Your Shout: Tottenham 2-3 Newcastle - Have Your Say - Write In

Newcastle goals from defence, midfield and attack saw them record a superb away victory at White Hart Lane in what has instantly been heralded as a five-goal Premiership classic. Jermaine Defoe’s opener was cancelled out not two minutes later when the unlikely Paul Huntington recorded his first ever senior goal for the club. After falling behind again to a 54th minute Berbatov strike, the space of two minutes saw Obafemi Martins first unleash a ludicrous rocket into Spurs’ goal and then Nicky Butt cap a splendid team goal. Let the good times roll…
Have Your Say!
What do you make of our form in 2007? How do you reconcile performances like these with that of our performance at Everton? With Parker and Emre missing, who impressed you in the middle? Can Newcastle push for Europe, or is it too late? Who deserves to keep their place in the team once the injured eleven return?

Yes we got battered!!
Yes they had more possesion!!
yes they had twenty odd shots!!
BUT
We battled, we never gave up and came away with the points. The lads are playing for each other and for the shirt. When I saw the team sheet I thought we were in for a stuffing. Butt played well, Shay was outstanding and what can you say about Oba`s goal, I thought the net was going to break. Overall a proper TEAM effort which goes to prove big names dont mean big results although im not suggesting we dont need the likes of parker/emre/duff/zog/owen back it has given Milner, Butt and Dyer a great boost to get a run in the team.I think we have found our central defensive partnership in Tayls/Rammy. If we can sign two full backs and a striker(beattie) in the next week I think we can push for a top six(at least) finish. Please Glen DO NOT bring back BABAYARO and CARR regardless of the injury crisis, let the kids play ,Hunty and Edgar played well and want to play for the shirt the other two are lazy has beens who dont deserve to play for this club, Get them sold!!

Excellent result!! We are talking about an injury “crisis” but alot of the injured players will seriously struggle to get back in, Duff won’t, Parker will also struggle. I think the only one is possibly Owen!!

I hope GR doesn’t ever read some of these points of view. The win was well deserved and all that counts at the end is the result. Possesion and missed chances don’t count for sod all. This was also a very young squad and pulled through with flying colours. A home team should be shot in any sport if it doesn’t come out with all guns blazing. The better teams have a way of weathering the storm and grinding out a result. The performances at both Bolton and espcially Everton deserved much better. My biggest concern is when we do have a fully fit team, will other players be shunned like Luque by Mr. Roeder. Picking the right team could get harder not easier. I am looking forward to that day either way. I hope the team can win more games they don’t apparently deserve.

Ya it was a great result, Given kept us in it in the first half but coming back from that then twice was really good result. Given was fantastic, saving us AGAIN, Solano, Martins, Dyer, Butt, I could go on all day, they we’re just all brilliant. And AND the 11 we started with were the same 11 we finished with, the first time in like 36 games or something, I don’t know what Roeder was more happy about that or winning the game. Jol was a bit shell shocked in the interview afterwards. Oh what a laugh, still it was a great results!! Who should stay, I don’t know..
Given anyway definatley
Solano
Dyer
Butt
Martins
Sibierski
Milner..maybe Taylor
I can’t really think right now, like but I’d say that it’ll be intresting to see who’ll get played.

Good result Tottenham were definitely the dominant team but the boys dug deap and got a great result against all the odds so thumbs up to the boys. Martins goal was unbelievable typical Oba Martins it doesn’t matter what foot both are as good as each other best both footed player in the world. I do agree that the left side of the field was very weak and that Pattison should not be playing ahead of Luque who didn’t even make the bench although he’s not really performed for us I think he’s class and if we are not going to let him leave then we might as well play him.

We got slaughtered and Given saved our skins again, but to come back from being down twice, away from home at White Hart Lane is excellent, even though the performance was crud.
Oh and Martins goal was brilliant, best goal so far for Newcastle this season I think.

Amazing result, we were played off the park for long spells of the game with Tottenhams attacking play cutting through our defence. But I thought we always looked like we could still get something from the game, even after their 2nd. We won this game on spirit alone.. helped by two bits of magic by our 10m pound man!
Since the away draws at Man City and Arsenal, the team seems to have a new attitude and team spirit. Very similar to the one we inherited after Roeder took over in Febuary, just under a year ago. I believe we are playing our best football since Bobby Robson era. As we all know, excluding the rare run of having a certain Michael Owen in the team, the football we played under Mr Souness was very poor. The problem at the minute is, we are playing this lovely football and scoring goals (round about 20 in our last 10 premiership games) but we have some many injuries all over the park, but especially defence. So we are conceding aswel.
The left back slot is a BIG problem, and really should be sorted out in the January window, even if it just a player on loan, but we NEED a proper left back, not a centre back playing left back.
Wayne Bridge would obviously be nice, but with Chelsea’s HUGE injury CRISIS kicking in.. we can forgot that one for now.
Paul Konchesky apparently will be sold by now West Ham manager Alan Curbishley, as they dont get on from their Charlton days. England capped? Cheap? Premiership experience? Not yet peaked? Come on Glenn!
Stephen Warnock has been touted as a possible make weight in the Lucas Neill to Liverpool deal… Always worth a go though.
Stories in the paper claiming Newcastle are front of the queue for a young Italian LB from Inter Milan. After doing recent business with Inter for Emre, and more recent Martins, this could well be true. But was Glenn having any of it? … Didnt think so.
Please deliver Glenn, this could the only thing holding you back from taking this club back up to the next level.
I realise GR can only do what the big man allows so Fred, GET YOUR FINGER OUT!

