Are you happy with Kevin Keegan’s return?

A new poll for a new manager, I’d vote “yes” one million times if I could.
Howay the lads! Walking in a Keegan Wonderland!
When I was a boy I saw a black and white shirt with a beautiful blue star and a silhouette of a city on it at a sports store in Melbourne, I was intrigued, a year or so later I found out that my grand father was a Geordie and then a little after that I was allowed to stay up late enough to watch the Premier League highlights show on the telly, it was on!!!
On December 16 1995 as a 16 year old I was lucky enough to sit at the Gallowgate end and watched as Les Ferdinand scored the only goal against Everton, we went well clear at the top that night, and the drive back to Morpeth squashed between the towns butchers included the loudest most passionate singing I’ve ever heard.
2002/03 I was working for a Liverpool season ticket holder in the Lakes District, he told me there was a spare ticket for the game at Anfield, in the Kop far away from where he was sitting and a million miles from all my Toon Army. Two goals down things were grim and the amount of rot I could hear was incredible. Speed then Shearer right at the death! I held my camera up and pointed it behind my head and took a shot of them all in tears!!! It was time to leave.
And last but by no means least I drove from one side of the country to the other to watch us come from behind to down Dynamo Kiev and keep the dream of second round qualification alive, and it lived. Every infiltrator to this website try to remember the last time you lived dreams like that…
So with the news that King Kevin is back I felt the hormone seeping from the gland that only the Toon Army possess, it went straight to my head and a little to my heart and I’ve began to dream again, properly. Five days ago I put up a t-shirt design on ebay for Keegan and Shearer to come back, I felt it then and now its half way real!!!
When I get up at 4am to watch the Bolton game I want to see singing, dancing and smiling, the way it used to be and the way it will now always be!!!
Howay the Lads!!!!!!!!

Surprised by two things, obviously that Keegan is back, but even more amazed at the amount of drivel written by so called opposing fans (if you can call them that).
As a Newcastle fan I have never even thought about posting a comment on a opposing fans website/forum. How can you make a constructive comment on a club you have no affiliation with? Or is it possible that you read the dross that’s written by so called reporters and allow it to influence your opinions and thought processes?
Either way continue supporting your own teams and weļl continue being the best fans in the land.
Ha’way the lads.

Andy G quote: “Why is it other fans come on here and try to mock us for not giving Allardyce time?”
Can’t speak for all other fans but so far as MCFC fans go we can sympathize with your plight. The two clubs are not dissimilar, i.e.
Proud history/Been crap for years/Massive following/Fans love attacking football/True to our origins - hate scummy cockneys, scouse scallies, thicko brummies and Manure.
And don’t forget we’ve had the little Donnie Messiah as supremo - lovely guy but not a clue about the modern game at the top level. Worse, a quitter who will get more and more depressed then leave you to wallow in the sh1t when the going gets rough.
Toon - respect!

My cousin Tim-Pat who lives in Altrincham, South Manchester said Keggy was spied 3 nights ago in a pub in the nearby ‘footballer’s heaven’ of Bowdon. Apparently he kept looking at his watch and frowning as though he was waiting for someone. At some point he got out his mobile, walked out of the pub and didn’t come back.
So… possibility that Kev is playing away from home and got stood up. Alternative is that his yesteryear employee Richard Dunne (said to be in dispute with City over contract negotiation) lives just down the road.
Could this mean that little Micky Sicknote (who has gone into print saying Keegan is a complete tosser) is on his bike. We know Svennis wants (and bloody needs) a striker. Owen for Dunne? Straight swap or a few bob coming City’s way?

I was hoping for a world class manager.
For some reason, I can’t take the smile off my face at Keegan getting the job instead.
The toon rollercoaster is one hell of a ride.

Why is it other fans come on here and try to mock us for not giving Allardyce time? Did they witness what we did?
There was no progress, his tactics were woeful, and yes we know that success doesn’t come overnight, but with the players we had, we should have been doing a lot better and not putting in gutless performances against teams like Derby.
I wish Allardyce had got it right, but the fact is there was no progress being made, and he was very lucky that we weren’t actually beat by Stoke when he was still in charge.
As for KK coming in, it will give the whole club a much needed boost in confidence. Everyone goes on about him in the past, but it is exactly that, IN THE PAST. Hopefully he has changed the negative things from his past, maybe he hasn’t. But the only way we are going to find out is to give him a chance!
Think about it, would you have preferred Redknapp or KK? I know which I’d have prefered, and I for one am glad he is back.

