Your Shout: Newcastle 0-2 Blackburn Rovers - Have Your Say
By Matthew Lishman On Sat 5 May 2007 |
Might this be the final nail in Glenn Roeder’s managerial coffin? Having pitifully lost to Blackburn at home, we clocked up our 17th defeat of the season - a Premier League record for our club. If we do not win at Watford, then we will accomplish our worst ever points tally for a season in the top flight.
In a game where we were utterly outplayed and completely toothless, but for the sparky vengeance of the returning Michael Owen, Blackburn made sure that the Magpies’ new kit looked less than shiny.
What would you like to see happen now? Shepherd sack him tonight? Or should we wait until the end of the season - or even keep him? Have your say…

Chris Barnes If you’re not quite sure why everybody hates the fatman so much maybe this will give you an idea:

Just heard the good news about Glenda. He shouldn’t have had the job in the first place. If we consider ourselves to be a top club whats wrong with trying to get a hold of Hiddink. He’s top quality and should have been approached even before the Sourpuss saga.As a domestic option forget Sam and consider Mark Hughes?

the following would be good choices, what do you all think? some might be better than allardyce,
harry redknapp
sam allardyce
steve coppell
im gonna regret saying this but sven goranericsson
neil warnock (perhaps)?
alan pardew
jose mourinho (if he gets chucked out at chelsea)
alan shearer!!!
obviouzsly theres others but I dont think oneill, moyes and curbs are gonna leave. perhaps shearers one for the future, but I still think all these would be better than roeder, if not necessarily worth appointing

get glenn out asap !! our team needs a new manager . i think glenn had one whole season and proved he could handle a team like newcastle.
i believe most fans agree thatgoing down at home against blackburn was humiliating . a changeis neeed fast

If we appoint a new manager soon and end up 13th or 14th at this stage next season, well I think we can be more patient and sympathetic than we are being with GR.
A new manager DOES deserve time to get things right.
The problem with GR - even though I like some of the things he says and does - is that you can’t ever see him as having the personality, charisma and deeper tactical know-how to be a major success. Many managers struggled in the early part of their careers at respective clubs - Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby to name two (Robson at Ipswich) - BUT with them their clubs knew that eventually they had what it took to succeed.
So, though I want GR to be a success in whatever he does, we would probably be wrong to give him more time.
I’d like to see him return to Youth Academy Manager. Hell, he’ll still be rich and can say he’s managed at the Toon - even if it didn’t work out……….

o yeah and nzogbia and carroll are for keeps as well. i know a lot will disagree with me with some of my choices, but with a decent manager I reckon these players can take off.

im a newcastle fan living in the south of england, so im not qquite sure why everyone hates shepherd (apart from the milner/ viduka thing, and several crap managers- which i suppose is probably enough but at least he gives us money) I have seen 4 games this season- away to fulham, tottenham, chelsea, west ham. we need to play like we did at tottenham and west ham and to an extent defesively like we did at chelsea, whereas at fulham we were completely outclassed!!
Roeder cant be consistent- too many bad performances. I hate to see it but I think we will lose to watford, and that will kill off roeder.
martins and duff were good buys, and i say keep those, dyer, milner, martins, ameobi, given, harper, owen, taylor but get rid of the rest
im afraid if shepherd gives him too much money, he will waste it on rubbish, which is why we need someone like sam allardyce.
we are an attacking team but this season we have been goalshy. next season with allardyce we could be in the uefa cup easily, perhaps even top 4.

desperation comments from GR today, very sad to see a very desperate man. FS should put him out of his misery now the number of fans not renewing their season tickets will push FS over the edge “the great man will not like it” that will be the trigger in reality he knows that now. As I’ve said before is Big Sam the man the jury is out, dont know how many times ive trekked to the Reebok coming away thinking I wouldnt like to watch Bolton every week. On the other hand I think he is the one to effect a massive clear out and you wouldnt like to face him if u were playing crap, however those were supposedly Souness traits. My view still is go for somebody European Van Gaal would have been the man but we cant get him, lets get Houllier he’ll sort us out tactically he’s done a fab job with Lyon.

