I am personally pleased with the Roeder appointment. Firstly because it is a step back in the right direction, secondly because there is no false promises, no “best squad of players I’ve worked with” or “sexy football.”

There’s just a bloke called Glenn who says he’ll do his best, and everyone involved with the club knows that this is the truth. This coupled with the fact that none of the other realistic candidates filled me with any confidence, was the best decision.

However the motivation behind the appointment does concern me a great deal. Firstly, after last years spending I presume we will be buttoning are purses this year, which means Roeder will have to stick with what he’s got. It looks as we are already happy to make a £2million loss on James Milner who by all means looks a decent young player.

And with the likes of Nicky Butt taking are hard earned cash we’ll find it difficult to offload any of the chaff to raise funds for the wheat. I also believe that unless Roeder works miracles, he will be ousted for Big Al’s resurrection probably in two years time, which is obviously a gamble in itself. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the man as much as the next Geordie but for two long now our club has been hindered by the shadow of al.

What do I mean. Well for the last 2 seasons at least our style of play has been geared towards a veteran striker with little mobility, who gives his absolute all but in all honesty has been past his best for sometime now. Now we are forced to come up with new ways to play and we don’t have to cover for any lack of anything (unless we stick with ameobi) which I believe is good for the team as a whole.

Now though we are waiting for Al to turn up as manager, no top class boss will take a job which has someone elses name on, and this is why we have Glenn. So provide us with miracles please Glenn, because two more years of transition fills me with dread.

Good luck Glenn.

Howay the lads
