Your Shout: Newcastle Utd 2-2 West Ham - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Sat 20 Jan 2007 |
A goal on the stroke of half-time from the highly impressive James Milner and a second half spot-kick from Nobby Solano ensured Newcastle snatched a draw from a game where they could just have easily lost or won. It’s a topsy-turvy game in a topsy-turvy world, really. To avoid sensationalizing the Birmingham result any more than it has been already, over the duration of our last 7 games, Newcastle have let 18 goals in.
Bring. back. Bramble.
Which new full-backs would you like to see in a black and white shirt? Does anyone still have confidence that Ramage will make it? Given our resources and current status, do we need to sacrifice goals at the back to keep scoring up front? Can this all be attributed to having eleven out of a oragami-paper-thin squad out injured? WHAT DO -YOU- THINK?

Well Roeder will have to get the best out of what little we have available as I dont think we are going to see any new faces before the end of Jan, which I find disgusting when you consider the position we are in. It also wouldnt surprise me if Emre exits before wednesday night. If Roeder/Shepherd want to achieve anything other than a relegation scrap they better get thier arse`s in gear. PRONTO!!!!

I seen an interesting fact that scotty parker has more tackles won then any other player in the prem by about 20 tackles and hes been injured.
Sometimes i see him though and he really does look like a headless chicken just running from player to player, one things for certain him and butt cant sit in the middle together, either dyer has to be along side one of them or emre when fit. And the way parker and butt are both playing at the moment id have to pick nicky butt.
Also interesting i think weve played alot worse since parker has returned from injury. Is the same gonna happen when duff and bramble and shola return, will we see a repeat to the start of the season b4 the youngsters had to come to the rescue.

greg you need to calm down man
who cares if carr is 30 i always see him as a brilliant player sure when shearer was 32 he played really well.
against west ham is a lost of crap because we ment to beat them two nil or something like that but we did good anyway when we were 2 down we know that we need to try and focus on the ball not the players, if u look at the players so long you will end up losing the ball and let them score a goal
im not really hapy at the first half but the sendon i think it went well but still we need to focus at the next game.
go on newcastle bring on what you got

sorry can you translate, I only speak english.

Newcastle have been letting in goals. As we have know,Newcastle defence is always the weakest and problem have not been solve since Bobby Robson era.
From the look at it,we indeed need 2 world class defender if Newcastle want to show there are in the class of other top performance.
I can see that managers had been introducing youngster to fill the gap but there is still a long way to be in the top flight.
This transfer window, really hopr Roeder buy in some Big name defenders rather than midfileder and strikers since these area are doing fine.
We know that newcastle is a attacking team. It’s time we focus on the back.Hunington,Ramage, and the rest still got a long way to learn to be in the top league.

totally agree carr was past it when we bought him, and even worse now!
suprised no ones mentioned the fact that captain scotty was embarrasing. labouring after reo coker and again diving around on his arse trying to get the crowd to love him for his die hard attitude, not good enough, im afraid.
thought milner again was the best player, and edgar gave a good showing whenhe came on.

yeh carr is crap end of discussion, and why aint we playing bernard, i mean they says hes not match fit, but how long does it take seriously…
Perhaps hes crap now, but hes gotta be better than the left backs we tried already
Sent in on: January 24th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
Carr is utterly rubbish, plays with NO heart, and deserves no place in the club!
Sent in on: January 24th, 2007 at 11:24 am
Calm down, im not angry just merely stating the carr is no good, not only is he no good he also doesnt give 100% , well thats what it looks like anyway.

well the empty seat merchants turned up again ,there is now a clear divide in the stands between the lads with real passion and the piss poor fair weather fans ,myself i choose not to give them the time of day or listen to their crap comments on carr or ramage etc because with fans like them the carrs and ramages are never gonna make it at st james are they!,the match ,after 20 minutes i thought it was gonna be 5 nil to west ham but ramages departure turned out to be a blessing in disguise with the introduction of edgar ,maybe in a years time he will be touted at 11 million like davies?,in the end we were very unlucky to not take all three points by more than a one goal win,i,ll settle for the point tho purely for the sake of the west ham fans ,best support in london ..plus i love going to upton park!

