Three second half goals gave Lee Clark’s men victory over Bolton at St James’ Park as United’s reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

James Troisi, Darren Lough and Jonny Godsmark were the men on target for the Magpies in what was an excellent win against last seasons Champions.

United made two changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Sunderland last week, with Alex Francis replacing Paul Huntington who joined Leeds on a permanent deal on Friday, and Mark Cook coming in for Fraser Forster between the sticks.

After a goalless first period, Aussie youngster Troisi opened the scoring for the home side three minutes after the re-start when he finished from close range after a Godsmark cross.

Newcastle doubled their lead on 69 minutes when left back Darren Lough fired in a low, left footed effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Victory was sealed in injury time when Godsmark converted a penalty after he was fouled in the area by Bolton ‘keeper Ali Al-Habsi who saw red for the challenge.
