  • Mexicola writes in saying:

Seems to me that Roedar was never more than a stop-gap. If the rumours are true then Freddy has been in for Alladyce at least once, if not twice in the past. Yes, Roedar is a decent bloke, and yes I do feel sorry for him in as much as the injury list he had was horrendous. However, I’m afraid his tactical decisions were strange at best and more importantly he never seemed to carry the confidence you need at this level. Watching his press conferences were like watching a rabbit in the headlights. If that was how he took team talks or training then I’m not surprised the players looked clueless on the pitch. Nothing personal - I wish him all the best and he DID guide us out of trouble after Souness - but this day has been coming for some time.

As for Shephard, what can you say? The man is a laughing stock. He blunders from one PR disaster to the next. But (and I hate saying this because I can’t stand the bloke) time and time again he finds cash under the sofa to spend. OK, you can question how it’s been used (£9M on Luque, £9.5M on Robert, or going further back £6M on the likes of Marcelino, etc) but he keeps coming through with cash. On a wider issue you have to wonder about why the recent takeover talks remained just that…..talk. Freddy getting greedy in the negociations I wonder? We’ll never know of course. But if Freddy went tomorrow, who could realistically fill that void? Where would the cash we BADLY need to re-vamp the back four, etc come from? It’s not good enough to simply shout “Freddy Out” and hope someone will jump into the hot-seat. It’ll take alot more than that if we’re going to turn things around.

As to the current management situation, I’ve got mixed views. Alladyce seems to be able to organise a team properly, and we need that more than anything right now. He also seems to have the ability to get average players to play considerably above themselves, and let’s be honest, we have some pretty average players at the moment. I can’t see him trying 33 different back four combinations for example. Now, he might not play KK-esque free flowing football, but right now I’d take WINNING football and worry about finding the next Ginola or Tino later, because make no mistake if things carry on the way they have for the past 3+ years, there is only one place we are heading and it isn’t Europe….

One last thought to leave you all with (and sorry, it’s not a happy one). I’m looking down the road to the “other” team, the team-that-dare-not-speak-its-name and I’m seeing the effects of getting a manager in who can motivate and organise a team of AVERAGE players. It’s amazing how a little planning, preparation and bloody-minded effort can turn a side of no-hope losers into a side of winners (ok, in the Championship I know, but still). If Quinn finds Keane cash in the Summer and we carry on blundering on in the dark, I really, really worry for us next year.

Let’s all hope we get the right man this time.

  • HongKong Pete writes in saying:

Roeder is indeed a decent man (so what), although he does appear to be backtracking a lot recently, injuries and getting in older role models, which has lost my respect. The fact is a football club and team needs a strong leader as a manager, someone who inspires the players and has their respect and gets them motivated. Look at the great managers Shanks, Reevie, Clough, Mourino, Wenger they are/were all huge personalities with passion running through their veins. Roeder simply doesn’t have that. The likes of Roeder, Sven, Mclaren are similar types and are simply not suited to the demands of managing an English team.

As for Shepard, how anyone can have anything but comtempt for the man is beyond me, he made his thougths clear a long time ago and no one shoudl ever forget that.

  • G writes in saying:

I must say this, I’m sorry Glenn has gone, I agree with a lot of whats been said above, but I believe in his policy of bringing on the youth. I worked for Fergie at Manyoo in the long term. I also feel we owe him for bailing us out of the Souness fiasco. We as fans seem to have short memories, but I cant help but feel a little sad to see Roeder go, I certainly would like to see his involvement with the club continue in some capacity, maybe back at the acadamy, or even in some kind of ambasadorial role, however, I suspect most of the new breed who write on the page, those who dont even know who managed the toon before KK will say I’m talking sh**, but I have a longer memory than them, I still remember the old 2nd division and where we were heading rather well. If we don’t appoint sombody with the nounce of Roeder to build up from the youth level, we will never realise our dreams as fans. As for the pricks on the video above…. remember this then we get relegated as no decent manager will want this job… tossers!

It upsets me to see such a decent man fail. It was nice to see someone who was truly proud to be Newcastle manager and know how big a job it is. Glenn, you helped us stabalise after the previous regime and its a shame you may not be the one to take us to the top.Good luck for the future, be it here or else where, you deserve success, and i hope you’ll find it.Thanks

  • Nick writes in saying:

The mess this club is in all started with Fat fred going public that Robson was going at the end of the season. Que down tools for the players in the same way Manure did when they thought Fergie was retiring. 4 games later Robson is sacked without the aforementioned Fred even giving a thought to who would replace him. We end up lumbered with Freds choice of Sourness. We end up giving away quality players for peanuts because he had a mandate to ’sort out the dressing room’ and hence no funds to replace quality players. Souness fails spectacularly and all we can afford to replace is Roeder. With the support he has been given Roeder hasn’t done too bad a job. Unfortunatley you can only do as well as your boss allows and with a muppet like Fred above we are shagged as a club! Why do you think Wenger achieved so much at Arsenal and is now worried that David Dein has gone.
For all those who think Freddy his doing a good job can I ask you one question. . . . . who’s money do you think he is spending whilst he lines his own pockets with share dividends and bonuses?

  • Benjamin writes in saying:

Basically we’re a year on and people want to change the manager. Again. This will get us nowhere, but on the plus side it will get us there fast!!

Shepherd played his part in the good times of the past, but that was long ago and he has made a serious of mistakes since then.

