Behind Enemy Lines: Arsenal (a)
By Baggio On Mon 24 Sep 2007 |
Tomorrow night we face a tough away test at the Emirates stadium against table topping Arsenal in the Carling cup, I spoke to USArsenal, a moderator on the https://arsenal-mania.com/ to find out his opinion in the game and Arsenal’s fantastic start to the season.
1. You’ve had a great start to the season, who have been your best performers in your early season form? Cesc Fabregas, Hleb, Adebayor, Sagna, Clichy, Toure….
2. With Henry departing, do you think the club will miss him long term? what do you think of the way he’s started at Barcelona? no, i dont think we will miss him long term. i thought we might miss him in the short tem more, but it appears that is not necessarily the case…
3. How serious do you think Wenger will be taking the Carling cup this year? not very.. the CC is always where we “blood in some more youngsters”.. this year will be no different…
4. Theo Walcott doesn’t seem to be grabbing the headlines like he did when he first joined, is he progressing the way you had hoped? not necessarily.. he needs more games to progress faster, which is hard since we have players ahead of him in the positions he will be used in….
5. With talk about you being another club about to be taken over by foreign ownership, what is your opinion on that? Do you want it to happen? im sure that i can speak for a few fans in saying that we do not want to be taken over. especially given the recent financial figures that put us at the second “richest” club in the world. many thought we would need an investors money to be truly competitive, but as many can see, that isnt really the case.
6. As you all know we’ve got Allardyce as our new manager, what is your opinion on him and the tactics he often uses against you? this won’t be a shocker, but most Arsenal fans do not like Allardyce.. his tactics at Bolton always seemed to be to kick us around and sky the ball up front to the forwards.. not sure if the tactic will be the same at Newcastle… i think it was disappointing to him last season when we finally overcame that tactic and beat Bolton..
7. What are your early impressions of Eduardo Da Silva? good player, lots of potential.. scored a couple goals as a sub.. too early to really tell yet, but think he can be a big part of a successful squad…
8. Do you think Spurs can get 4th this season?! no.. they are a mess currently… other teams have progressed further than they have even though they spend a lot…
9. What do you think of the situation with them with Martin Jol at the moment? unless they turn their results around, he is gone before November…
10. Which players of ours do you think will cause you problems tomorrow? depending on who plays in the Carling Cup for you really… Martins, Viduka, N’Zogbia are your most dangerous players..
11. And who of yours should we keep a close eye on? also, depends on who plays… Eduardo, Bendtner, Diaby, Theo.. more than likely many of our first team players (like RvP or Adebayor or Fabregas) won’t play….
12. Finally, a score prediction? since we’re at home, i will say 2-1 Arsenal… could be quite different depending on the teams that are put out there…
Thanks to USArsenal for his time.

The problem is Sam is that we’ll have another 2 of these this season with Arsenal at least when we face them in the Premiership, so we try and keep the questions as varied as possible to stop us becoming too repetitive with stock questions.
If there’s anything you would like us to ask in future, feel free to sign up to the forum and PM either myself or TomNUFC with your requests.

Interesting to see SA’s team and set up tonight, difficult to predict until we see his line up. Since they are going to field their kids, i’d be very tempted to go for it tonight 442 and hit them with the best team (left) availiable to us. However SA seems to be a safety first type and i’d bet on a tight 433/451 set up although with many of the new lads taking part, as he’s already said we need to rotate the squad due to playing on Sunday.
I’ll go for a surprise 2-0 to us with Martins and Ameobi both scoring!

Hey USArsenal, hows the team going in Dugout Online, you won the league yet?

In my honest opinion, it will be a very tight match with only one goal, going either side. The geordies will be defending deep if they score first, and if it’s the other way round, I think it would be difficult for us to score more than one cause of the experience in your side.
1-0 to arsenal, bendtner scoring in the 2nd half.

Good read as always, but it would be better imo if the questions focused only on the match itself and a couple about the oppo’s background, rather than talking about Tottenham.

Good article, and very even handed. Well done.
I think Big Sam is a great addition for you guys - who seem to have underperformed recently. I think you’ll get UEFA this year, and have a better chance than spurs do of making 4th and the CL.
It is very early yet, of course, but I have a feeling that the turmoil at Chelsea wont go away quickly, and the transition willl harm their results.
If I was a Geordie, I’d be looking to beat Chelsea to 4th behind Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal, who I think will form the top three this year.
Just as long as you have a shocker vs our kids this week………
