Your Shout: Watford 1-1 Newcastle Utd - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Sun 13 May 2007 |
Newcastle-Online’s match preview really did highlight how much the side needed a result today in order to end the season with some vague resemblance of that feeling we used to call hope - we got one shot on target. A Kieron Dyer goal did break a long drought, but a King penalty left things all even, and fans grumbling. Roll on next season.
Dare I ask… what did you make of the season? What of the summer? Of next season, even? Past, present, future… have your say!

what a pile of crap owen is who needs him how long is it since he won sumfin again get players who are used 2 winning things viduka n speed 4 the toon cmon champs league next term

I feel that we could quite of easily been relegated this season with the amount of injuries we’ve had, and then having to play most of our youth and reserve players. Im glad Roeder managed to keep us up in the end, who knows what coulda happened if someone else was in charge.

any reason why we were wearing our away kit at watford? home kit doesnt exactly clash with bright yellow does it?
Sent in on: May 14th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
oh one more thing, the only other real player worth a fuck who has been mentioned in the press about going to chelski etc is martins and he has came out every single time and said that he is staying on tyneside with us. as did emre just two weeks ago.
Sent in on: May 14th, 2007 at 10:58 am
phil, i agree that some people like ameobi, roeder (he also said he was staying himself by the way), and one or two others say owen is staying but you fail to mention that the one person that says he is staying is owen himself. why is he doing jack shit to stop this merry go round of rumors???

i think we can be in europe again next season if we get allardyce. He can give the players a kick up the backside and get the best out of them. we havent been good enough this season, and next season with a better defence and hopefully getting the best out of our midfielders and strikers, we can be where we deserve. Roeder hasnt been strong enough to do what is needed and especially midfieldwise, weve lost the ball and not created enough chances, and I know we can do that if they get their act sorted out and want to play for the team.
After watching the season review of last season, I think we played better football under souness than roeder- this season we have been toothless, and I think last season we at least were better attackingwise- nzogbia emre and solano = goals goals goals- even parkers efforts last year were vaguely on target rather than into row Z! (although lack of shearer is also a major factor). this season theres been very few goals, all of which came from martins. has anyone else noticed we have failed to score directly from a free kick this season? last season we scored loads!!!

Lots of people are slating Owen but you dont see any other players coming out and deniying transfer rumours do you. Its this attitude that will push him away.
They leaked it did they then if so it was leaked last year or before because i think we have all heard the press banging on about it in the past but then the figure was 12 million not 9.
Their have been so many people close to Owen saying he is staying and defending him. So i think some of you should get a grip and support your own players instead of enchouraging then to leave. I certainly would not want to work some where i did not feel welcome or not trusted.

it seems like we are all a bit split over owen. one thing you lot that are saying ‘dont let him go’ dont seem to be mentioning is the fact that we can not stop him going, its out of our hands. plus look at one simple fact, owen is well aware ofthis media frenzy surrounding him and his iminent departure to a better side - manure or liverpool etc and he has had many chances to come out and say its all a load of bollocks and that he is staying at newcastle. what has he said though - fuck all, thats what. and do you know why - its cos it was him and his agents that leaked out the release clause to the press to start with to drum up interest and awareness in the bigger clubs. so if he is doing that then as far as i am concerened he has to go as he has not passion or loyalty to us. we need to get shot of a fair few others too. all the defence appart from taylor have to go, sibieski, ameobi, luque, all out too. maybe dyer at the right price too. I would like to say that i like dyer but how many bloody years have we been paying 80 grand a week hoping that he would turn it on proper for us every week? donkeys years and all we see is sporadic glimses of how good he is if he applied himself properly. i would keep parker as he is a midfield dynamo, just imagine how much he will improve under sam alladyce. martins i would hang onto as he is of the same mould as owen but he is younger, faster, stronger and has an equally sharp eye for finishing - oh yeah, he also WANTS to play for us - not like owen. we need one more striker, a big feller to play off martins, right back, left back and a top class centre half. then with a combination of good managment and a reduction in injuries we can then realisticaly look at a top 6.
owen, pack ya bags and piss off or commit to us- dont play games.

