Keegan Returns
By James Collins On Wed 16 Jan 2008 |
Newcastle United have confirmed that Kevin Keegan has been appointed our new manager. He replaces Sam Allardyce, who was sacked last Wednesday.
The 56-year-old formerly managed Fulham, England and Manchester City, but is best remembered for the five years he spent at St. James’ Park between 1992 and 1997, during which Newcastle United were known as the Entertainers, and challenged Manchester United for the Premier League title.
Is this the return of the old Newcastle, or should you never go back? Have your say.

at last a descent manager, let’s get some silverware

I am not too happy about Keegan actually, as he can do more good with underdog teams, like Fulham, and probably not too much with a top team. Which we are supposed to be, right? I would have loved to have Ottmar Hitzfeldt, Mourinho or even Fatih Terim rather than this. Ashley obviously panicked when he noticed that money can’t buy everything (in this case Redknapp) and went for the safe and popular choice of Keegan. He will be given time, but his status as Newcastle legend will be in danger…

Good to see an English appointment, with plenty of passion for the game.

Even if Keegan fails it will not be for the want of trying, he loves the club, he is passionate and he favours attacking football. I would give him 5 years, but not some arsehole who blames the fans for his own short comings. We’ve had 2 good managers in the last 7, even though I would like to have seen a top international coach I’am happy with Keegan taking over. KEEGUN, KEEGUN, never thought I’d here that sung again !!,

The best thing about this news is keegan will be giving time by the fans and hopefuly mr ashley!! keegan will need shearer for support he buckled under the pressure last time shearer can handle it and the mind games of fergie wont bother shearer!!

Let’s face it, we know we’re not going to win anything.
Given that, what would we rather have;
a) Turgid non-successful football a la Alladyce/Souness
b) Exciting, unsuccessful football under Keegan.
Also when he was else where it was like seeing an old girlfriend with someone else. We publicly wished them well but inside we always felt bad.

Is this a good idea??
Didn’t Keegan disband the reserve team and the youth policy?
I can’t really see how this is building for the future. Essentially his time here was a failure and do we want to pass this on to Shearer?
Our defense is still a problem from when Keegan was here the last time and is Keegan the man to fix it? Or, will we now just forget about defence and attack attack attack!???
I can see the Nations press being largely dissmisive of this appointment.

Absolutley Delighted with this appointement! Finally we have a manager who knows what the Fans want and has a passion for the club as a whole! Get rid of some of the foreigners who dont have any heart and just want the POUNDS in there back scratcher each week!
Give him a season and we will be back to the days when we beat man utd 5-0.

King Keegan and Our Alan Shearer!!!!!!
This is the fans choice, lets hope they can bring some silverware to the trophy cabinet at St James’ Park ( If we still have one )
…and lets give em longer than 24 games to get the team together. No reason why Alan cant play the odd match too!!!!!!

At last a manager that will get as long as he needs to get the team back up and running again! This is just what Newcastle needed!
BTW, How much do you want to bet Shearer will be in the No.2 Role by Friday?

Good chance of some Silverware at last.
Obviously,
you’ve got to get relegated first before fetting your hands on the Championship trophy.
