Your Shout: Portsmouth 2-1 Newcastle Utd - Have Your Say

An entertaining game witnessed a second-half Emre penalty prove to be only a consolation goal, after Newcastle had gone 2-0 down to Benjamin Mwaruwari and Matthew Taylor goals. The team selection was interesting today, with what appear to be tactical changes being made throughout. An improved second half performance from the Magpies wasn’t enough however.

What did you think of the team selection? Did Andy Carroll impress you? Have Your Say.

  1. Was impressed by Andy Carroll, he had a part in all of our major moves.
Was also pleased to see Luque get a crack but actually do well and make an effort.

Shame we lost, our first half performance left lots to be desired and totally held us back from picking up a win.

  2. Useless formation, lack of firepower really told. Martins too inexperienced in the prem and perhaps too lazy to hold the fort single-handedly. Season truly over, gave Carroll a blast for the rest of the season. Can we finally play N’Zogbia back in his natural position?

    Comment by Jamie April 14, 2007 @ 4:18 pm

  3. Roedor should get fired from Newcastle. He has very poor ability to be manager. In real he couldn’t be manager from the first time. I don’t understand Newcastle must wait for play in champion league, before think to fire Roedor.

  6. rubbish first half, but we played much better in the second. agree that Carroll played really well, we have nothing to play for in the remaining games so this is a good opportunity to give him and start and see what he can deliver

  7. Excellent result !!

i expected much worse tbh so 2-1 is a good result, time we ALL faced facts Newcastle are a 13-14th position team, and i dont think ther is one club in premiership who would want Roeder as their manager.

i aint seen match yet but tbh, am not going to wait around for it to come on MOTD so ill probs not bother, Newcastle to me is dead until we replace the totaly inept Roeder and get rid of freddy along with most of the whole squad who are purly heartless, ther all talk and no action.

When is someone going to stand up, admit failure and leave.

  8. Roeder can’t make excuses anymore. nearly all the big names are back and we are still losing to teams we should be whipping. From what i read and hear Roeder isn’t exactly respected by other managers, Van Gaal, Allardyce, Redknapp and Pardew have all had goes this season and outside of the top four that is rare. He look a forlorn figure on the sidelines and I’m sure the team think he’s a decent guy, but he really needs to go at the end of the season. If we are going to spend some money, lets make sure its going to someone who knows what he’s doing!! Because he will spend like Souness then be sacked for not performing. A new manager then comes in and wants his own signings!! Why not save 1-2 years and millions of pounds and get a big manager in not a Souness or Roeder but a Van Gaal or Mourinho (if he leaves Chelsea) Shepherd - You know its right!!!

  9. I think united just didn’t deserve to win, they wern’t good enough - (Once again). Roeder can’t keep making excusses, altough it’s not all his fault. The players need to take responceability as well, Carr was shocking, Duff was rubish, Emre was average and he was the best player. I hate to say it but we might have done better with bramble.

  13. Todays result was shocking we should have won against a team like Pompey. Roeder needs to be sacked and quickly. We need Keegan or Robson back vause they are the only managers who know how to make Newcaste a top 5 team. Roeder out and possibly get Shearer as manager.

  16. As I’ve said many times on these pages it good to see fans are waking up to the fact our manager is not up to the job. However fans are culpable also as soon as someone takes over in a temp capacity and wins a few games peoples take the short term view and clamour for his appt I heard it it’s Richard Dinnis all over again, Roeder was a recipe for disaster from the start, no other prem club wud have appointed Roeder as manager they wud have looked at his track record and said no thanks.
We are where we are, unfortunately it’s not within our gift to get rid of Shepherd appointing managers should be taken out of his hands. Roeder must be sacked dont like saying it but it’s a fact, tactics yesterday 4-5-1 first half a joke, “they got some harsh words from me at half time” Glen please! your viewd as a joke figure they dont listen and the fans dont believe it. The worrying thing when I go to away games the number of fans who are real supporters say they’ve just had enuf and will be voting with their feet. I hate to say it but that lot down the road are getting it right and I predict will pass us by if nothing changes.
So my view an honourable decent man tactically inept, cant motivate and will not be able to attract top quality players, he’s a like a little boy lost dont give him any money, this guy will take us down we are sleep walking into relegation next season.

