Parker Out, Barton In?
By Jonny Hall On Sun 3 Jun 2007 |
Sky Sports News are currently reporting that Joey Barton is set to complete his move to Newcastle United from Manchester City on Monday… as long as Scott Parker moves to West Ham United.
Newcastle already reportedly accepted an undisclosed free from the Hammers for Parker and his representives have been talking to the London club all week in the hope of a deal being done for the former Chelsea man.
According to Sky Sports, Barton is ready to come to Tyneside as Allardyce’s first signing at the club but the deal is apparently dependent on Parker’s move to West Ham which could go through in the morning.
So, what are your thoughts on this development? Ready to see the back of Parker? What about Barton, do you want to see him in a Black and White shirt? Have Your Say.

Wasnt suprised in the slightest to hear Barton got nicked for not insuring his Range Rover. “You can take the man out of the ghetto but you cannot take the ghetto out of the man” springs to mind. Some say Sam will tame him, rubbish. These personality types dont change. Souness couldnt do nowt with Bellamy! This little toerag will bring the club, that now looks to be going places, into disrepute. I just cant believe we’ve signed him and I feel he has wanted to come hear for quite a while !!

sky sports news also claim that the deal for Ben Haim will be agreed and signed this week

it looks like Joey Barton is set to join us in the near future aswell as Viduka and David Rozehnal

Another Willie Mckay player. The deal has Well Fed’s grubby paw prints all over it. When will we be free of the fat man’s meddling?

So many good things have happened at the club of late but today was the only slight step back. Personally I cannot stand this little scouse Charva and as soon as he finds out where the Quayside is then the problems will start. I dont think he’s a world beater anyway. Why are we continually buying players from a club who are no better than we are ?? I do hope this little prick will prove me wrong though !!

IT’S OFFICIAL
Joey Barton has signed for Newcastle.
Let’s hope a milner type situation develops and we keep Parker and leave west ham in a right mess.

A Man City fan here followed them home and away all season and as much as i rate barton i personally just think he was the best of a bad bunch at city last season and think he is an average player and would sooner have parker if i was use!
no doubt he will give 110% for you next year but i dont think even big sam could sort him out time after time hes been in trouble and thats why if anything im quite relieved that he will be leaving but will miss his desire to grab a game and win it.
fairly poor passes and set piece taker but his desire will win you lot over!
Sent in on: June 5th, 2007 at 9:09 am
thats the problem
he wont stay out of truoble
give it 6 months and he’ll have done something wrong
Sent in on: June 5th, 2007 at 1:02 am
barton will be good for us, hes a good player and although his discipline is a bit bad, look what allardyce did with diouf and anelka! go for it I say. as long as he keeps out of trouble he can be a toon favourite!!
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
barton is a good player but its a shame parker has to go to get him. in my view although he had a bad season hes one of our best players. rememba th arsenal game. i dont see nicky butt playing games like that. barton and parker would of been the perfect partneship. if we do sell parker nad get barton hope we get another defensive midfielder so butt doesnt play. hes ok but no where near as good as parker.
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
the only reason Big Sam played a 433 at bolton was because of his lack of resources
in 99% of cases the 433 is the most idiotic formation in the history of football, unless you have two VERY good wide backs, lik Cafu, and, um, i dont know anyone else. playing any less than 4 midfielders in the premiership (in 99% of cases) is f**kin stupid.

Whilst Barton has undoubted quality, to get rid of a reliable guy who will never be in trouble and replaced by someones who has “misdemeanour” tattooed on his forrid doesn’t hold to well for me, especially with our history. Any links with Anelka are also a bit scarey. I just don’t want the team to turn into a bunch of criminals (why not go after Lee Hughes)
I would much rather see the back of Dyer for £8m and keep Parker and sign Barton from that money.

“remeber the win over arsenal?
that 10 out of 10 performance by parker, as he actually lost 2 teeth and was knocked out, he still tried to play on”
Why is that it, is it?
Anything else?!

forget all the off-field trouble, barton in and parker out if you really think about it will be good for us.
parker is best sitting in front of the back four getting things going, yet roeder just couldn’t see that - and we suffered as a result.
it’s simple now - butt’s the holding MF, barton the creative spark - and he’d ten times better than parker in that respect.
parker’s a fine player, but we’re progressing with this move because we’ve got some clarity about who’s doing what.
as for barton’s temperament - well if there was any manager in the world to sort out such a character i know who i’d want. he happens to be our new boss!
now let’s get a striker in - one from viduka, nugent and gudjohnsson will do nicely - and four defenders. ben haim, baines and rozehnal would be great. a RB too, young maybe?
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Stop talk about Barton like ugly guy! One fight don’t mean nothing! Why don’t you look at his quality! He is not like Bowyer, he is 5 times better! He is one of the best at his position! Two months ago everyone spoke about him how he had to play for England, now everyone talk how we had to be in jail!
Believe he will be our force next season! We have never had a player with his quality!
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 11:34 am
good bit of buisness unfortuntly parker hasnt produced the goods, and the only performance i can remember was against arsenal which was top draw, so like let him go and get barton in, for 5.5 is excellent i think

I hear a rumour that OWEN and MARTINS will be join with Arsenal if HENRY can deal for join to Barcelona,i hope OWEN and MARTINS can stay with The Magpies for next season.Because if they can defended in Newcastle, they’ll become “the two thriller striker” in Premier League.
And i hope Newcastle can brought BAINES and CARRICK for 2007/2008 season.

