Your Shout: Newcastle Utd 0-0 Arsenal - Have Your Say

Posted in:

A second scoreless draw in Newcastle’s last three home fixtures saw the points shared on a sunny afternoon. The highlight of the game was perhaps a fantastic double save on the line by Nolberto Solano, and a cross-cum-shot from the sidelines by an impressive James Milner.

Arguably an entertaining goalless game, but how did the individuals do? How did Butt and Emre do together? What did you make of Glenn’s substitutions? How is Obafemi Martins getting along with his first season in English football almost up? Have your say!

  2. Game was boring as hell, emre is garbage, milner, nobby, talyor, carr and onyewu were ok. duff is a waste of space, dyer is knackered, end of season rubbish. at least we wont get relegated ……

  3. defiteneitely can be much better. still lack of team work and motivation. instead we should have won with the squad we ave now

Comment by Toonfan of the fans April 9, 2007 @ 4:48 pm

  4. I thought Gooch was our strongest player. I don’t think he got a thing wrong, and came closest to scoring of anyone.

    Comment by EWA April 9, 2007 @ 4:50 pm

  5. Frankly I think the game exposed a lack of ambition on Roeder’s part. Arsenal were short on confidence and pretty much there for the taking - most of the youngsters Wenger is playing are either not good enough yet or overrated (Diaby anyone? Alliadiere?). Even under Souness we always seemed to do OK against a far better Arsenal side than this - getting amongst them and being really aggressive - a tactic which usually produced fiery, exciting encounters. Yet Roeder, especially in switching to his favourite five man midfield, showed them far too much respect. Why not give Carroll a chance to support Martin’s up front - Arsenal are happy to show confidence in their young players, why aren’t we? Perhaps Roeder didn’t want to upset his idol Wenger.
A draw might look OK but we should have used this opportunity to catch up on points hopelessly dropped earlier in the season. Three home games without scoring is worrying, whoever you are playing.

  6. ROEDER OUT!

  7. Not bad. Kinda boring like. IN bad news..Dyer and Given both limped off..oh the joy!!!! Lets hope they’re not gone for long. Solano was class there at the end on the line saved us the game..ya that was probally the highlight of it. Milner was unlucky not to score. Worrying to see Shay Given limp off AGAIN, God he’s had a bad season injury wise. Harper, you wouldn’t of even realised he was there, nothing much to do.
Over all it was an all right game, we were unlucky not to go away with the 3 points but so were Arsenal, pretty even I suppose like. 1 points probally fair. Atleast we didn’t loose.

  8. If anybody writes in and says “good performance, so and so played well” I’ll explode. Turdig dross from both teams that wasn’t worth the peanuts never mind the gate money. GR will no doubt come out with his meaningless platitudes about his wonderful players (even though he says only three are his). As ever, I despair. The thought of that man still in charge next season - words fail me!

  9. Not a very good result in my opinion, i havnt seen arsenal that poor in years, and for the players and fans to be happy with that result and that kinda of performance is a absolute discrace and just shows how low down we have fallen over the years, Arsenal were absoltutly terrible and we should have crushed them, but we were hopeless and lacked shots and creativity yet again.

A point is ok against arsenal usualy, but on a day like today ther was no excuse not to win, they were missing Henry and had absoltly nothing apart from gallas and fabregas who both played crap who were any good, disapointed that fans, players and the manager thinks this was a good result and something needs to change, if we want to be anything more than another Leeds United.

  10. EWA, how cn gooch be the the strongest player wen his backpass to given nearly let adebayor in on goal, nd milner hit the bar, so he must of been closest to scorin

  11. If some fans dont start getting behind roeder then it will be the same as souness era’s. We aint gonna get know where if we keep changing managers so I dont see no harm with sticking with roeder for sometime, i definetly feel he speaks sense and thinks sense, but i also feel hes still learning as a manager and getting better at one.

As much as arsenal havent been at there best I cant really say of recent newcastle have been at their best, both teams also missing decent players didnt help. But defensively we were ok today, better than we have done sometimes. I also thought we played better with just butt, and not both butt and parker. Duff sometimes over played with the ball and lost it too many times but had a few decent chances. A win against portsmouth is probably needed if europe is on the cards.

  12. does anyone really think roeders the one to take us forward, personaly i think hes took us as far as he can, we played better in midfield with emre and butt but he played them because of parkers injury, im frightened of him getting money in the summer then realising at xmas were going nowhere again, remember hes had two windows and done nothing, bringing no left back in was a joke, and what if martins got injured what then?????? plese leave your views.

    Comment by dopaz April 10, 2007 @ 9:20 am

  13. Roeder must go!! Martins a joke no ball control, Why 2 centre halfs on the bench! Bramble?? couldnt get a game for Hartlepool Utd. Need a stronger manager with brighter ideas, every corner, free kick, throw in same week in week out. Also would rather have Graham Gooch centre half than the clueless American St Liege dont even want to keep!!!!

  14. On paper before the match Id have thought a draw would have been a good result against Arsenal, but that was’nt the Arsenal we’re all used to. Both teams were pretty devoid of ideas for the majority of the match and it seemed like a game filled with good defending and inept attacking. First half Milner and Solano worked well down the right but the second half that subsided a bit. Martins didnt have his best of days and the balance again didnt seem right. It pissed me right off when Carr misplaced a pass to duff and he seemed to find the funny side of it. Fair enough if we had’ve been ahead and playing well, but we werent. In the past Ive thought that Carr was shit, but that he did at least try. That ended that thinking for me. Overall, mediocre.