  17. Got back from the game late last night DISSAPOINTED.

After 15 minutes i could see the problem instantly which was we could’nt keep hold of the ball due to us just having OBA on his own up front. He can not hold the ball up and whenever we got the ball it was either played up to him from the defence in the air which Primus won everytime or our midfield ran out with it and panniced by playing it into OBA when he had about 3 players around him. We clearly needed LUQUE or CARROLL on up front with Martins from the word go. It was relentless and that is what happened the whole first half.

I will give credit to Roeder for seeing to this and making the change at half time which must have been one of the most effective substitutions for us this season. It changed the game CARROLL was excellent and i think we well outplayed Pompey in the second half. But when teams have players like Matt Taylor they can change the game and effectivly win it for you with one shot it was like when we had LAURENT ROBERT. If they hadnt scored at that time i think we would have got a draw minimum.

I will also praise LUQUE for his performance when he came on he clearly showed he has the skill and ability which some of our players where lacking E.G. DUFF. I have always been in favour of LUQUE and i think it would be a massive mistake to sell him at the end of the season especially as we will only get a few million for him.

    Comment by PJ April 15, 2007 @ 2:17 pm

  18. pj your looking at that game through rose tinted glasses the fact is we shouldnt have played that formation anyway and as for giving Roeder credit u must be loosing your senses it was his fault we chose to play that way the guys a clown. As for Lucque he doesnt warrant a sentance from me.

  19. Roeder deserves no credit. He is not a Premiership manager, he will be there next season and our problems will escalate. I spoke to an ex NUFC player outside my house today and he said everyone he has spoken to at the club feels the same. This idiot has to go !! Lets see what his fans say when we get turned over by the mackems next year and it is well on the cards !! God help us !!

    Comment by Scott April 15, 2007 @ 8:59 pm

  20. I agree that it was Roeder’s fault picking that formation in the first place but I give him credit for identifying the problem and sorting it at half time.

Also i dont think Roeder could have pleased everyone as if he would have started Luque up front with Martins then everyone would have moaned about why is Luque in the team. And i dont think Roeder thought starting Carroll would have been a good idea as he has had such little experience

As for Luque some people like him some people dont but he didnt do himself any harm with how he played in such a short time yesterday.

    Comment by PJ April 15, 2007 @ 9:29 pm

  21. Meh, dissapointing ya, but I can’t wait till Chelsea that’ll really test our bottle like, hopefully, HOPEFULLY..Shay Given will be back for Chelsea. That’ll be a big plus and hopefully Owen will be back, like that would be out of this world like cause that’ll lift everyone, the team, fans, England. Even if he didn’t start the game, can you imagine the roar if he came on as a sub and if he scored and we won the stadium would shake?? So with a keeper that can hold his own at the back and a striker like that up front maybe we’ll beat them. That would cause a major upset on the top, we’ve been a pain in the ass to the top 3 or so clubs and I’d like to keep it that way and I’d like nothing more then to see a very depressed Mourinhio. Oh and just quickly..Please don’t ruin my fairytale.

  22. This site is pretty bad! Is there ever anything else on it except offering fan’s a forum on each game, or “How to score past Newcastle”?! (yawn)

I revisited it to see if anything had changed, but sadly no.

For the record, a brief opinion anyway: I think GR has done/is doing some good things at the Toon despite results. E.g - bringing on some young players who other managers may not have given a chance, and also being cautious not to waste money (we only have to look at Viana, Luque, Boumsong etc to see why that policy needs to be taken). He’s a sound and intelligent guy and I’m willing him to succeed. I don’t think he has the right personality to inspire us though and really just deserves one more season, but at least - for now - we should keep the faith.

    Comment by Adam April 15, 2007 @ 10:40 pm

  23. Another poor result!!.What does Roeder need to do to get the sack?. He really is a second rate manager with no tactical nouse and his motivational skills must be none existant. Look at what some managers have done with players who, on paper, are nowhere near as good as what we have. Bolton,Everton,Pompy etc.

