Allardyce Sacked!
By Jonny Hall On Wed 9 Jan 2008 |
Newcastle United have this evening announced the sacking of manager Sam Allardyce.
The Official Site says that Newcastle parted with the former Bolton boss by “mutual consent”.
On the departure, Chairman Chris Mort told nufc.co.uk:
“Mike and I would like to place on record our thanks for Sam’s efforts and wish him well for the future.
“A new manager has not yet been appointed at Newcastle United. We will make a further announcement on the managerial position when appropriate.”
Allardyce added his own quotes, saying:
“I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle United but I wish the Club all the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
1st Team Coach Nigel Pearson will take control of the team until further notice.

Dear me, fancy a Bolton Fan getting upset over spelling. I certainly include Campo in that list of thugs. The facts do speak for themselves…Bolton have taken football back to Jurassic Park. So fat man got you to 6th in the premier league…he got you to 1st in the despised league. Keegan got us to 2nd from near relegation, made us every football fans 2nd favourite team, got us the epithet of ‘the entertainers’ Football is not just about bits of tin. Get back to your cave.

It sounds like we’re going to be stuck with Redknapp for the next 3-5 years. I’am extremely concerned about the future of this club. Do Ashley and Mort know what they are doing? They have never run a football club before. I feel they will end up selling the club in the next year or two. Continuity, thats a laugh. The only consolation is that Arry is probably the best out of the bunch of all the other crap UK possibles like Hughes and Mclaren. Turn Sky Sports News on , Redknapp is on his way to Newcastle today !! GUTTED !!!!!

I agree whole-heartedly with tom, if Ashley had’ve appointed Sam in the summer, then yes, it would be a farcical situation, but he didn’t. He’s just plowed a shit-load of cash into the club to write off the debts accummulated by others, so that very first response questioning the cost of this is just plain ignorance of the situation. He let it go for a while, to see what he could do, he didn’t deliver, end of. Why the fck should someone who can afford the cream of the crop be content to sit there with second best and grin and bear it. The Premiership’s changing, we’ve just been taken over by a great guy who’s in a position to keep pace, and you’s are all talking about being patient. That sacking was the dawn of a new era, and you’s don’t like it….. aye, smashing…. Howay the lads…

in reply to John’s comments about Bolton thugs. do you mean the lokes of Anelka, Okocha, Nolan, Stellios,Campo, etc, ect, Why dont you put your tiny little brain into gear (if you have one that is) before opening your stupid fat mouth. The problem was not Sam Allardyce but pleb’s such as yourself who probably dont know the first thing about the game. Sam took Bolton from the first division to 6th place in the premier league…..The facts speak for themself. Newcastle are now where they deserve to be….The laughing stock of the Premier league.
ps you cannot even spell Sam’s surname correctly. It’s Allardyce not a Allerdyce.

steve coppell to take charge one of the best managers in europe.record number of points in the championship over 100pts in 05/06 season.came 8th in premiership spending no money.he plays attractive attacking football.spent only 2.5m on replacement for sidwell now 12th with their form and january could easily get europe.he won manager of the year last year.the man is a genius.keep in mind reading are a tiny club.if he is appointed newcastle manager will win a shit loads of tropies trust me.we need to get him before liverpool snatch him.without coppell watch reading get relegated.thats how good this man is.imagine what he could do with 50mill and newcastle.he nows the european market and will buy top quality attacking players.arsene wenger rates him very highly because of his style of play.my heart will bleed if coppell is not appointed.if i am the only person who relises this then that makes me sad becuse there are very few in the game like coppell and this is a once in a chance opportunity.come newcastle fans get behind coppell.

I couldn’t be happier if Steve McQueen had got over that fence in The Great Escape. Allerdyce was not just the wrong manager, he was the wrong man! He tried to do with footballers what he did with thugs at Bolton. let’s hope he’s run out of football, never mind Newcastle.
The time factor is a myth, look at what Sven has achieved at Man City. But, compare him to Allerdyce. Sven is cultured and sophisticated, Allerdyce a tub of lard. How did Man City get George Clooney and we ended up with Oliver Hardy?
What’s Rannieri up to?