Scotty Parker was one of my favourite Toon players season before last (player of the season) but admittedly lost his way last season (not helped at all by Roeder playing him out of position i might add). I thought Barton might be too big a risk and this may still prove the case but the more i think about it, the more i think its a risk worth taking. As a player on the pitch i can’t fault him, scores, creates, strong tackles he could definately be a Toon favourite, if he can stay out of bother. Could well be a very good piece of business by Big Sam imo.
next season:
GIVEN
TBC TAYLOR TBC TBC
BARTON BUTT EMRE
OWEN VIDUKA MARTINS
Subs Harper/krul, ???, Milner/Dyer/Nobby, Duff/Zoggy?, Ameobi/Carroll
* Milner deserves a place in the first XI and if we play 442 should definately start. There will always be injuries though.
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 10:12 am
what has parker done for us?
i’ll tell you
remeber the win over arsenal?
that 10 out of 10 performance by parker, as he actually lost 2 teeth and was knocked out, he still tried to play on
he hasn’t had the best season, and the fans should try and get him to stay
and joey barton is a thug
we don’t want a player who should be on jail on more than one occasion to control our midfield, no matter how ‘good’ he may be
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 8:41 am
Barton for £5.5 mil doesn’t seem like bad business. I’m for one not arsed that Parker has left. Can anyone remember the last time he had done anything for the club?!
I think Barton will be carefully watched under Sam and at 24 he has a whole future ahead of him.
Sent in on: June 4th, 2007 at 2:06 am
Joey Barton? Does no one remember the crap we put up with when we had that asshat Lee Bowyer? Do we REALLY want to go through that again?

“ChrisL writes in saying:
I’d be shocked if in our current new financial status, that the purchase of one player depended on the sale of another, especially when I doubt we’d have to break the bank to take Barton off their hands.”
I’m willing to bet that BS has a surprise for everyone that is gonna be a bank breaker, thus the reason he is trying to save some money.

Barton the player - Great.
Barton the personality - Erm….
As for Parker going for £8M - EXCELLENT!
My only worry is that Parker will be sent back when West Ham do the medical and find out for themselves he’s spine-less.
After Parker got stick when we lost at home to Sheffield United he said expectation was too high here. You may not expect to beat teams that end up being relegated, but I do.

Scott Parker is a great tackler but did lack imagination and never really created for us, which is where Joey Barton differs, he can collect the ball and go forward and create opportunities for others he has alot more flare than Parker.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Everyone who is questioning the barton deal is a bit mad like. trust me he will be a much better player than parker was in his first season, for the time he is here. he scores more goals doesnt go missing in games and isnt afraid of pain. that is what newcastle needs. big sam knows what he is doin. dont knock it til you see it in a toon top
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 10:05 pm
At least he can’t get injured in court!!
I can’t see us playing Zog ahead of Butt, but at least we’ve got flexability to switch formations. I think its going to be an interesting week at the club. BS will want his own players here for preseason. I wonder who else we’ll get linkd with over the summer. First one I’ve been really excited about for ages.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 9:34 pm
So, will Barton be able to play or will he spending some time at his Majesty’s pleasure? Given our recent injury problems I suppose his odd appeance on parole will count as a full season. Will he be tagged?
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 9:17 pm
If it goes through a very good bit of business in my opinion, i believe parker was a one season wonder for newcastle because he was beyond crap last season.
Barton is a quality premiership player with bite, which is what the newcastle midfield needs, now bring in tal ben haim and a few other quality players big sam, you’re off to a good start. Cant wait until next season.

I’m happy about this. A little disappointed to see Parker go because he’s a good lad, but let’s face it, if he was wanting a move back to London, then let him go. That’s why I don’t understand some peoples reactions - why keep an unhappy player at our club? And as a captain he was pretty bad. Just wasn’t vocal enough, never seen him once encourage the players around him.
I think Barton (although is a knob) is a great player. Technically gifted, great going forward and decent at defending; a real box-to-box type player. If he changes his attitude and stays out of trouble then he has the potential to be a great player in the Premiership.
Some defenders next please!
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Barton comming in is good he is aggressive but this is a good thing! i believe that if you have someone like barton who will tend to shout at other players and get them to work hard they will work harder and pull there finger out!
Formation with 4-4-2
Taylor-TBC-TBC-TBC
milner-N’Zogbia-barton-duff == Subs: Emre,dyer
martins-owen === Subs: (posibly have viduka)
and sell Ameobi because he is toatal rubbish!
possibly a free transfer to a conference league or welsh league LMAO!!