Its time for him to go otherwise we are in for another season of midtable mediocrity. As for his signings, Duff has been very poor, Gooch is no better than what we had and Oba, although he has qualities he needs 3 or 4 chances to score a goal and there is no way he can play as a lone striker plus I dont think he will be a good strike partner for owen as they are too similar

We need to act now to bring in a QUALITY manager, not another cheap option (souness, roeder) but a proven, world class manager with a sound record in the transfer market. I dont hold out much hope tho`

  24. Just a quick message for Adam, the reason for the poor stories, match reports, etc is simply down to the number of writers we currently have writing for us. We have had a decrease in the number of people writing for us of late they keep getting picked up by newspapers etc and then are not allowed to write for us any more, so if anyone is interested in writing for the site please do get in touch with a member of admin on the website via the forum.

    Thanks.

  25. I am dead set sick of these poor results against clubs which we should be dominating its becoming a joke. why do we play soo dodgy on the road? why is Roeder so defensive? why is our team so full of quality but we play like retards? i am sick of it and Roeder isnt going to answer these questions I want him out of NEwcastle. I also believe we need to keep Emre definantly he is pure class we could go miles with Emre, Owen, Martins, Duff and Luque in one team but Roeder is reluctant to play LUque so that will never happen and he has a massive love for Ameobi so He will definantely be in the team somewhere. The fist half against Portsmouth was just terible bu there were patches in the game when we looked like a team but why can’t we do that for 90 minutes. we have played 17 games on the roar this season and got 14 points from them and that is no way near good enough if we want to get back in the champions league cause that is where i believe we should be we need to do way better then that and we also need to win more then 7 games at home out of 17 what is that we should have won at least 15..16 even 13 home games would be good. Come on Freddy do something about it mate im sick of it what happened to NEwcastle United people used to fear us now teams look foward to playing us. Come on boys lets finish the season the way we should and win the last 4 games come on the toon. HOWAY THE LADS - NUFC 4 LIFE

    Comment by Lincoln April 16, 2007 @ 10:34 am

  26. I have to agree with Lincoln we are a joke throughout the league,a club this size should be consistently pushing top 5 and when Roeder comes out and says things like no one could have done better than him with the injuries we have had,is he saying there is no better manager out there to run Newcastle? cos i think he will find thousands of people who disagree with him on that one. I hope he is going to sign alot of quality in the summer and then have a stormer of season to prove me wrong but honestly i very much doubt it.

    Comment by PAUL M April 16, 2007 @ 1:45 pm

  27. its just not good enough
i do truly believe that we have the core to be a top 5 team:
    shay
steven taylor (albeit with a good centre half playing next to him)
    parker
    owen.

even now we do have sum personnell around these guys:
    dyer
    oba
    shola
    milner
    nobby

roeder HAS addressed the problem.. he HAS recognized we NEED defenders. i believe he is in the hunt for 2 CBs and a LB so at least this has been recognized

but goin forward is also a problem. we have NOT got a balance in CM. parker is a must in there for me because hes class. i know he has had criticism but i think it is totally unjustified for one of the most committed players the toon has ever seen. playing with him though, well thats a different matter. we need some height for a start, but also some creativity in there!!
kieron dyer fits the bill, CM is his best position, but i can just see a partnership of KD and parker gettin dominated in the air and the 2nd balls.

on the wings, i do bleive milner is the BUSINESS. he really has shown he is a class above. but he needs to be more productive. on the left, duff and zoggy have both failed to delvier, but they are kinda too good too sell..we have a dilemma on our hands, i just hope one proves their full potential next year.
we definitely do lack, from centre mid, a player lyk laurent robert, david ginola, who can shoot. i mean at the moment, if you look whose taking set pieces, its milner or solano or nothing…they are good dead ball players but not good enough for newcastle united

up front, oba martins IS overrated. i would be tempted to take £12 mill back for him now if we could. his strike rate i beleive is pretty poor and he does miss alot of sitters. in flashes lyk at white heart lane he is class, and flashes CAN win games, but the way he gives a ball away and cannot hold it up , hinders our all round play, puts us under the cosh as we cant keep possession and cancels out all the good flashes he can produce.

we need a mass clearout in my opinion including:
    babayaro
    carr
    onyewu
    bramble
    emre
    sibierski
    zoggy

the performance was shambolic in first half, little better in the 2nd, but its not the point, were a disgrace, the manager is not up to standard if were honest, and yehhh something must b done