Absolutely disgusted what the hell is going on!? I dont understand the point of this and right as the january window starts. So who’s going to be next? People recon that Jol, or Moyes, or Shearer (yeah right) are going to wave a magic wand and we’ll be playing in Europe next season? Do they have a clue who they want to take over!? I doubt it.
I cant believe they sacked the man at this point of the season there’s nothing another manager will be able to do apart from possibly lead us to relegation and after all the public support from Mort what absolute bulls**t.
Yeah I know we’ve played crap and we aren’t where we want to be, I know we lost and then drew with Derby but what Sam asked for is time and are we really any better of now than we were last season. Bobby Robson finished midtable in his first few years as manager then what happened after? I’m increasingly begging to believe that 1992 is going to be seen as pinnacle of our clubs success.
I need a bloody pint.

The key to success appears to be quite simple, sign any idiot as manager preferably from the UK and especially if he’s won nowt and plays boring, negative football. Then employ him for at least 3 years no matter how we play and where we are in the league. In year 4 something magic will happen and we will then be a force to be reckoned with playing fast flowing creative football and we’ll start winning trophies. I’ve seen the light !!
Yes continuity is needed but ONLY if you have the RIGHT man in charge and in my imo that man should be a top International Coach with a proven track record. I would keep Pearson as Caretaker manager for the rest of the season or as long as it takes to get the right man, we’ve had 5 rubbish managers out of the last 7. Watch how much better we play now the Fat Man’s gone !!

I think people should remember that allardyce was appointed by shepherd. Imagine if you were a billionaire owner and bought a team with a newly installed manager, would you keep him just for the sake of “continuity”? Especially considering the way allardyce plays. If in another 8 months whomever ashley appoints is sacked then I believe there is a continuity problem, but I see this as being more related to the takeover rather than allardyce’s poor performance, and thus less similar to the roeder and souness sackings.

The sacking is a surprise, come about by the board not backing Sam in the transfer market no doubt. With the take over Sam was always on borrowed time and the fact he has clearly lost the dressing room has done him no favours.
His signings have not worked out and the Barton gamble has blown up in his face. Whilst I agree that stability is paramount to success it is clear that Allardyce was taking the club in a direction that was not in-line with Ashley’s ambitions. What those ambitions are will become evident in the next hire.
And can we stop the comparisons to Ferguson and Wenger. The fact that Wenger has openly slammed Allardyce’s style of play suggests they are poles apart. Allardyce claimed to play winning football, 2 wins out of the last 13 is relegation form.

what a disgrace the sacking of allardyce is. all Newcastle fans should be ashamed of themselves for calling for his head.
you cant just expect things to change overnight and big Sam clearly needed time which ultimately because of the fans he never got. absolutely shocking!!!
what next what about the new manager? shearer? what about 8 months down the line when he doesn’t get results should you sack him? thought not!!! you want to hang your heads in shame, the top and bottom is success can only be achieved given time look at arsenal, won nowt for a couple of years but built a team that now sits top of the premier league. could big Sam have done the same? we’ll never know now because Chris Mort and mike Ashley bowed to fans pressure.that hardly shows strong leadership from the owner and chairman.
ultimately success has to be earned, there’s no god given right to it. I’ve lost all respect for the Newcastle fans who wanted him out, its a disgrace!
rip big sam allardyce
p.s:(hope your next job is at a BIG club and you have a successful managerial career and show the geordie faithful what they could have had)

if the club was in relagation maybe i could understand, but it is not your above clubs with ambitions bigger tahn maybe your own, your rebuilding, eight months and the sack, thank god the manchester united board had abit more patient with fergie, about four years if i remember right, i,ve always kind of like newcastle but they seem to be turning into a laughing stock, after this incedent the best place for them is the championship, make them appreciate what they,ve had. johnny holland

Bollocks to all this crap about “we must lower our expectations”.
My expectations are that I want to see players who are better than just bog-standard cloggers, I want to see players who can control and pass the ball, have skill and are allowed to express themselves on the pitch.
And skill will always come a poor second in the priorities of Allardyce compared to effort and sweat, I can see that in the Northern league.
Football is meant to be an entertainment and like many others I pay a large chunk of my pay to support my team, whats wrong in demanding to be entertained by players who are paid anything between 40 and 100 thousand pounds a week to do just that.