Also i can’t believe people are saying get rid of Owen he is awesome and has just come back from injury all he needs is match fitness. i will be sooo pissed off if we let Owen go that would be the biggest mistake ever he is pure class and will grab us goals and what is this SHIT i read that we are going to let OBa Martins and Emre go aswell they are class we definantly need to keep them two we will have a gun side with Allardyce as manager Emre in midfield and Owen and Martins upfront DO NOT LET ANY OF THOSE THREE LEAVE NEWCASTLE UNITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sent in on: May 14th, 2007 at 5:30 am
What a fucking suprise draw with the worst team in the league typical of us and Owen getting injured AGAIN!!! what is going on! Please whoever the new manager is KEEP CHARLES N’ZOGBIA he is class and hes young and will only get better
Sent in on: May 14th, 2007 at 5:27 am
Jesus what a bunch of moaning girls you all are. Whinging and moaning about owen. He wont go in the summer because hes a top guy and wants to do well at newcastle. Hes come back from injury for over a year and played 3 games and your all expecting what???
I dont know what, becuase if you look at the match we had one shot on goal the WHOLE game, and it wasnt as if it was because the forwards were spurning chances it was because they WERENT getting any.
And all that comes from the useless pile of crap of a midfield.
And pearson can p*ss off and all with roedor, what a moron, first he doesnt start zog and then when asked by the press why he wasnt playing he tells them hes had a tiff. Is he trying to get rid of out best left sided player??
Lie , tell them hes injured, or better yet, start the man instead of mathew ( im a midget who can run all day but cant pass) pattison.
And if newcastle want to go anywhere next season they need to hold on to the players like owen and remove the trash like carr, babayaro, bramble and some of those useless youngtsers who will never amount to anything but a championship squad player like pattison and ramage.

Dont know that Owen is quite a disgrace, hes been pretty unlucky….
But Viduka and Anelka upfront, now thats a quality strike force!
Sent in on: May 14th, 2007 at 2:06 am
LongBeachCA_Toon, I would be very surprised if that is considered a possible scenario. Atleast for the upcoming season…
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Possible future scenario. Big Sam Allardyce arrives at Newcastle and immediately revives the fortunes of the club. Fans are driven to a frenzy as the team climbs the table to compete for the title and a place in the champions league. As the season closes, NUFC finishes third and are finalist in the FA cup. At the same time, Steve McLaren stumbles. England are in a shambles. During the summer, the FA come to Sam for help. Sam takes over England. NUFC finds a new manager and finishes……………..
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
One factor lost us the 3 points… MATTY PATTISON?!?! Ye he’s young but he isn’t a young talent like Charles N’zogbia. Sub a young talent like N’zogbia ahead of a no talent Pattison and he’s gonna be gone. Don’t let it happen!

The end to another sad and drawn out season, a fitting end for a group of players who have shown little or no passion for the club, players who are, lets face it wanting to be any where else but here. So what now?
I do have one or two concerns, lets see what you think…
Why are we rushing in to sighn a new manager? The club for once has done the right thing by accepting the managers resignation at the end of a season rather than four games into the new season, so you would think they would learn from past mistakes and take their time (tout the job), but NO we are straight in there sighning the first manager that comes along, I am sorry but this whole thing seems strange..
1. newcastle have worst season for long time.
2. a manager who newcastle have chased for a long time suddenly and quite unexplicably leaves the team he has built for european football, but which has always just missed out on (once due to newcastle) for reasons only known to him.
3. Roeder a week later leaves due to poor performances.(even though he has asked to be given till christmas to turn it round) with a years full salary.
4. Newcastle are suddenly free to sighn a new managerand low and behold it is sam.
Sorry something doesn’t sit right here.
And one more thing before i go.
Gerrard Hollier… fa cup, european cup, league cup and with lyon he is top of the league…
Sven Goran erickson….. italian league , spanish league
Schilari…. semi final world cup prtugal, final brazil, semi spain..
Big Sam..???????????????
make your own minds up.

Needless to say Chris G. known to be plagued with injuries. And the fact that he refuses to show his loyalty to the club, after being injured the whole season, is just a good enough reason to let him go (that is, for a decent price).
I think that would be the right thing to do, because there are other strikers out there that would fit us better.
I’m excited to see how Fat Fred’s gonna solve this situation, cause I’m not too optimistic towards next season with the current “squad” and the lack of loyalty from over-paid under-achievers.

OWENS ONLY PLAYED 2 GAMES THIS SEASON AND YOU WANT RID.
WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON HEEL STAY
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Sad.
As for Owen, he was my favourite player in the world (and still is, despite not being able to play.). I know from experience that it can take a month or two to get back into the swing of things if you’re out a long time. I got injured playing for my school team here in the US. I was out for most of our playing season, and towards the end, when I came back, I was shite. My touch was heavy, I had a tendency to get the ball to someone else at the first opportunity, etc. After about a month though, I was free-scoring again.
So don’t knock him until he gets a proper chance to prove himself again. Here’s hoping that proper chance will be at Newcastle. :/

Good that season is Over, Now to rebuild. I do not care if Michael Owen stays or goes, the fact that he has not come out and stated his commitment. Owen is not the same, even if he goes to Liverpool or Man united, he will prove he has lost it. Get Bellamy , or Anelka, or Rudd Van Nistelrooy, and get rid of old, Slow and Obese. Away with him. In fact I would think he better go because that was Glen Roader’s excuse, the fact Owen was out making it seem as though he was bigger than the team.

no dont sell owen- if i wo owen i would feel guilty bowt leaving cos of shearer n jst keep owen!