  28. Anyone who’ve found interesting parallels between NUFC and England?

    Massive fan base

    Sky-high expectations

    Haven’t won anything for ages

    Always have quality players

    But rubbish managers
(particularly Roeder ~ McClaren in terms of preferred style - slow-tempo, passionless, no urgency, playing for 0-0s)

And finally, clueless people appointing clueless managers (our board ~ the FA)

    EXCEPT the defence though

  29. if only we still had the 5th placed team under Robson:

    Bellamy Shearer

    Robert Speed Jenas Ambrose

    Bernard Woodgate O’Brien Hughes

    Given

We’d still be in the hunt for Euro glory, be safe in 5th place instead of this team who’s heading for mediocrity:

    Martins Sibierski

    Duff Emre Parker Milner

    Babayaro Taylor Moore Solano

    Given

  30. Where are the days of forturase SJP gone, at one time it was the place that every team in the league dreaded. It didn’t matter if it was Man U or Charlton we went out there to win and put a show on. At the moment i honestly think if you told the 19 teams in the league that they were playing us away they would think we can get summit here. To me that is sole down to the manager his negative tactics and idiotic subs sums it up and the negativity is all round the place. We have the best supporters in the land and Roader should use us not push us away and thats what he is doing.
To me Roader should be pushed back into the youths at the end of the season as he was doing ok with them, then we should get a class act in and give him the money we have to build his team. If this doesn’t happen and we stick with GR, i can see us getting to xmas down in the bottom half again sacking him and panic buying someone else in. And that will be another season down the pan.
    Anyway haway the lads

    Comment by chris l April 16, 2007 @ 8:43 pm

  31. Roeder is just like McClaren and these 30/40 yr old Brit managers. Teams are sent out to keep it tight, game plan not to lose. That is what is wrong fundamentally - add to that wrong formations (changing at half time still makes it a wrong decision), “names” back in when fit despite the “cover” lads playing well and no idea what subs are for (10/15 mins at the end to save a match ?!).

Look at his targets - Lardarse Viduka (3 good games a season, when fit), Kenny bloody Miller (every clubs reject), Zat Knight at one stage !!!, Anton “dedication” Ferdinand - yet prepared to offload Milner last summer. Great that he wants now 3 or 4 players in. However 3/4 weeks ago 3 players were being carried and had no future here, this weekend 4 players were being carried and will go. Add to that the obvious Bramble (1 of the first 3), Luque (couldn’t have been him as he never plays, O’Brien & Patterson (where have they gone), Bernard (who signed him ?) then the maths don’t add up. Hopefully the 3/4 to go are Carr, Babayaro, Moore, Onyewu (crap on the deck). Emre will probably go too, I like him when he is allowed to push forward.

Freddie has to look and realise this man has not got what it takes. The team needs basing around Given, Taylor (alongside a real centre back), Milner, N’Zogbia, Parker (if he could stay on his feet and shoot at goal-not punt it),Martins with someone good in the air (we all know that isn’t Shola). That is a fair start with squad players Solano, Butt (much improved but lacking in pace), Sibierski, Duff (if we can’t get a good price for him), Huntingdon & Ramage (if employed as centre backs and brought through), Carroll & Edgar to earn some games in cups and injury cover. Haven’t mentioned Owen as I believe his agent will have been instructed “I’m a celebrity get me out of here”.

One further note of caution - Sven would not rescue this mess with his talent (well hidden) but I imagine his rich foreign backers will impress Freddie - I mean they share the same fake Sheik!

  32. Okay, sorry, I will be more patient with this site. When there have been articles on it, a lot of them have made sense and not been a mirror of the doom and gloom many fans write in forums (such as that on the Chronicle forum).

By the way, to say who we want in and out at the club is a bit like playing Fantasy Football, but ideally (within reason) I’d like to see something like this:

out: Carr, Babayaro, Bramble, Luque (not totally ruling out Dyer and Emre if we got excellent offers)

    and

in: Bale or Bridge, Wes Brown, Woodgate, maybe Sidwell (don’t know that much about him though) or a strong mf to play with Parker, SW Phillips and Eastwood or Nugent..whilst also giving Carroll a few more sub appearances. In a realistically ideal world anyway! And, of course, keeping our best players!