I believe that Yesterday will be the last time we see Roeder at St James Park. I also think we should take on Sam Allerdyce… OK, I don’t think he plays the most attractive football, I don’t know how above board he is. What I do know is that he has built Bolton into a consistant top 8 club, which is way above what we are at the moment. Talk of Mourinho, Hitzfeld, Rjkaard is brinking on delusional. Steve Bruce turned us down for Gods sake!
I have no doubt that one Day shearer will be our manager but please not yet.
This season began with us “investing in youth” whilst at the same time we were trying to flog James Milner (player of the season by a country mile) to fund mark viduka?! this alone made me question Roeders so called intelligence. Next he dithers and dallies about Woodgate and campbell decides against it, two more poor decisions. Then we get the old Souness injury excuses, Well mr Roeder thats all well and good, but the fact that our best results came when the injuries were at their worst suggests the problem lies with your team selection and tactical awareness.
Finally we end the season with Roeder saying we need to bring in some experience and older heads, utterly laughable.
Given
Milner
Solano
Taylor
Owen
can stay
Martins and Parker need to learn to play in a team
the rest can go. Cheers to sibierski for his effort and commitment but I feel we have to move on still

roeder is bloody clueless. i would love to know what opposition managers are thinking of our tactics during a game. he doesnt know when to sub, if ever. he doesnt know how to buy players (exc martins), he doesnt know how to motivate the players, he does make excuses even when he SAYS hes not. WHAT THE FUCK IS HE GOOD FOR. ok he did do well when he was caretaker, well done. now piss off. get in luis van gaal from az alkmaar who taught roeder when we lost to them in uefa cup. i hope we dont waste this money all the clubs are getting from tv. if we buy shite players im gona check myself into a mental hospital. coz i think im goin mad
F.U.C.K O.F.F roeder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, I secretly hoped he had a wildcard somewhere and that he’d eventually reveal it and blow us away. That’s the only explaination I can think of as to why he still works here. I was all for giving Mssr. Roeder the benefit of the doubt, but now I’m really reaching. I’ve played better games on my own than our whole squad put together yesterday (Mssr. Harper aside. He’s class, says I. Makes the odd awful mistake, but he’s no Barthez, that’s for sure.) and I’m just a skinny, out of shape nineteen year old!

Roeder done well to get us away from the drop and into 7th but this season Roeder has lost the plot.Owen is not going to save us all by himself,Parker needs to get back to his best for next season or loss the armband.
BIG SAM HELP US PLEASE

My god how we have fallen. Forget about KK, just go back to Bobby Robson. Top four finishes competing for the champions league. We replace a legend with, first, a clueless neanderthal and, next, a clueless vegetable. My fear with Roeder is that if he stays, no player of talent and quality will want to come to NUFC unless we throw mountains of money at him. For that reason alone Roeder has to go. Aside from his record, consider his treatment of players. The Milner fiasco for fatboy Viduka. Refusal to consider Sol Campbell when he knew the defense was sh*te. Parking Luque for eternity, he may be sh*te but play him once for godsake. Ultimately, the real source of our troubles is Fat Fred and the Halls. But as others have stated, we are stuck with them for better or worse. Please let the next manager understand two things (1) beautiful football and (2) winning. Nothing else matters.
PS>> its 85 degrees and all the chicks are in bikinis…..I’ll have a pint for the rest of you…

After getting back from a day out somewhere, and hearing the Toon result earlier, I’m a little surprised on returning home not to read that GR has been sacked. We have to do this. He’s a very nice and intelligent guy, as to some extent Souness was, but GR should only ever have been employed as caretaker manager.
I think maybe Shepherd is tired of firing and hiring managers? But he owes it to fans to try again, start afresh but make the right decision. I hope whoever is in charge keeps most of our mf and strikers though because I believe there is real talent in our squad, that just needs the right motivator. And, of course, someone who immediately acts on buying a good defence.

1st things first…
RICH - please learn to type in english
Matt - Shearer… i’ll get to him in a bit
GeordieMark - “my tip is Mourinho” ??? i’ve got mor of a chance than that egotisical twat!
I do feel for Roeder; he never wanted the job initially, and following our good finish to last season felt he could do a job at nufc and whi could blame him for trying?
well, it hasn’t worked out and yes he should probably go. b ut Shearer? Footballer, yes, fantastic; but am i the only person who thinks that he is/was/still is the biggest trouble maker in NUFC today (fat fred excepted) You dont see Gerrards bar at anfield (fine when they have retired); you dont drink at the Giggs wine bar at old trafford do you?
The future… Allardyce? i’d rather have my aunt betty be in charge based on the style of football played at the reebok but… if he does come ill back him 100% just like i did with gullit, souness, dalgleish etc etc etc.
(please dont bring in shearer, a new entrance will have to be built just to it his head through)

If Sven can win the double with Lazio, he can win us a trophy.
His record in several different leagues with several clubs (plus his very impressive win ratio with England) says it all. Besides, I don’t want Big Sam or his crap style of football anywhere near this club. I’ve got time for Roeder, he’s a great coach with some good ideas but sadly he’s not a manager. I’m a little surprised Sven isn’t more of a popular choice, just look at what he’s achieved.