The way he sacked SBR, whether the time was up on his tenure or not, he should not have let the whole summer pas then sack him as the season gets going. (4 games wasn’t it?!?)

Souness was a mistake in the first place. THEN letting him spend 50mil to try and save himself and not letting him finish the season he started.

You get nowhere changing managers all the time. A club must built, over time (even chelsea didn’t win the first yr they threw money at the team) and glenda MUST be given this summer to imprint on the squad. Three players is not enough. Let him clear out those he feels aren’t playing for him and get HIS players in. Then judge him properly, this time next season. Let him stay, and this time next yr we will still be in this division and will certainly be in the top half IF he gets half the backing the stupid scot got.

    Put it this way!

You see Roeder take drab, the team plays drab!

You think of past managers talking enthusiasticly and see the team play the same!

If he had a bit of life you might see it on the picth, but you just see shite!!!!

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors or on the training field, but if you look at our squad man for man we are as good as any top 5 side!

    13th place! Speaks for itself!

  • Mal writes in saying:

    Knee Jerks.

Success will take time. Roeder needs to be allowed to build his own team, get them playing together over the summer and then we can truly judge him next season.

I hope Mr. Shepherd doesn’t make a rash decision that will detrimentally affect the clubs future after seeing this.

We can’t sack the manager again and start building the team over again. The majority of the team is still Graeme Souness’s.

All glenn needs to do is replace Babs, Carr, Onyewu, Bramble with a quality back four and i’m sure we’ll be flying again.

Plus I’m sure we’ll spank Watford away next week.

“Roeder didn’t buy all of the players but his buys have been as bad as those of Souness. Roeder has had two transfer windows to bring HIS players in.”

What a load of something I do not want to mention here! I cant think of one bad transfer. Some might wanna call Duff a poor purchase but £5 mio for one of the best wingers in the league never ever comes near to that.

  • John - Wallsend writes in saying:

Divide it up however you qant but Shepherd still helped takeover the club. Shepherd was also definetly the Chairman when we beat Barca 3-2, was in charge when we finished in the top four and when we challenged for the title.

The only people to blame for the position the club finds itself in are the managers who wasted millions on players who weren’t good enough. It’s their fault that we have such a poor squad.

Keegan, Shearer and Wenger have SPECIFICALLY said they rate Roeder as a good manager. Keegan AND Shearer have BOTH said that Roeder IS the right man to manage Newcastle. What do you know about Roeder that they don’t?

Oh and, by the way, itt was a small demonstration by a tiny minority of fans!

John of wallsend, you are the only muppet mate, how on this planet you cannot see that Shepherd has destroyed this club!! For your little list “Without Shepherd there would’ve been:”

    No Takeover
    No Keegan
    No Entertainers
    No Shearer
    No Sir Les
    No Ginola
    No Champions League
    No 3-2 against Barcelona

I think Sir John Hall Might have something to say about this!!! KERMIT!!!!!

SHEPHERD OUT and take yer little yes man sidekick ROEDER with you!!!!

  • Me writes in saying:

John from Wallsend, it’s muppets like you who have got the club in this mess.

You credit Shepherd with everything that’s happened at the club. Do you not think that Sir John and his son might have played a bigger part in the club takeover? Shepherd was at best a bit part player in the early days. Freddy Fletcher is hte man behind bringing Keegan to the club, again, Shepherd played a bit part. The only one of those things that Shepherd has been a major player in is the transfer of Owen and look at how that’s turned out, £17 million plus wages for just over a dozen games, brilliant.

People like you are getting everything you deserve, you deluded fool.

Without Shepherd we wouldn’t have had Souness and without Shepherd we wouldn’t have Roeeder. Roeder didn’t buy all of the players but his buys have been as bad as those of Souness. Roeder has had two transfer windows to bring HIS players in.

John, you are wrong in so many respects.

Keegan wasn’t brought to the club by Shepherd. In fact, Keegan left only a few weeks after Shepherd’s appointment as chairman.

He did the exact opposite of what you say he did. He destroyed the Keegan regime, and with that, destroyed our chance of silverware.

And don’t even get me started on the rest of his tenure…

  • Tyneside Jack writes in saying:

Roeder did earn his job by at least temporarily sorting Souness’ mess.

But he’s clearly reached his Waterloo and must clear his desk. Those players are simply not playing for him.

  • John - Wallsend writes in saying:

I heard some people chanting and singing but I didn’t actually SEE a lot of them! Everyone I saw was just trying to get past or was standing looking!

What a bunch of muppets. I understand the frustration but directing it at Roeder and Sheherd is just ignorant. With out Shepherd there would’ve been:

    No Takeover
    No Keegan
    No Entertainers
    No Shearer
    No Sir Les
    No Ginola
    No Champions League
    No 3-2 against Barcelona
    No Owen

So Shepherd makes money out of Newcastle, so what?! He OWNS a large proportion of the club why shouldn’t he make money out of it? Are the Glazers etc just greedy bastards as well?

As for Roeder, if the last game of the season had been us beaing spurs or drawing with Man Utd or Chelsea would he still be getting idiots chanting stuff? Roeder is playing with a team that he didn’t buy and you idiots are blaming HIM for the performace?! Typical NO muppets.

No doubt this considerable display of discontent from the fans will be played down as a “small gathering” by The Chronicle…AKA Shepherd’s mouthpiece. Not forgetting the fact that this is the very paper that announced to the nation that Roeder was the fans’ choice…poo.