  34. The last thing we need is a wholesale clear-out because if you look at it logically it’s going to cost a damn sight more to replace the junk we would ship out (and by the way Luque shouldn’t be one of them), mind you two or three should definately be on their way

The overriding impression I get is GR does not have the skills to motivate these squad and as was alluded to earlier found it easier to select when injuries made the selection for him…

Now is the time the board should be looking to replace him with a “name” Hitzfeld or Van Gaal with one or two other foreign guys have got to be in the mix

If we can get a coach who can instill some fight and tactical awareness back into Newcastle there is no question we will get the best out of the squad

FS you’re getting it in the neck now because you won’t make these decisions - give GR another year and we may be in the Championship

Do it now - Get it Right - Up we go

  38. I’m going to go ahead and remain blindly optimistic.

Roeder knew that our season wasn’t going anywhere the second he saw the look on Michael’s face as he went to ground against Sweden (I still reckon we’d've won the whole tournament if he and Rooney’d been able to link up. Oh well, can’t sit around imagining what should have been.). Anyways, this season to him was something of a chance to get better aquainted with his non-injured squad members while resting his “big names.” Next season he’s going to blow us away. We’ll buy a big man up front. Crouchie would be welcome says I. We’ll play in a 4-1-2-2-1, as follows:

    - Crouchie/Big man -
    Owen - Martins/Shola
    Zog - Milner
    - Parker -
New guy - Taylor - Edgar - New guy

If that didn’t format correctly, I apologize.
I’m going to go ahead and predict a serious title challenge for next season. But we are Newcastle, and even in my blind optimism, I say we lose our last four games and get overtaken by Man U again. Even though we’ll beat them at Old Trafford for the first time like… ever. In fact, we’ll get the double over them, but we’ll come in second or third behind them. That’s my prediction. Glenn, you’ve got my support, but at least all of what I just said’s gotta happen. You’re smart, but you’re going to need to get a whole lot more passionate about it. No offense, but you’ve all the charisma of a dead fish at the moment. Newcastle is passion. You know what you have to do.

  43. Agree with Chris G. I’d like to have seen Edgar given a chance to play alongside Taylor in central defence. The way he handled Ronaldo with Taylor giving him great cover really impressed me. It obviously impressed Ferguson too as he swapped him wings in the second half.

  45. We need to sack Roeder at the end of the season. Our largest fears are building with the Mackems getting some money and dominating the Championship with a rock solid renowned man of Roy Keane. people will sign for him as they did for Bryan Robson and Keegan. Here is what we offer a player. No European football, no trophy for 50 years, no management credentials, no reputation on coaching staff, no tactical know how from management. What we do offer is great stadium, fans, some decent players (Owen, Martins) and a whacking wage packet. With these ingredients we get mercanaries not winners and it comes full circle. We need Roeder out a big name manager with good credentials in.
Shepherd if you won’t leave, which we all wish you would, then please get rid of the manager before he attempts his “careful” buying in the market which results in nothing!! He’ll then whinge that its not his squad and we end up no further ahead!!

    Comment by Deaco April 19, 2007 @ 10:10 am

  46. Roeder has shown this season he’s way out of his depth.

He must go. Simple as that.

    Comment by Matthew April 19, 2007 @ 11:41 am

  47. The attitude of sack the manager when it gets tough is the reason why we have not won anything for decades.

If we dont show to managers that they will get time to build a squad then we will never attract top managers.

Roeder may not be the man for the job but lets give him next season and then if it is not looking good then at least when his contract runs out in the summer of 08 prospective managers will see that they will be given time to get it right.

We need to look ahead this short sightedness will ruin this club. As it has done since Robson.

    Comment by Phil April 19, 2007 @ 11:48 am

  48. Roeder has my support. He did well not to sign players who are not good enough in January. What club are going to sell their best players mid season? That’s the reality of football these days. In the summer are tranfer policy was scuppered, but it will be to our benefit for NEXT SEASON, because we have several great front men now. Have patience, and see who we bring in in the summer. Most of your comments here are very short-sighted in my oppinion with very little forethought. When we sign some really good players in the summer people will then see the logic behind the so-called ‘madness’.