I don’t think any world class player -left back or otherwise - worth his salt would sign in January. Common put yourself in their position.
With the injuries we’ve had - that was our 20th different back line as Roeder pointed out - it’s no wonder we’ve started having defensive problems now. But it will get better. So instead of signing another Boumsong I say patience is a virtue…
I have no problem with our centre backs till the end of the season, I would worry more about having to put centre backs into left back and to keep having to change things around. It’s clear we have no young left back who is ready for premiership football, otherwise why play Huntington, Edgar, Carr etc there?
And with young inexperienced players, you are going to have bad days, and good days too. But if you never play games you won’t learn from your mistakes and won’t ever become a good player. They are human after all not Gods, they make mistakes, have off days, and it’s a good to see whether they can learn from it. How else will you ever know if they are good enough? How many more players must we release from their contracts without giving them a proper chance? We need to place a bit more faith in them.
I know what you’re going to say. A club like Newcastle shouldn’t need to rely on young players, and we should be challenging for the champions league. Well we did that and it didn’t really take us forward long term.
People said you could never win anything with kids - until Man U won the league with Scholes Beckham Neville etc.
These young players deserve their chance in the current situation. It’s all good for us in the long run. I really feel we have some stars in the making. We have new blood already, do you really want to change the team again? No thanks. I’d rather lose games and get through until the summer. The money from wages and signings whether loan fees or otherwise could be put to better use in the summer.
I just don’t believe we will go through next season with the same kind of injury list. So we’re just talking about 1 or 2 quality defenders in the summer, and yes a left back on loan would be beneficial to the squad as a whole for the time being.

This season has been a crazy mixture of wonerful and awful, but apart from maybe Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, I think that most teams can say that.
Aside from the horrorshow FA Cup game, I do believe that GR has brought far more positives than Souness ever brought us though: real team spirit, no moaning when we get injuries, Milner and Butt (who I personally believed in) back into the fold big style, we have a lot of youngsters coming through (at least some look to have a good future)….etc.
I’d love to see us buy two quality full-backs, though wouldn’t we all. We often look very fragile and ride our luck a lot, but at least we now have the attacking outlet to make things happen for us.
Two full-backs with real quality and presence, Owen back and a fit squad (or mostly fit) and results like the Brum one could seem a very distant memory.

Overall I suppose you have to be happy with a point.
After the much pretictable pre-match huddle, the start we made was awful, simply awful. We carried on where we left off against Birmingham.
We couldn’t find a black and white shirt with a pass, we looked fragile and all over the place.
I felt we made an extremely average West Ham side look like world beaters, everytime they attacked they looked dangerous, a side who had previously waited 888 minutes for an away goal.
Our defending for both goals, especially the second was shocking. Enough said on that one.
Towards the end of the first half we came into a litte bit more, we starting doing the simple things right, i.e pass the ball to someone on your own team. Milners goal has been subject to a lot of contreversy, but even if Parker had not been there would the keeper had stopped it? I doubt it. By the way their keeper annoyed me and the majority of the crowd with his antics yesterday.
Second half we started a lot better and we began to apply a bit of pressure. Edgar was on for Ramage and I felt he had a decent game alongside Hunts. However at the same time West Ham still looked dangerous at the other end.
Once the pen went in I felt we would go on and win it, Martins had some decent efforts but their keeper was equal to them. All the stuff we were doing seemed to be down the right with Milner, O’Brien could have tested them a little more but nevertheless I felt he done okay for us.
Parkers performance flattered to deceive, he made some decent challanges but he still dosen’t look fully fit, Butt was average at best.
Dyer worked hard but seemed to be hitting a brick wall in the end, Martins imporved 100% in the second half.
Overall we done well to get it back to 2-2, but any competent premiership on thier home turf would have dispatched West Ham yesterday.

glad to get a point after wednesdays horror show.we showed good spirit in coming back and getting a result.
once again jimmy milner was impressive and we have to keep hold of this lad.
edgar played well when he came on and on another day oba would have got a few.
rammy looked poor again and it just goes to show we need a good solid experienced centre back who can steady the young uns and hopefully help bring them through.campbell would have been great but at the moment i dont know who we can go for.
i would like to see a new left back and centre back coming in hopefully.i think given the money which we probably havent got i would like to see heinze and upson but if its a case of no money then warnock would be good for left back and neill can play anyway along the back line.as for centre back who knows!!!

Re yesterday’s game
Had to laugh at this from the Chron. Missing the real action as usual.
“Milner did look offside when he latched on to Solano’s long pass but still managed to belt home from outside the box to beat Carroll and net his second goal is as many games”
The interesting point they have made, is that Roeder has been knocked back in wanting to sign on loan one of Arsenal’s army of youth squad players, due to the fact that Arsene Wenger thought him not ready for the hurly burly of the prem. We of course had no such luxury. The lads who have come in have all done a good job. Ramage has faded a bit, though to be fair to him he has had this hamstring problem for a couple of weeks now, no doubt reducing his mobility. In Taylor’s absence he has become the senior pro amongst the centre halves we have (half) fit. Who could of imagined either that or Huntington and Edgar being our centre half pairing at the start of the season?
I still don’t know if we need to sign a big money / reputation centre half. Of those who are fit or will be fit at some time this season we have
Bramble / Ramage / Taylor / Huntington / Edgar
Forget that. We do !! :0)
If we manage to get two good’uns for the long term from that bunch. I’ll be happy
We desperately need to sort out the full back situation having a right footed midfielder playing right fullback and the right footed, often unreported fifth teletubby playing left back (every one say caaarrrrrrr), is certainly no good.
Any other pretenders to the left back role have been obliterated from by mind.
Some good will come of this season. We will have blooded some youngsters and maybe find out which ones are going to make it at the very top level, thus identifying definitively where we require the new signings. Of course whether we manage to bag these elusive new players is another thing altogether