Another Shambles today no organisation no fighting spirit, as I’ve said for months the club is rotten to the core, Roeder being one of the many bad apples in the barrel. I repeat again no other premiership club would have given him a managers job with his track record. Giving dyer the captaincy at Reading was an insult to us all, dyer should be shipped out along with Bramble, carr, moore, butt, shola,………yes Shola he’s not the saviour GR seems to think he is, I could list more but quite frankly we all know who they are.
Is Allardyce the man for the job, trouble is with us Toon fans we are reactionary, we’ve appointed far to many managers in haste, dont let Freddie appoint the next manager, lets take a step back and think carefully consider going European, for me Houllier would organise us just as well as Sam, NUFC.COM have ran a good piece on Allardyce today I suggest people read it, it is spot on, as for GR he must go now….as for me I’m of to Watford for more misery.

PS - If it is to be Big Sam who comes in however, I will back him as I did Roeder, and I will be willing him to succeed.
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
To begin with, Roeder was never the right man. He was given the job purely because of the momentum he carried as caretaker. The players were lifted as Souness was gone, and they wanted to send Shearer out on a high (good run to end the season). Roeder was the cheap, easy option and Shepherd settled for him. When he sacked Souness he said the next man will be the man to take us forward over the next few years - how could Roeder be that man when:
a) - he has never been successful as a manager/coach
b) - he is offered a 2 year deal
Roeder is a coach, not a manager. He has no clue about tactics. He stands on the touchline with his arms folded, and Terry Mac to his side making notes. He never knows when to make a substitution or who to bring on/bring off. One time I witnessed him call N’Zogbia (i think it was him) back from warming up ready to come on. He stood on the touchline, then told him to stand back, and then waited 15minutes to bring him on. He dropped Milner against Man City last month, and despite the cries from the crowd, waited until 76th minute to bring him on - only to bring Solano off.
As for the calls for Big Sam - Dear God no! His long ball style of play is NOT what we need. Dalglish, Souness & Roeder have all been defensive minded and ruined our style of play - dont let Sam Allardyce do it. In all fairness he does get the best out of ageing players, but he brings little British talent through and we have a fantastic academy of potential. Also, we sacked Kevin Bond for a brief appearance in the Panorama bung investigation - wouldnt it be ironic to appoint Sam Allardyce who was actually the main target of that programme?
I can’t honestly see who would want to manage Newcastle, and Im not sure who should come in, but both Roeder and Allardyce are not right for this club.
If Shepherd is to bring a new manager it has to be as soon as this season ends so they have a full pre season and can set out THEIR OWN transfer targets. If Roeder remains, he better get some common sense and bring in the players the fans want (and get rid of those we dont).
I only hope that whoever is in charge next season, gives this club a kick up the backside what it needs. If it IS Roeder, then he better make a change.
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
please keep roeder
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
If he stays, then we’re going down next season. He no longer has injuries to blame, so he turns his attention to a lack of goals scored. How can this be? 27 million’s worth of striking talent and we still can’t beat an average team at home!! (No disrespect meant to Blackburn as they’re clearly better that us with a real manager in place)
The players must accept some responsibility, of that I am certain. However, how can you get the best out of them if there are no tactics as such? The result is a bunch of headless chickens, each and every one of them wandering aimlessly around the pitch. Make no mistake…this is the fault of the manager who at the fourth time of asking has proved that he’s completely clueless. Must we be the fourth club that Roeder takes down? Glenn, do the decent thing, accept that you’re poo at this job and fall on your sword before Biffa Bacon makes the decision for you.
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
But RICH, what do you really think? :-)
Roeder is toast after this abysmal run-in. I’m reasonably happy with Big Sam looking like the front runner and I have heard him say he prefers a more passing game than the long ball shit they do at Bolton but because of the players he had that’s what worked.
I’d love to see Jose take the job; let’s see how bloody special he really is by taking the Toon back to the Champions League! It’s one thing to have success when you’ve got a russian mobster billionaire (allegedly….ahem….) but if he really wants a challenge let’s see him at St. James’!
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
Much as i regard Roeder as a decent man, he is sounding more and more like Souness. He is starting to blame injuries for for his inept performance, ala Souness. Souness destroyed the club, Roeder has been unable to turn things around. We need a strong man at the helm. Although i would not pick Big Sam, i fail to see who else we will attract. Hitzfield was the man after Souness.
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
I know this may sound wrong but i hope we lose to watford next week so then that’ll surely get roeder the sack if he hasnt earned it already. As for his replacement, it seems the only manager thats proven in the premiership thats available is Big Sam. I know he may play boring long-ball football but tbh anything must be better then what we are playing at the moment, it’s just a disgrace. Atleast Sam will kick the underachievers up the backside and hopefully next season we can finish atleast in the top half of the table. Atleast there was one positive from today though, we wont be seeign Bramble in a black and white shirt at St.James park again. (Unless he somehow signs for Juventus to join Boumsong and we somehow play them ;P )
Sent in on: May 5th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
Don’t think Roeder will be there next season. If he is, very few fans will renew their season tickets.
It’s not going to be easy to get rid of FS - the ball is in his court at the moment. He’ll never get over £100m for that load of sh*te.
Our home form has been so poor this season - dalglish, gullet, robson’s reign saw us do better at home than that !
I just hope big Sam doesnt take over in the summer - his long ball style of play will get us nowhere. My tip is Mourinho - he can bring in a new group of coaches/assistant manager.
I think that newcastle need to get taken over by a large company and that would be our starting point. Until then we are going to struggle.
Sorry, to spill out all of this stuff, I’m just frustrated like every other geordie fan.