    Comment by Nick April 19, 2007 @ 12:45 pm

  49. why is it that when views of a change of manager are expressed it is classed as short sighted. I find it astounding that correspondents on here think it’s going to be different next season, wake up it’s going to be exactly the same, quote “when we sign some really good players in the summer” that one really made me laugh can you please tell me which really good player will want to sign for this shambles next season, who in their right minds would want to sign for a manager who is clueless, who plays 4-5-1 against portsmouth please i cant contain myself. Another one “he may not be the man for the job but lets give him till next season” noooooooooooooooooo he will take us down next season, he’s lost the dressing room and lost the fans, and youv actually said it he’s not the man for the job but let him carry on an amazing comment
So wake up, the majority of fans on here aren’t being negative they passionately care about the club watch reserve games travel away every week it’s my 42nd year of watching my team let’s not give this man another year quite frankly I’ve said it a million times on here no other club would have appointed him as manager he lost my respect when he said the fans will not pick the team, quite right Mr Roeder but I’ll tell you something we’d make a damn sight better job of it than you.
But on the horizon is our salvation Freddie you’ll be looking at 40 thou crowds next season fans are finally voting with their feet, they are not just talking about it they are doing it, to some of our correspondents on here the truth hurts but get real.

  50. The MAIN reason that Glenn roeder is still in a job is that he goes on 2-3 winning/drawing runs but then can’t back it up with a 4/5th etc. he will go on to draw or win against either chelsea or the next game- GUARENTEED. And then everyone will put the bad results against a team who- lets face it- struggled to stay in the premiership last season. Now is this fact of roeders management a good thing??? well put it this way- are you prepared to become optimistic and then depressed in the space of 1 game. well I am not.
Firstly roeder has to go however i am hesitant about sheperds position- he always gives money. Get a bright manager in that can save a club- in my view- on the verge of utter failure.

    Comment by sam April 19, 2007 @ 6:23 pm

  51. In response to Nick’s comment -

‘When we sign some really good players in the summer’

What makes you think Roeder has the managerial aptitude to bring in quality players in the summer? We’ll be without Europe, yet again.

In his defence, he bought both Duff and Martins in the summer. The latter has had a terrible season, nevertheless, I think any manager in the premiership would have paid £5 million pounds at the time. Martins didn’t have any other options, Portsmouth didn’t want to pay £10 million for his services and as far I’m aware, the Valencia link was wide of the mark.

I feel for Roeder, because Shepherd is the cancer of this club. He appointed the cheapest option and a manager with a poor track record. I can’t see Roeder bringing in any ‘really good players’ unless they’re shrewd Wenger-esque purchases. If he does, fair play, gaff.

  52. To sack GR is not short-sightedness, but for the benefit of the short and long term future of the club. I can’t believe your statement that he is not the guy to take us forward but give him next season!! Where is the logic in that. If he is not the guy to take us forward then he can only take us backward. Backward from our current position is relegation. Shepherd is to blame for this mess, by replacing Bobby with two managers, one of which was on the verge of being sacked from a lower plqaced club and the other with relegation credentials from West Ham. If we are a big club, to me that starts with the right manager, and it sure as hell isn’t this forlorn figure on our sidelines that we currently have. He is not a winner, he is not accustomed with winning and the club is suffering as a result. He knows he’s a man under presuure!! Freddy, save your money for a world class manager to buy players!!
Gareth (New Hartley)- You are spot on!!!

    Comment by Deaco April 20, 2007 @ 8:52 am

  53. It really frightens me that Freddie will stick with Roeder, let him spend some millions in the summer before we have a terrible start to the season and GR gets sacked in November. Back to square one, with more millions wasted and more damage done. I have always liked GR as a bloke, but he is making that hard now. Just look at what he’s doing to our club - young players like N’Zogbia and Milner get treated appallingly, as does Luque. We will lose quality players who should be the future of our club because GR has no idea how to man-manage. Zero tactical nous and zero motivational skills. He has lost the dressing room (you can tell by the performances) and the confidence of the fans, and I don’t know why anybody would sign for him. ROEDER NEEDS TO GO NOW. Get in a strong charismatic manager who is respected, such as Hiddink, Van Gaal, Hitzfeld, Scolari etc. I woyld love to know what Freddie is thinking now…surely he can’t think this is the man to lead us forward? If he stays I honestly fear we will be relegated next season.

