A few good points there. Kelvin clearly knew more than he was letting on, hence being able to continue the blastdoor map after Radzinski died/left. I'm starting to like the theory that he could be alive.

Like I said before, Ana-Lucia, Eko etc were at the exact scene of his death in "Abandoned" and there was no body there. The only other explanation is that Des went back to bury him, but that's pretty unlikely given the countdown thing.

Yeah after such a close encounter with the button, he probably never left the hatch again until Jack and co arrived

Good question. We've been back to his place of death a few times and it hasn't been there.

Maybe he wasn't actually dead?

Possibly. Maybe he became an other like Radzinski is supposed to have done. They're different actors but Kelvin and Tom actually look quite alike (it was pointed out to me on another forum)

hence for the need for the beard, encase desmond showed up?

Meaning of the Numbers in Lost
June 09, 2006

The Valenzetti Equation is a fictional book by Gary Troup is a book that speaks of a mathematical equation that can predict the apocalypse, and the end of the world. One theory that I came across about the numbers that continue to show up in Lost is that they are the result of the Valenzetti Equation equalling 4 8 15 16 23 42.
The theory looks at the numbers in a different way then just a string of numbers adding up to 108 like some other theories people are using to try and figure out their meaning. This one uses the set of numbers as a date and time which if Valenzetti's equation is correct would be the end of the world.

The date would be April 8, 2015 at 16:23:42, or 4/8/2015 at 4:23 and 42 seconds. This thoery can be backed up with a little bit of information from the show such as when the blast doors came down on Locke's leg he saw a map, which included a phrase "low relevence to Valenzetti related research activity”.

Also, the man the Hurley got the numbers from in the insitution. Some how that man knew the numbers, and possibly knew what they meant which is why he went insane. Knowing how the world was going to end could lead a man to insanity.

The numbers are obviously a sign of bad luck, as seen with all that has been happening to people around Hurley after he used them in the lottery and won. There is certainly evil about the numbers, and what could be much worse than the world coming to an end?

Don't know if you know this already or not Johnny but "Gary Troup" is an anagram of "Purgatory". The real author of the book and several others relating to Lost, including Bad Twin that I'm reading at the moment, is ghostwriter Laurence Shames.

Possibly. He had to take into consideration the fact that Demsond would eventually leave the hatch and if they come into contact, he wouldn't want Desmond to realise

Sorry to shoot you down, but Kelvin ain't Mr Friendly. Wink

Mr Friendly was on the boat taking walt two weeks after Kelvin "died" ,so he'd have to have changed a hell of a lot in such a short time period for it to be him.

Bad twin's story is by Lindelof as well, so the information in there is very much "canon".

Here's a wild theory which I've concocted. Vincent is the monster.

I don't have much argument for this, apart from (a) Damon Lindelof has said that we've seen the monster without knowing it, and (b) he's done some pretty damn suspicious things over the past two seasons.

Firstly, we now have pretty good reason to believe (based on linedlof's comments) that the monster has some kind of shape-shifting capacities. There's been many occasions when Vincent has ran off, only for something weird to happen. Prime example, Episode 1: Man of Science, Man of Faith. Shannon and Sayid find Vincent in the jungle and Shannon chases him. Vincent dissapears and suddenly THERE'S WALT! Another incarnation of the monster. Walt dissapears when Sayid turns up, and is if by magic, Vincent returns.

Example 2 - Episode six: Abandoned. Same situation, Vincent does a runner when Shannon and Sayid are looking for Walt, we see a low down camera angle (Vincent's height) looking out from beneath the rocks, then BOOM, there's walt again! Magic!

Then, in the episode "Three Minutes" Vincent brings Charlie the virgin mary statues. It's been theorised many times before that the monster is designed to make you "look into your past" (as with Eko's imagery), and that's what happened to Charlie here. The dog gave him the heroin, and he conquered his demons.

In season one, we saw many shots of Vincent sitting watching the survivors. Bad things tended to follow (such as... The appearence of the monster!). What if these shots were put in deliberately so that in 3 years time we'll look back and say "fuck me, they actually knew what they were doing all along"?

It seems pretty reasonable mate but I think the Walt appearances have another meaning. Ms. Klugh asks Michael if he's seen Walt in any places he shouldn't be which relates to these mystery appearances.

Possibly, but I think walt being able to "project" himself would be too obvious.

If they allude to something in an obvious manner in dialogue (as with Ms Klugh), I think that's pretty good basis to rule it out from being the answer.

Official ABC Press release - 08/04/2006 - 18:31

PRODUCTION BEGINS IN HAWAII ON THIRD SEASON EPISODES OF THE AWARD WINNING, ACTION-PACKED MYSTERY AND ADVENTURE SERIES, "LOST"

Series Season Premiere is October 4

"Lost" - awarded the 2005 Emmy and 2006 Golden Globe for best drama series - has begun production in Hawaii on third season episodes of action-packed mystery and adventure -- that will continue to bring out the very best and the very worst in the people who are lost. The series will have its season premiere WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

After Oceanic Air flight 815 tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, its survivors were forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discovered that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, a strange French woman and another group of island residents known as "The Others." The survivors have also found signs of those who came to the island before them, including a 19th century sailing ship called The Black Rock, the remains of an ancient statue and bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative, a group of scientific researchers.

Jack, Kate and Sawyer open the season in captivity as prisoners of "The Others." Just who these "Others" are and what they want are primary questions Season Three will explore. Michael Emerson joins the regular cast in his ongoing role as Henry Gale, leader of "The Others." Romance looms on the horizon as Jack's interests veer towards a mysterious new woman, whose motives may be questionable. Sun and Jin will continue to celebrate their pregnancy - but is the child really Jin's? Locke and Sayid will band together with some of the other survivors and journey across the island in an attempt to free Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Charlie will attempt to return into the good graces of Claire and her baby, Aaron, but can he be trusted to stay clean and sober? The fates of Locke, Desmond and Mr. Eko in the aftermath of the implosion of the hatch are answered. Will Penny Widmore find the island and her long, lost love, Desmond, and can the survivors find a way to interact with the outside world?

The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 60-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets.

"Lost" stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Mr. Eko, Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Henry Gale, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Dominic Monaghan as Charlie and Terry O'Quinn as Locke, Rodrigo Santoro as ?.

"Lost" was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Jeff Pinkner and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. "Lost," which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from Touchstone Television.

There's a lot of very cool things in that press release by the way.

- Henry Gale confirmed as "leader" of the others.
- Jack being swayed by Juliet (?) into becoming one of the others, perhaps?
- Locke to stop moping about the island betraying him and finally team up with Sayid to kick some "other" ass

Just watching "lockdown" again on E4... Interesting in hindsight, knowing now that the hatch is being monitored etc, that the lights in the hatch seemed to be being used in communication with Henry Gale. Everytime he went to do something or needed to respond to a question, the lights were flickering like morse code or something. Probably doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things, but meh.

I'm not convinced about it being Claire's just yet, secretagentman said that "?" was hers and was wrong.

Interesting title though.
