Your Shout: Newcastle Utd 0-0 Chelsea - Have Your Say

Posted in:

Kieron Dyer, Joe Cole and Andrew Carroll went closest, but all were unable to break the deadlock in an entertaining game against the Premiership champions that meant that Newcastle remain unbeaten at home against the top four this season.

Impressive display, but how do you think things went? Taylor, Carroll and Bramble won plaudits, but who else did well? Who didn’t? Have your say…

  1. The team did well, considering they didn’t just sit back and be negative. I was impressed with the team, but not entirely surprised as we have done well against Chelsea and the other top four teams. Still no goals at home which is worrying. one decent game doesn’t stop GR needing to go at the end of the season. Its got to be a clean break and a big thanks to GR, but unfortunately he isn’t going to take us forward and I’m sure in his heart he knows this too.
I was impressed with Emre, he seems that he wants to play for the club now. Why can’t Bramble always do this? He still has to go because of the liability factor at this level.

  2. Well done to Emre & Taylor who both put 100% in. We have three games left so why not start Carol up front to see what he can do at this level plus give some of the youngsters a run out & why not throw Luque into the mix even if its just too boost the miniscule fee we will get for him in the summer. I would like to see the following players leave in the summer
Carr,Babayaro,Bramble,Sibierski,Bernard(who?),Moore & Butt plus if we can get a good price for Duff why not get shut as his heart isnt in the club.(no chance of that as he is Roeders boy).

We need to build for next season and we should be looking to bring in players who have something to prove. I would look at Baines,Nugent,Barton,Woodgate,Young. These guys are hungry and wouldnt cost the earth.

I hope Roeder will have the balls to clear the decks but I wont hold my breath. Anyone who thinks Shepherd will get shut of Roeder before next season is seriously deluded

  4. The defense was (and I can’t believe I’m saying this, even though in fairness they do tend to pull it out against the top clubs) outstanding, Bramble like..what..where like, where the hell did that come from?? Why can’t he play like that all the time. Taylor and Emre were both outstanding aswell. Harper could of curled up in the corner and fell asleep, he’d litterally nothing to do except the odd one or two saves or scares. Really quite day for him.

Pity we didn’t score, we should of really, worrying that we’re not finding the back of the net, especially at home. Still though, that was a hell of a preformance especially from the defense. Oh and Siberski on Terry, what a laugh I’ve never seen Terry look so frustrated, well 90% of the time he’s cool and collected but like 99.9% of the time when that happens off a set piece Terry goes down and gets the penalty, just not this match. Siberski wasn’t even watching the ball he’d only eyes for Terry, no seriously though, he did a good job on him, the “penalty” meh, the ref mightn’t of seen it, fair enough..but not in the new footballing demorcacy, not with the new football rules, right Mourinhio. Whatever you say.

  6. I think if Bramble had a world class central defender like Woodgate next to him he would not panic and get out of position and make the costly errors. Confidence is a problem he seems to have. I’ve commented for a while that I think Taylor and Edgar would make a great future central partnership, the way they worked together marking Ronaldo really impressed me. Well done to the lads for their commitment against Chelsea !!

  7. Apologises for going on a tangent, but I’ve read David Edgar is expected to leave this summer. Surely not, he’s a good player - I rate him higher than Huntington. His performance when he came on at West Ham was great. Am I missing something here? I appreciate I’ve only seen him play a few times and the coaching staff see him every day but surely he’s worth keeping or loaning. Has anyone seen him in the reserves recently – was he any good? Cheers

Summer wish list for what it’s worth:

    Layton Baines
Glenn Johnson (I still think this lad has talent –he can cover for Nobby and then take over the season after next)
Jonathan Woodgate (I appreciate a popular but probably an unrealistic target. Will he leave Boro or won’t he, nobody knows. If I was him I’d go to a top 4 club)
Dean Ashton (he’s got to go somewhere when WH get relegated)
I’m happy for Steve Sidwell to arrive.
Another central defender? Still can’t believe we didn’t sign Sol. Is Curtis Davis actually any good?
Do you think Wes Brown would leave MU? I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to stay where he is.

  8. Edgar is in contract negotiations at the moment but he hasnt signed yet. If he does sign he will DEFINITELY be going out on loan next season. He scored for the reserves against Bolton the other night. I guess it happens in all clubs though if your face doesnt fit with the manager……….thats life, he will be great player though !!

  9. I change my mind a lot on who should leave SJP. It’s easy to feel that we should keep Bramble, for example, one week and then a week later he seems to be a liability again.
But it’s true what one fan wrote on here: that we could get very little by selling players, but then have to fork out a lot more buying new. A better investment with Bramble would maybe be to hire a personal defensive coach to sort him out!
I WOULD sell Carr and Luque though, the latter because it’s just not going to work out unless we suddenly find ourselves with a manager who can get the best out of him. Surely we’d have to get at least 3.5M-4M for Luque though.

So, personally I’d only let Carr, Luque, Gooch and probably Moore go. And bring in 1) a classy lb 2) top versatile defender and 3) mf. Perhaps add SWP but probably only if Dyer left.

If we can bring Carrol on some more (I’d start him against Reading with Martin; Owen and Amoebi on the bench for now) then we might not need to buy a striker. Crouch would be a terrific buy but not feasible and it would blow most of a budget that needs to be spent on the two quality defenders.

Offer 1 year contracts to Solano and Sib.

Then we need to find the fluency and movement that we had in the best of times, and briefly showed in GR’s very first match when he took over as caretaker. We’ve been too predictable this season, as well as lacking any spark/inspiration for many games.