Re Glenn Harrison Comment
how can you have one without the other - look at Man U in paticular - Ferguson at Man U was one match away from the Sack apparently after 4 Years in charge until he won a trophy - my point is to gain success you need adequate time to put the foundations in place to achieve it - eight months is not enough time - four years is more than enough. We need to get some respect and giving a manager a decent stab at the job will allow us to build the foundations and stop us being a bloody laughing stock again!! I am sick of it.

Re. SteveM comment “I have always said that stability brings success hence why we have none.”
Since when has stability guaranteed success…..stability comes about by bringing success not the other way round. There was never a sniff of “he who believes his own press” bringing any sort of success to Newcastle. The final legacy of Shephard now dispensed with. Good ridance.

well what can i say the minority win. The few people who can shout the loudest succeed. The man was in 8 months how on earth was he going to get the team playing his way in that time. I only hope Mr Ashely n Mort have there heads screwed on and already have a big name lined up. Because if not we are going to be in real trouble for the rest of this season. Alan Shearer is really not the man for the job the hero he is. He can’t jump into a job this big without premiership experience. Just look at Boro and S*nderland with there inexperienced managers. All in all this seems disastrous unless we get a Mourinho type manager.
Sent in on: January 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Shocked. Our usual impeccable timing.
Its 11years to the day since Keegan quit and weve had 6 managers in that time. Where is the continuity? Lets just hope that Ashley and Mort have more success with their appointments.
Sent in on: January 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
The sacking of Allardyce was only a when and not an if. If Ashley and Mort are the sharp business men they say they are then I would imagine that the next manager is already in the wings. Hopefully it will announced asap to stop the usual nonsense. I don’t care who it is as long as he has football in his soul.

Unless there is a replacement lined up (a decent one at that) then this a very poor decision by messrs Ashley and Mort.
I know the performances of late have been poor but as I have always said that stability brings success hence why we have none. If the Fans have ultimatly forced Sam out and I think we have to some extent then we need to take a long hard look at ourselves - Big Sam needed time I personally would have given him to the end of the season and then seen where we were.We must lower our expection levels - at present the best we can hope for with the current rabble is mid - table, if you look at when Sir Bobby was in charge it took him until his 3rd season before the club started moving forward - I remember there was plenty of poor performances up to that point but no-one was calling for Bobbys head then.To acheive succsess Big Sams replacement needs time …..and god on his side!
One Point though - it seems interesting that Big Sam and Nigel Pearson were solid defenders in their day so why couldnt they get our defence organised.

Absolutely shocked, we are now officially the laughing stock of world football, i hope there is some master plan in the pipeline but yet again thats the eternal hope us geordies seem to have and but always amounts to nothing.
I hope Ashley has not been swayed by standing in with fans and listening to half the crap that is spouted.
Not saying Sam was the man but he had to be given time, just makes me think only a madman will want to come and manage us.
Sent in on: January 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Not a big surprise, really. The replacement will tell if it was a good move.
Maybe we can start dreaming about Europe allready this season?

SHOULD HAVE GOT SACKED AFTER THE PORTSMOUTH GAME. IM A NEWCASTLE FAN THROUGH AND THROUGH AND IF IM SPEAKING FOR MOST OF US, WE DONT LIKE PLAYING LONG BALL. THE NEXT MANAGER WILL HAVE TO HAVE ATTACKING FLAIR,GRAFTERS IN THE MIDDLE WITH WING BACKS UP AND DOWN AND TRANSFER FUNDS OF £100 MILLION INJECTED INTO THE SQUAD IMMEDIATLY!!!!. “BRING BACK KEEGAN WITH SHEARER AS ASSISTANT”

I have mixed feelings about this.
No, at times he didn’t look like he knew what he was doing.
But how are we going to progress?
I hope Mort and Ashley have a plan already in place!
