While I don’t rate Roeder as any kind of saviour or to be particularly what we need right now at United not to mention a deep rooted concern behind the motives in appointing him, I must say, watching his official unveiling brought a smile to my face and if anyone does deserve the job - it is that man Roeder.

I like the cut of his jib and I think we have a manager who will at least try to do what is right and what is needed by the fans and indeed the club. He’s very likeable, approachable and he talks with a sense of quiet self confidence and belief in the club not to dissimilar to King Kev.

I still feel the club have went for the easy option and blew a big opportunity to get in a top-class manager and I’m uncomfortable with this “2 year contract” thing as that leaves the door open for conjecture as to whether Roeder is job sitting while Big Al takes a break from the game or not. If the club trusted Roeder and had absolute faith in him, they’d give him a longer deal surely?

Then again, we’ve had our fingers burnt in the past with compensation for sacking managers halfway through their tenures so perhaps this is for the best and like the man himself said, it will keep everyone on their toes.

The thought of Roeder leading the charge full-time didn’t inspire me or fill me with any great hope but now that it is done and dusted, I’m excited about what lies ahead as we enter yet another new era.

Lets hope this isn’t another false dawn then and lets hope Roeder gets the full backing of the board and indeed the fans, he at least deserves all our respect and support.

Congratulations Glenn and good luck.

Howay the lads!