It was a good enough match, next time we play West Ham though someone remind Roeder to wrap Shay Given in bubble wrap or cotton wool or something. Atleast he hobeled off this time though. Hope he’s not out for long. That’s all we need. Besides that, good enough match overall. The lads did well to fight back. Should we of won, ya but looking back at Weds I’ll take the point.
Sent in on: January 21st, 2007 at 10:44 am
overall i thought it was generally ok yesterday. yes before kick off we should have won it but going 2-0 down in 25mins, then the injury to ramage gave them the preverbial kick up the arse they needed.
david edgar, he was calm and commanding at the back and seemed to have the calming influence on hunty which he needed.
steven carr, started a bit hesitantly but in the second half he got in a few decent challenges and started to help o’brien down the wing.
i would have liked to have seen dyer involved more, and oba had his moments. but yet again milner was magnificent, clawing us back from nowhere with the goal before half time, then we finally got the rub of the green with the penalty, what the hell was boa morte thinking!.
once it got to 2-2 it could have went either way, we stepped off the pace a bit then west ham had the goal disallowed.
1 point is better than no points is the way i see it.
duff, babayaro, taylor(back from suspension i think) and bramble might be back on wednesday! so theres light at the end of the tunnel.
i would still like a couple of signings but by the sounds of it, it’s only going to be loans.
anyways
keep the faith!

Milner is player of the season so far, can’t fault the lads performance or attitude. In terms of players in I would love Wayne Bridge and Paul Knochesky - not out of our reach I don’t think!! Glenn really needs to stop talking about his transfer policies as some unknown and groundbreaking science - Just sign some decent players, even it is short term!!!
ramage deserves no praise, it was a matter of time before he was found out, he is not a premiership player!
Sent in on: January 21st, 2007 at 10:19 am
ramage is a solid pro
we shud keep him, he is a decent player
but he’s not a leader, he cant cope wiv the pressure
he needs a steadyin hand
but he does work well with taylor (generally)

If Warnock does indeed go to Blackburn then I will be very, very annoyed. Every good player we’re linked with, that wretched man Alan Oliver writes off as not being a target for Glenn Roeder. Either;
A)Glenn needs to realise that he isn’t going to sign the the best left back and best centre back in the country for the cheapest price ever
or
B)Alan Oliver doesn’t know sh*t
I’m getting seriously frustrated by all the good players we’re linked with being written off in the chronicle. We’ve missed out on Huth, Campbell, Woodgate, Neill it now seems, and probably Warnock now. All of which could form a very good backline, or a very good backline mixed with our current players, Taylor for example. We at last need a defender with a left foot to speak of. And Carr and Babayaro need to go, Carr sounded like he had a shocker today, despite playing left back.
I understand that Glenn doesn’t want to watse money and given our previou manager that is ihly commendable, but he is missing out on some very, very good short term fixes. If we don’t have the money, then we certainly would have had next season, as signing Campbell on a free would have probably put us in a very good position to qualify for the UEFA cup this season, gien the impact he has made at Portsmouth. Rant over, get a move on Glenn.

The offside goal was a bit of a joke. West Ham have reason to be upset me thinks.

i think were screwed, we wont sign anyone worth any merit, the club has absolutly no money & we have a second rate manager and a chairman, well i dont need to comment on how bad he is
Sent in on: January 21st, 2007 at 12:17 am
I’m annoyed that we drew with a side that are (I think) second bottom in the Premiership, but happy that we fought back from being 2 goals down.
I like Ramage, and he has had some good/excellent games, but has also had some poor games. I hope he sorts it out.
Sent in on: January 20th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
negatives.
Point 1. Ramage was at fault for both goals today
Point 2. Ramage is scared of a football at his own feet
Point 3. Thank god Ramage was injured after half an hour
Point 4. Carr is a fat lazy b*stard
Positives.
Point 1. Edgar was my man of the match, calm, assured very well played
point 2. We created enough chances to win and two attempts off the woodwork plus obas couple strikes would have made it a good day
point 3. The maturity and progress of James Milner, keep hold of him he’s a gem for the future
Conclusion
should have won, could have lost in the end and especially after Wednesday I’ll take the point

Just been to the BBC website. Is it me or do Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp only give interviews when they don’t lose? Just seems a bit pathetic to me, for two premiership managers who have big opinions and even bigger egos. Roeder talks to the press almost every time.