Was a fantastic result for our youngsters with several senior players standing out in the win. Given, Solano, Dyer and Martins were fantastic. Dyer brings a totally different dimension to our midfield with his cheeky moves and touches that allow him to open space for himself and others. Oba… where do I start, he wasn’t involved much in the game until the insane blast. When it practically tore the net to shreads all I could do was laugh! He needs to learn to slow the game up for us at the top when we’re under the kosh. He’s got years to improve and the sheer fact that the tying goal was one of his two good chances in the games will make other squads shake in their boots once we have a fully fit squad and Mikey Owen partnering him. Fastest forward tandom in the Prem’. One player I haven’t heard get much credit from anyone though is Le Sib! Granted he didn’t give us a whole lot in attack, but the way he worked back, hussled the opposition and was willing to give 110% in chasing the ball around for the entire 90 minutes deserves some credit. Good team effort, more like this one lads!

I have to say people around my block must have thought i was mad as I was jumping up and down while shouting as loud as possible. It was great work by the team and you could tell they were given an assignment by Roeder to stick too and they did….Well done.
I think Roder is going to have a real delima when Parker is fully fit because i think we play much better with Butt doing the dirty work for Dyer/Emre alongside him. I just hope we get either Duff or Zoggy fit cause i don’t think you can go far when the opposing teams know you are only going to come at them from the right side.
To be frank I don’t think a center back is needed ASAP i think we can wait till the summer for a better deal but i do think we need to bring in a left back or defender that can play on either side of the back four. Also I have not seen much report out there on Lauren being linked with anyone since Wrenger said he was available. What do you think of him as an addition to the toon.
I don’t get a lot of live games in the U.S. but if this was what i had to wait for, it was most def worth it.

I do agree with the left side argument. I know Luque isn’t a popular man, and perhaps rightfully Roeder has blooded youngsters rather than play him, but surely he should’ve been chosen Luque over Pattison on the left, if not then why not Alan O’brien? Luque is on his way lets face it, but I don’t think thats a valid reason to not at least try and get some money’s worth from him, an ex-spanish international must be more threatening than an only recently graduated academy player who I beleive’s preferred playing position is central midfield?
However its a good sign when you do win games when perhaps you shouldn’t have in terms of possession, chances etc. It is a credit to Roeder’s capabilities that he is now managing an injury destroyed team remarkably well, using players that he has done remarkably well with in his previous post as academy manager.
However his lack of movement in the transfer window is starting to get worrying, and I’m getting increasingly sick of Alan Oliver writing off any quality layer we’re linked with, but then having the journalistic balls to claim that “Roeder will be confirming the signing of a new defender tomorrow”, when clearly he didn’t the day after this claim was publsihed.
Less of the rant, a damn good win! And what a retaliation to Chimbonda and Berbatov’s sly ways.

Glorious victory, but I have to admit- not deserved. I think it’s time Milner to go away. This lad had over 10 long balls, but only one or two were good ones. Others were goal kicks or throw-ins. Not to mention how many times he overplayed an opposite player. Anyway… I was absolutely delighted in the way we f***ed Spurs. It hurts more in that way and I have to say I don’t like Spurs a lot. So CHEERS and let the good results, even with an unoriginal play go on!
Greetz from BG!

Thirty-nine quid a ticket, 20 minutes from the nearest tube station, no beer in the away end from 3:45pm and stewarding akin to that of a fascist regime.
Me and me fatha were beginning to wish we hadn’t bothered till Oba let rip. Days like these keep you going, following the just and righteous cause that is Newcastle United.
An honourable mention to Nicky Butt, in my eyes he has repented his Cardiffian sins. The man has erred, been sent to Coventry (well close enough) and returned to be something like the player we thought we’d bought in the summer of 2004. Well done young man.
To quote the man standing behind me at full time,” GERRINYEBASSAAS!”.

The win was superb, but not deserved. Thanks to Given, Butt and Martins. The left side was non-existent - no attacking play on the left side. O.K. Huntington scored and Pattison could have scored, but there was absolutly no run on the left side. And the two youngsters could not handle the pace of Lennon or Defoe.
Pattison, Huntington, will have to leave the first eleven, when injured players return. Given, Taylor, Butt, Milner, Dyer and Martins will stay. Ramage, Solano (as a right back), Sibierski (I don’t like his playing) will play, because there is no better player in the squad, who will return in the next two months.
Europe: Win the F.A. Cup will be easier than reach a place for Europe in the league. So go for it.
Anyway I was celebrating the win against the Spurs!!
