Some Kind Words from Fergie - Newcastle 2-2 Manchester United
By Jonny Hall On Mon 1 Jan 2007 |
Newcastle earned a point on New Years Day against Machester United with stunning goals from James Milner and David Edgar cancelling out two Paul Scholes strikes. Milner had given United the lead but this was equalled by Scholes just before the break and then 20 seconds into the second half, Scholes struck again.
With 18 minutes left of play, making his home debut for Newcastle, 19 year old David Edgar hit a shot from 25 yards out and after taking a deflection, the ball beat Edwin Van Der Sar. After the game, Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for the Magpies as he told Sky Sports News:
“We missed a stack of chances but you have to admire the character and spirit of the Newcastle team,”
“They deserved a point without question. We had three cleared off the line so that was a bit unlucky.
“Then we went and missed two or three good chances. When you are creating chances you hope you are doing enough to win the match and we should have won the match.
“We didn’t play as well as we have been because Newcastle didn’t allow us to play. I’ve nothing but praise for them.”
Well done to Edgar for a truly special goal; may it be the first of many.

Edgar has since been demoted back into the reserves but no matter how Roeder treats Edgar he can never take away his performance that day against Man Utd with every manager in the country watching. Good luck david !!

It’s great to read all the positive reports on the Toon’s heroic performance against Man.Utd-Edgar’s goal even made headlines here in Australia! And i agree with all that’s been written about ‘Nobby’ Solano-a real team player.
Let’s hope ‘we’ can put in another spirited performance against a resurgent B’ham City.

Fair play to Edgar, still wondering how he got man the match though. Nobby looking good at right back, we need a centre and left back and push Ramage into more of a right back. I like what I hear about Joey Barton having a clause saying you can buy him for more than £5m.
Things look bright fair play to the lads..

How good was this: I was sat in a room with loads of Man U fans and me being the only Toon fan there and we drew!! Hahaha! They were all pretty annoyed but I was chearing so much because they were expecting Man U to hammer us!!
What a result, well done lads! Oh yeah and we need some good players in! I really would like to see Jermaine Defoe in a black and white shirt!!
Howay the lads.

Ya, they all did really well. Solano had a good game so did Parker and Given, they all were good. The back 4 really stuck at it. They all did, they hung on til the end and deserved the draw.

The match was broadcast ‘live’ here in Australia & I thought their performance was excellent, all things considered. My only concern remains the manager’s reluctance/refusal to play Albert Luque which I guess will mean he’s out the door (or window!) during January. The papers here suggest Newcastle are interested in Mark Viduka & Lucas Neill. While both players would be more than useful additions, Neill would be a brilliant signing as he’s a great defender. And he never tripped that Italian player/diver in Germany, the ref should hang his head in shame for being sucked in!!!!
Off-topic I know, but could someone please tell me why St. James’ Park is called St. James’ Park - thanks!

Everyone deserves credit for the way they played against Man U, but to me one player standing out is Nobby, this guy plays like he was born on Tyneside, give him the credit he his due.