Proof positive of the effect of Freds reign at the club

well in answer to my earlier question, n’zogbia stormed out of vicarage road after being named as a substitute for the game.I hope we keep him, he is a young talent and could be come quality.
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
What a shile of pite, a season that couldn’t end soon enough. I can just imagine all the big clubs queing up to buy Owen. Even before the injury he didn’t sound very interested in the game. When your star player goes down injured it should be a worry not a here we go again, how long this time. I hope the new manager can come in and get some consistency out of the team at the very least. I will be there with all my support next season, but definately of the mind that they have everything to proove to me. Sunderland aren’t going to be the same joke they have been the last two times in the Premier and the new manager won’t want to in a situation of playing second fiddle to that lot. Should be all very interesting. Howay the lads.

And I don’t think anyone is sad to see that season end. Now our broken, litteraly, players can rest. Like the the likes of Shay Given, who needs it more then most, he’ll be gald more then most that the seasons over, injury wise he’s a horrible season and now he can rest.
Owen, like, Owen knows he’s better then Newcastle. When I say that I mean that he knows that he’s a phonecall away from the likes of Man U or Liverpool. I’ve always felt, I could be wrong now like, but I’ve always felt that if you’re world class like Owen and you’re not in a top 4 or so clubs then you’ve either got to be very passionate about a “lower” club that you’re in like Newcastle or else you’ve been made there, like the likes of Shay Given, who realistically could play at any other club in Europe and probally have the no. 1 shirt. He’s been ridiculously loyal, he deserves better, he deserves trophies and success. But he’s so loyal. I can’t see him leaving even though he overworked and plays behind a pathetic “defense.” He’s played there most of his career and has been overworked time and time again and has saved us so many times now that we take it for granted. He’s loyal. But like I said he’s developed his game there and he’s now seen as one of the best in the world. Like I don’t have anything against Harper he’s really loyal and good aswell, but when Given was injured at West Ham early on in the season, out for 2 months, Newcastle floated around the relegation zone, first game back he played a major part in the draw against Arsenal only to beated by a classy Henry free off the under of the post, that was the only way he was getting beaten. He’s been out for so long this season it’s cost them alot of points, more so then missing Owen. He’s really good and deserves better. But Owen like really what is he doing there, really like. He knows he’s good enough to play with the likes of Man United. He fell into, the glory trap and went to Real Madrid, like so many others, was miserable, came back and went to Newcastle, but honestly I don’t think anybody thought that it’d be a permanent fixture. If he leaves good luck to him, we’re better off without him, he’s an injury to his knee away from his career being over for good. GOOD LUCK to him.

Glad the season is over. Not too fussed about Owen staying or going.
Big Sam has got a lot of work to do!
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Er….did someone write “let’s get Viduka???”
Rumours - albeit from the tabloids - talk about Sam possibly going for Joey Barton and Ljungberg (assuming Big Sam does take over). That would be an excellent start. I checked, and Ljungberg is only just 30 last month. Midfielders who can potentially get GOALS too.
I’d go for Sol Campbell as well, plus a younger defender and a lb. I’m not sure about Owen. Maybe it’s time to rebuild our strike force too. B.S will have to get bloody busy!
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
Well, I’m bloody glad thats over! We need defenders no question, but we still need a striker or two, and a couple of midfielders. I agree, let Owen go, and we can hopefulyl get someone like bellamy, kuyt, crouch in return if he goes to liverpool, or Darren Bent or Dean Ashton would be perfect. Our centre midfield pairing needs changed, we need to bring some passion and some commitment back to it, as it has been severely lacking this season. I hate to say it but Souness got the best from Emre and Parker, something Roeder couldnt do with any of the players. Duff, Zoggy, Milner and Nobby have to stay and this will create healthy competition between 4 quality wingers. Defense is obvious to everyone. I just hope big Sam comes in and does his stuff, i really dont think he’ll manage us like he did bolton, the budget is much different, the exisiting players and the clubs in general…..I look forward to 07/08. Come on Sam!

After getting to know that we drew against a jumbo team like Watford, I must admit that I’m seriously afraid of direct relegation next season.
I, for one, can’t understand how a club like N’castle can go from playing attacking and entertaining football back in the Keegan days, to, well, sorry to say, championship football today. I guess you need to (three things) 1. A shitty “chairman” called Fat Fred, 2. A series of medicore managers (except Robson, he was class, and as a Toon fan it is truely a shame he got the sack) 3. Terrible players.
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
where was n’zogbia?
Sent in on: May 13th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
you know what i think - i think stuff owen. if he does not want to play for us then i think he should pack his bags and we can get 11mil for him from manure utd! why should we fret over a bloke that does not have any passion or drive for our club. what has he given us other than discontent? nothing, thats what! besides, Martins is the same size, sharp infront of goal and now twice as fast, let owen go and lets look for a striker that will compliment martins, instead of being a slower, older, more expensive, less driven version of him. GOODBYE OWEN AND GOOD RIDDANCE.