Joey Barton in and Parker out is an amazing piece of business for Allardyce and hopefully a sign to come of more big things.
We have sold one of the players who does not want to be here next season, and got in another player for £2m less or more, who has commitment, passion and a need to win trophies.
I dont care what Joey Barton has done in the past, he needs to leave Manchester City they are not a big club at all and are in a state, us on the other hand are on the way up. New manager, New Owner (hopefully), and the big players like Owen, Martins, Duff, Taylor etc already at the club.
Barton will be the replacement for Robert Lee that Scott Parker was meant to be, a true box to box player who scores goals.
Brilliant business!
Now for Viduka and Ben-Haim
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 8:03 pm
If Allardyce plays 4-3-3, which he did at Bolton, Luque would definately fit in. He’s got a loan deal with a dutch club, but we could probably call it off. I reckon we could play
Given
TBC-Taylor-TBC-TBC
Butt
Barton Emre
Owen-Vuduka-Martins/Luque
Dyer and Duff could also play wide.
We probably need another defensive mdifielder
and some reserve full backs. But still quite a stron first 11.

I think its a good deal, yes Parker is a good player and I’d like him to stay, but Barton is technically better, more in the Gerrard and Lampard role. He knows he’s reached a deciding point in his career and has to keep out of trouble. He’s certainly a winner, a lot of things he said last season about Man City was true. He was their best player, so to pick him up for 5.5 million is a bargain, especially when you see the figrues normally banded around for goal scoring midfielders.
I think we’ll see if BS does his normal trick of taking trouble players and turning them around. There will none of the previously seen play boy life style. Not when everything you eat and do is being monitored every day.
Its also good to have a manager who looks like he really appreciates having money. He’s not gone out and wasted it, almost every player linked is not a super star name.
Looks like Parkers just agreed terms, so Barton it is.

Great to see barton in black and white shirt! He is very cheap and good player! Best City player in last 2 seasons, he is the man who need us! We have never had a player like him, with those ability! I’m so happy about him! I expect Ben Haim and Viduka to follow him! But if we sigh Viduka, what is going to be with martins and Owen! Nobody talks about Luque! Is Sam going to give him a chance in black and white shirt??
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:57 pm
I don’t know all that much about Barton, but I’m sure Big Sam realised that Parker restricts creativity in midfield and needs to get us playing as an effective attacking unit again.
As a person, Scott is terrific, but limited as a player if BS can keep Barton out of trouble then it’s probably a good move.
Would love to see defenders arriving next, and I’m also interested in seeing if we sign Boateng who sounds purty good…
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Sam is right.Parker must go to west ham and such a key player like Barton come to us.i think that we should give emre as exchange and take Fabio Rochemback or Boateng.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:43 pm
I cant say Im happy about this situation. Getting rid of a player who had one bad season with us through a host of injuries, a player who was commited enough in one season to be named captain straight away and who gives everything for the team, and replacing him with a player who finds trouble from season to season and is’nt any better than Parker. Its a side step at best.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:40 pm
It’s fantastic news that we’re signing Joey Barton, but worse news that we are selling our captain to bring him in.
They would have made an ideal partnership, but it looks like big Sam has set his sights on Ian Nolan.
If we dont get atleast 8.5m for Parker then it is a shambles.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Oh God no. Please not Barton. To think we’d managed a whole season without a major scandal…
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:17 pm
This would have to be the biggest mistake this club has made since the signing of Souness, the guy is a waste of space, surely we could do better than the likes of this guy.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 6:09 pm
Great signing and 3rd June! Wasn’t Duff the 20th July or something?! Next season we should play:
Given
Taylor Rozehnal Ben Haim Baines
Butt
Barton Emre
Owen Viduka Martins
SUBS
Harper
Hyypia
Milner
N’Zogbia
Carroll

Ideal signing, Barton will give his all to win something. Don’t mind if he’s been trouble in the past, time to start at a new and bigger club. Parker is too predictable for me to watch, he simply collects the ball, turns his back on the opposing player, doing that turn he always does and then plays it to the nearest defender! No through balls, long balls, imagination and also quite poor or unlucky in front of goal. When he first played for Newcastle he was really quite a player, heavy tackles etc, but he seemed to lose his way and there was no creativity. I think Barton is the complete footballer if he learns from his mistakes.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 5:53 pm
Barton is a class player with massive potential. His signing at last shows Newcastle have aims higher then just the top 6 - this move, for one of the best players in the premiership, shows that in 12-24 months the league title is NOT out of the question. Sam, great start, well done!
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 5:50 pm
Im not too sure what to make of this news. I was so pleased when we signed Parker and he was great in his first season, however this season he’s looked a different player. I dont know whether thats due to playing in a squad with troubles or its the injuries he’s had. Barton is a bit of a thug, well a real thug infact. But if big Sam can control him then I rate him higher than Parker. He should score more goals anyhow and unlike Parker actually knows where he’s playing.
Sent in on: June 3rd, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Just be happy with some signings at the moment, I think Sam can organise the more spirited players later, besides Barton in the Toon he’ll get a slappin if he steps out of line.
