Four points from six over the Easter didn’t really satiate the majority of SJP and Roeder’s position at the helm of Newcastle’s foundering ship remains fragile. Talk of Sven Goran Eriksson being the leading man to replace him personally frightens me. Admittedly, that is largely influenced by his England side’s lack of vim, creativity or flamboyance. It would be replacing like with a far more expensive like. The possibility of one day dislodging him as manager would also be dear indeed.
In being balanced, it must be said that as a club manager his teams flourished, and not unspectacularly either. The Newcastle job isn’t especially attractive at the minute, but if stereotype and rumour are to be believed, if any unemployed manager is susceptible to Freddy’s money, it has to be old Sven.
Now then, what’s Mr. Jürgen Klinsmann up to these days…
…what? Too soon?
Game 32: Sheffield Utd (a)
Goal 41: Christian Nade
Blame: Steven Taylor
Reason: A funny one, if you like things that aren’t tremendousy funny. An distrustful Taylor wondered over to supervise and assist his fellow defenders stifle the Blades attackers, leaving his own marker unattended. The Newcastle defenders did a sterling an perhaps unexpected job, stymying the ball not 6 yards out from the goal line as the ball was whipped in. Of course, the ball fell to the unattended marker. D’oh! You can’t blame Taylor for not trusting his colleagues, but… we do. He made amends and scored the winner though, so huzzah for the young centre-back.

Bit off the track but on the Sven rumors:
He was limited by the pool of players he had to choose from with England, and did the best he could really. At club level he is amazing, Siere A titles, Euro club titles, Portugese titles….
I think if he was given total control of player recruitment and back room staff and structure (and my god, thats a big “if” with Fat Fred in charge), we’d be on the edge of the top 4 within 2 years.
Sven? I’m all for it

Sven isn’t the man - the fans will never take to him.
Also, by ‘complete control’ I assume you mean spending £100m a season like he did at Lazio, who were then… bankrupt.

Hang on - on the edge of top 4 within 2 years.
I seem to remember we got rid of a Manager who did this for us a few years ago.
The talk then was about how he was too old and did not have the backing of the dressing room and that he could not achieve European Championship qualification.
The same Boardroom are in charge - as then - and it is they who should shoulder the responsibility for the position the club are now in.

No Michael, by “complete control” I mean that he would be allowed to choose who is signed within his given budget. Not the current situation where by Fat Fred is allowed to pick and choose who arrives for reasons of selling numbered shirts!