  54. I can understand the negative feeling about Roeder not being able to bring in top class players but I just feel that is nonsense. Players don’t just sign for the manager but the club and its prestige and the atmosphere, the contract, whether they will like the area, there are many factors, and the manager is an important one but only one slice of the pie. We’ve been in Europe on a regular basis, and we are a world brand, and you’re making the easy assumption that players won’t respect Glen Roeder just because you don’t. I don’t recall being in Europe when Owen signed or Souness being a more respected manager than Roeder! I can’t wait for the summer and next season.

    Comment by Nick April 20, 2007 @ 7:20 pm

  55. Nick what can I say……..atmosphere? rarely is there a good atmosphere at sjp now, if you want atmosphere go to away games! As for your thoughts on our manager and a world brand……somebody please put Nick out of his misery he’s suffering from delusion. I certainly dont intend repeating myself about Roeder but is Nick the guy who said “we’ll bring in some really good players in the summer” gasp!

Nick you simply dont understand whats going on, you cant see where we are heading, head buried in the sand rings a bell.

  56. I haven’t got my head buried in the sand. I just don’t agree with you! As for atmosphere, it’ll never pick up if people listen to all that negativity. It just takes a winning team for the atmosphere to pick up, and to go on a run of wins too. But who said anything about this season being consistent! Just look at the team sheets and how they’ve changed.

    Comment by Nick April 21, 2007 @ 3:36 pm

  57. Besides I didn’t really mean the atmosphere in the ground but in the dressing room, in training etc.

  58. I think Roedor should get the sack with a foreign manager brought in with some tactical Competence look at the likes of rafa at liverpool or wenger at arsenal I think vicente del bosque should get the job he one 3 chapions leagues in 5 years with madrid and since they sacked hoim for not buying Galactico’s they have not one a throphy we have the best fans in the world a top Stadium and money to spend we have some top young players like taylor milner zog ramage huntington edgar carrol and then the likes of given parker oba owen luque dyar if we sold/Released player like
    babayaro
    carr
    onyewu
    bramble
    emre
    sibierski
    duff
    solano
    butt
    bernared
    moore
and brought in the likes of
    bale/bridge
    vande vaart/vincente
    metzelder(free)/kompany
    chivu/mexes
    vanden borre/brown
    sneijder/sidwell
    berbatov/crouch
    cavenaghi/huntelaar
with a manager with any tactical skills I think we will be a top 4 team again.

  59. If Roeder has any balls(which he doesnt) he will make changes for the Chelsea game(which he wont). The team I would pick is
    Given in goal
    Nobby at rb
    Edgar at lb
Taylor&Bramble cb (bramble for physical strengh)
    Milner right mid
    Luque left mid
    Parker & Emre centre mid
    Carol & Oba up top

    What we will get is
    Gooch at c/b
    Fat,lazyarse Carr at l/b
    Butt&Parker c/m
    Zog on the left
Sib up top or dyer played out of position(again)

and we wil get a right tonking

Roedar is clueless and I wouldnt trust him to improve our squad in the summer

  62. Ah come on the one day we really really need Given the whole of England with the exception of the Chelsea “fans” want us to beat them,
    Given’s out..timeing!!
    Our defense is a shambles.
Our forwards and mids seem to have forgoten how to put the ball in the back of the OTHER teams net.
So the one match where we really really REALLY need Shay Given (which is most days but we really really need him now, we just take him for granted the other days) he’s out..there’s a wake up call for ya.
Owen was so close to being back for today and what a groin strain..only in Newcastle. Only in Newcastle would that happen. Out all season after a horrific injury, days away from comming back and then..a groin strain, only in Newcastle. No they don’t want to risk him.
Duff just when he’s finding his form..out for the rest of the season, Scotty Parker..out. Dyer, barely fit, I don’t know. Oh and the list goes on. Things just keep getting better and better.
