stuck in. How many times have you seen us go a goal down and the heads drop, but Parker fought for the ball and seemed to pull the rest of the lads round.
To give him his due he has not slated the North East or the club, and has left for reasons which we could all relate to. In much the same way as Sib (sad to see him go though, would like to have seen him for a second season).
As for Barton, I’m not sure. Are we going to get another trouble maker?, maybe. Are we going to get a good mid fielder?, definately, but do these things balance each other out?.
The dressing room has always been a big aspect of our beloved club, and an endless source of column inches for the tabloids, what odds do you think I’ll get for the words ‘Newcastle dressing room’, ‘tension’, and ‘Barton’ appearing in the papers within the first month of the new season?, pretty good I expect.
Ok, enough of the ranting, it’s a new season coming up with a new manager, new players and maybe even new owners??. The slate is wiped clean and everyone starts fresh. We can begin to dream again.
Remember, there are 2 types of people in this world, those who are Geordies and those who wish they were!.

Not sure if any of you remember but when we had the good run with young kids it was Butt in the middle cleaning up the mess and pushing the team forward. I have never liked the way Parker plays I always believe that a def. mid. player should not be a player that stands out in a game and Parker was always sliding all over the place. He is crap, you have to consider every time he miss times a tackle he leaves acers of space exposing the back four. Never liked the way he played and great statement made by Big Sam by ridding the captain and letting everyone know where they stand.
We almost have the same number of players signed already as we did the whole of last summer with the rodent in charge….can’t wait for the season to start

i think we should leave ben haim, he never really did much for bolton, and instead go for rozenhal
PSG’s player of season, Ligue 1 team of season
international starter (czech republic)
for as little as 2.7 million
what more could you want?
btw thanks scotty, you were our best midfielder, but you lacked the bravery you showed in your first season to tough it out when things went wrong

With Viduka in the bag, Barton almost done and Ben Haim in the frame there is no complaints from me. Get a couple of decent full backs, hang on to Oba and Owen and get Luque playing like he did at Depo and I will be a happy chappy. Plus get shot of Carr and Babayaro, maybe Ameobi too

Am i the only one who thinks Parker and Barton would of made a decent midfield pairing? Parker is statistically the best tackler in the league and is at his best when playing that holding role and getting stuck in (as we saw in his first season), and Barton is obviously a better goalscoring/creative midfielder. I think its a shame that well wont find out, sad to see Scotty go but in if i had to choose Barton everytime.
Also with Parker leaving what does that mean for captain next year? Givens the only one who springs to mind but keepers are never the best option.

I think it was a good for all parties. Butt showed last season he’s a much better option as a defensive midfielder and Parker didnt offer much going forward. We’ve got rid of him and brought in a player that gives us more options in attack.

Parker’s days at SJP were numbered after he fell out with the East Stand.

Thank you Parker, i will never forget the game agains Arsenal! You are good player with good future! Also I think that this was best option for everyone!
Sent in on: June 7th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Totally agree with most of that
sky showed the opta stats yesterday and it just highlights the fact that once you get passes the 100% effort and slide tackling parker really didnt offer anything to the team, in terms of goals and assits.
and he lsot possession far too much!
alays thought he was over rated and barton is a quality player
good riddance!!!!!!!!

Thank god we have got rid of the useless cockney git.
We have never had a worse captain.

Archie, your a mupet like sam put it this long ball theory is pathetic and just excuse for bigger teams to except defeat from bolton.
iv seen stats and hes right the top 4 do more long balls than bolton for the last 4 seasons… so explain that, its dunces like you that cause newcastle to go to shit with negative attitudes.
Viduka to be signed soon he is a quality player, so hush up and tbh so fuck if we do long balls if we win games and get into europe thats good enough for me, id prefer to win and play long balls than to lose and play shit football. [ not that sams previous teams have played long balls either ]
garrhghhfgsg’dnge !

Its a sad , sad , day.
With Barton in and Ben Haim being chased I think we can guess what Sam is aiming for.
Lets just say I doubt we are about to see the Entertainers rise from the ashes.

good ridence, waste of space nd he was been paid far to much anyway, hes not good enough to get in the england squad so hes not good enough for newcastle united.
Barton is miles better & cheaper and allardyce is impressing me by the second, now for ben haim
Sent in on: June 7th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
what a joke, we could have got a lot more than 7m for Scott Parker.
Sent in on: June 7th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
Being a Charlton fan i have seen Parker for years and think that he is twice the player Barton is! I think BIG Sam has made a bit of a mistake! Parker is a class captain, Barton will not be a leader, he will be a twat on and off the pitch!
Neways, good luck for next season! R&R.
Sent in on: June 7th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
Maybe a couple of years ago but not know, I think we did well to get that for him considering his performances last season. Barton will be twice the player Parker was plus he will score goals
Sent in on: June 7th, 2007 at 10:57 am
we only sold him for the amount we bought him…
could’ve milked a few milion off him, he’s worth at least 10