Glenn, you’ve had your chance and you blew it.
Save for a left winger and natural full backs you had a strong tem out there today and look what happened?!
My season ticket seat was empty today -I’m sad to admit that I knew it would be a 600 mile roundtrip (London Mag) with ZERO reward and stayed the em.
We need someone with grit, determination, focus and charisma and Glenn (sadly) has none of these.
The Mackem’s must be pissin’ their pants - Keane would eat Roeder for breakfast.
For me, it has to be Allardyce, he may not be squeaky clean but he sets his teams out not to be beaten and works with the funds that he has. If he could develop a tight back four he’d have the likes of Owen, Oba & Milner to build around. He can spot a decent player in terms of temprament and skill (Diouf accepted) and with some funds could genuinely do something.
Call time on Bramble, Carr, Babayaro, even Dyer (7 years still a bit-part player) Parker (with his ‘row z’ 40 yarders) and Emre (who can’t even clear the first defender from a dead ball).
Fat Fred is a reality at SJP and until the geordie Abramovich lands we’re stuck with him - like it or not. The same isn’t true for Roeder though - put him out of his misery.
Decent guy, decent service as a player but just not up to it as Manager.
ACT NOW FREDDY - PLEASE.

If Roeder is not sacked at the end or before the end of the season then I’m sure I and many other Newcastle United fans will be extremely upset. If it is not him that is making us perform so badly then what the hell is it. Why have we not scored in 5 home games, even with the returns of Owen parker and butt it makes us no better. We are the laughing stock of every other Premier League club, I’m sure even Watford fans have a right to laugh at us right now. The sooner we get Big Sam in the better, Roeder got the job by pure fluke the only reason why we performed well at the end of last season was becuase of the shearer factor and now he’s gone we desperetely need him back in some capacity, we need him around the club, maybe assistant to big sam. Roeder can’t complain about injuries depleting his side, why is a midfield consisting of 3 england internationals and an under 21 international wih £27m worth of international striker unable to score against the likes of blackburn. we could have lost by about 3-4 today by all accounts. I can’t believe what has happened to my beloved club, only a few years ago we were in the champions league. I remember in about 98, before bobby came every was saying to me that we were a mid table club but i didn’t believe them and new that we were better than that becuase of our big reputation and what happened under keegan. But now it really really hurts to come to the conclusion that maybe we are now just another mid table mediocre club with the city’s charlton’s and fulham’s of this world.