  15. ROEDER HAS NO IDEA, SHEPHERD IS A JOKE HE SAID HE WAS FANS CHOICE WHEN CLEARLY HE WASNT BUT WAS AN EASY OPTION.IT GETTING NEAR SEASON TICKET RENEWAL TIME SO THERE WILL BE THE USUAL RUBBISH IN THE EVENING CHRONICLE ABOUT WHO WE WILL SIGN, THINK SHEPHERD WILL GET A REAL SHOCK WITH SEAON TICKET RENEWALS FANS ARE SICK AND TIRED OF THE DROSS ON AND OFF THE PITCH!! PROBS SIGN ANOTHER 4 STRIKERS IN THE TRANSFER WINDOW AND NO CENTRE HALF OR FULL BACKS AS SHEPHERD KEEPS SAYING THE GEORDIES LOVE A CENTRE FORWARD THE MANS AN IDIOT BACKED BY ROEDER THE YES MAN !!!!!

  16. what a load of twats.

roeder isnt great. but he is good. how many ‘great’ managers are there, and how many could we realistically get??

martins has hardly scored, is sluggish and is weak. no, hold on, he is well on his way to 20, fast as your mam when i call and strong as an ox.

that gary lineker bloke must have been crap too i guess.

    twats.

  17. ino dont “dis” martins he has done brilliant for his first season in the premiership.

    +-+ Forgeiner.
+-+ Played Like no more than 10 games in a season in his career.
    +-+ FIRST premiership season
    +-+ Is only 21.
+-+ Playing in a shit team who bum rhape long balls even tho he is tiny.
+-+ played alot of the season up front on his own, which i dont recal shearer scoring loads when he played on his own up front.
+-+ has had very little creative support from his teammates, apart from hit and hope pass’s

all of these factors i could name more, and hes almost bagged 20 goals in his first season you are a absolute discrace if you think martins is bad player or has had a bad season, your wanting to much to soon and your the reason Luque has given up trying for this club.

Martins is only young and has tons to learn, treat him like taylor or milner not, like a mature player [ owen ] who MUST produce the goods every single game please, otherwise you’l fuck him up before his career has began.

    Comment by DODDS April 10, 2007 @ 4:50 pm

  18. I agree with Dodds. Martins has done great, playing in a team that is simply not living up to its potential.
    The End.

    Comment by ChrisL April 10, 2007 @ 9:48 pm

  19. Martins has been very good. How many goals this season? EIGHTEEN GOALS.

Eleven in the league-THERE ARE ONLY FIVE PLAYERS WITH MORE. They are: Drogba, Ronaldo, McCarthy, Rooney and Yakubu-and three with whom he’s tied. That with shite from the midfield. Without Martins, we’re scoring fuck all aside from fecking SIBIERSKI, with 8 goals this season. Okay, only three in the league, but I think Sibierski’s been very good for us-holding things up and working with Martins.

Emre’s just coming back and is more creative than Parker. I think Duff’s finally starting to provide something, though he’s not been all I’d hoped for. Hopefully next season he’ll be better.

    Best Lineup?

    Shola/Sibierski and Martins/Owens up top.

Can Martins/Owens work together? Dunno. Probably, but is the conventional wisdom to play a bigger 2nd striker off a smaller player? If so, Shola and Owens may work better? Not sure.

Maybe Duff/N’Zogbia, Emre, Butt/Parker, Milner works as the midfield.

We need a left back… Babayaro’s the best we’ve got, and that ain’t good. Centrally: Taylor Onyewu/Moore (let them compete) and on the right… Solano, probably. Carr looks shite of late.

Obviously Given in goal, though is it me or does he just hoof the ball long every single time it comes to him?

Crap… i’d really like to make UEFA next year…

Comment by Red Douche April 11, 2007 @ 3:32 am

  20. Feck. Make that SEVENTEEN goals.

    Yes, I am an eejit.

Comment by Red Douche April 11, 2007 @ 3:53 am

  21. Agreed Martins has done well and the potential is there to make him alot better.
However is ball control is diabolical at times, if i was roedor id put him agianst a brick wall and tell him to kick and control.

    Comment by Greg April 11, 2007 @ 4:26 am

  22. its getting rediculous now about alot of the impatient fans for newcastle. success takes time to build so if we want to win anything then we will have to be patient and continue supporting the team, and give it our all so that the players follow our example on the pitch.

martins has done great this season, not all players adapt straight away but hes done a great job, if he improves on from this season then he should be a great partner for owen.

if the defence is given a make over like it should have been 2 years ago, but roeder had to see which ones he should get rid off then there should be no reason for poor league finishes.

just remember not to get carried away and expect to win the fa cup or carling cup every year, even arsenal havent won anything this year and they had loads of injuries like we did.

    Comment by martin April 11, 2007 @ 4:34 am

  23. I agree with Dodds. Martins has done great, james milner also good player. Newcastle have inexperience player, and i think need someone that can distribute ball, a good midfielder. and solid defence.
i’ll advised roeder, to buy a solid midfielder and defence in the next season

    Comment by shola April 11, 2007 @ 1:02 pm

  24. Nobody can argue with Martins contribution this season. Tell me where is there a striker, with his age, pace, heading ability, right and left footed in equal measure, ability to play upfront alone. I can think of only Drogba in the premiership.
He is a fantastic player!! I don’t think its a case of asking “can him and Owen play together” - No they can’t as long as we play crap long balls as we have been doing. If we play direct, building up football and utilise the pace of DYer and use Solano’s vision we will open up teams with Owen and Martins. We have to play to their strengths when we have two brilliant strikers. I will give up my season ticket once I see long hopeful balls hoofed up to these two. What a waste it would be!!
    Next season……………
    -Given
    -Solano
    -Moore
    -Taylor
    -Duff
    -Milner
    -Parker
    -Dyer
    -Nzogbia
    -Owen
    -Martins