This is Crazy, stupid, mental, and above all a massive massive gamble. So why have i been jumping around since 4.20 last night with a huge grin on my face??
We wont win nothing, but admit it its gunna be one hell of a ride. Cant wait for the Bolton game, THE ROOF WILL COME OFF!!!

Oh dear. Just when I thought Newcastle couldn’t possibly become more ridiculous.
I’ve always thought Geordies weren’t the brightest of people but I must say you lot must be totally stupid.
All this crap about Newcastle being a huge club, I find laughable… What is that based on exactly? Ha please! Not winning a domestic trophy for 50 odd years is a joke just like the ‘We’d rather lose 5-4 than win 1-0 crap’. That’s basically why Newcastle are a nothing club, a laughing stock and will never win anything!
Wake up, KK won NOTHING at Newcastle. He spent millions and won nothing just like he did at Man City. He walked out for God’s sake! Times have changed and I’m sorry but it’s going to be made embarrassingly clear that Keegan is a poor manager with poor tactics.
‘Toon Army’? Grow up, supposedly the best fans in the world (according to yourselves haha). You lot are the worst fans I’ve ever seen, you are your own downfall..the hatred and bile directed towards Allardyce was appalling. I don’t know why their is this expectation at Newcastle, you don’t have a divine right to win anything! Once you lot realise this and actually get behind a decent manger, then and only then will Newcastle be in with a shout of winning any silverware.
Ashley should have had a backbone and appointed his own manager, not being told what to do by the fans who obviously haven’t got a clue.
Well I’ll just sit back and enjoy watching Newcastle slip further behind the rest, becoming more and more of a joke!
Good luck, you’ll be needing it!

Some of this dewy-eyed Geordieness really does grasp at the very fringes of reality. Yes, he’s a lovely lad and all that and yes you will enjoy some champagne moments with Joey and Smiffy leading a 10 man charge towards the goal of some shell-shocked opponent. Equally you can look forward to the arrival of some megoliths of the modern game whom although a tad close to their sell-by dates will still fire the imagination for a brief and captivating moment.
Lamentably I suspect that the moment will be just that and rather like the glittering gift box from my Aunty Millie, when all the wrapping and tinsel is removed there’s only ever a rather sad pair of socks inside.
Still by that stage Hansen’s punditry pal will have amassed the requisite number of coaching badges and can take his place as the rightful heir to the KingKev turtle neck anorak.
In truth I hope it works out for you guys. Most proper Blues are quite keen on you for some odd reason. But start sniffing around any of our back 4 (they’re the defenders, Mr.K) and we’ll be quite cross.

Ok, after seeing the “Keegan fever” last night I’m starting to warm to this.
Its created a buzz around our club that’s been missing for a long time. And anything that recreates that buzz and raises morale in such a way is welcome!

The morning After.
Still smiling. Looking forward to the rest of the season. Much happier than if Shearer had got it. These are two opposites who don’t even speak to each other. One positive heart on sleeve the other niggly and negative.
Long term I’m not sure of KK’s appointment. Hope that he can work with the board to put a backroom in place that builds for the future. Whatever Big sams failings on the pitch I think he would have built the club side well.
Can’t see how it develops in the future, but I’ll enjoy the ride again.

Oh blimey, this is one out of the blue for me I must admit. Nice to talk about his return, and I am sure there will be fun and excitement ahead, but I really do worry about his tactical awareness and especially our defence. Every new manager has said they would address this particular area, and to be honest, each and every one of them has failed to do so. Now our favourite adopted son is back, what chance is there that this trend will continue?
I was rather looking forward to having someone like Houllier or Deschamps at the helm, with a bit of a proven pedigree to give us at least the look of respectability following the last few years of murder and mayhem, but then again, that’s I guess that’s not what we follow Toon for. I jumped on the bandwagon after watching the Fairs Cup win, and have been hooked ever since, so roll of King Kev, and lets have a few more years of breathtaking ‘almost did it’. After all, it’s much better that the stuff we’ve had for the last few years.
It’s still a big mistake though, but what the heck!

Insanity thy name is Newcastle United.
Needed master tactician.
Received supreme “short-term” motivator.
Needed modern vision of the game.
Received retro throw-back classic rock.
Needed knowledge of new generation of players
Received out-of-sight out-of-mind
Needed brilliant eye for talent
Received demands for endless transfer kitty
Needed developer of players/youth
Received give me the veterans
Ashley and Mort did a terrible job handling the dismissal of Big Sam. I think they messed up the next step forward. Will we be in the same place two years from now? I hope not.
Howay the lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the players we’ve got are really good, they just had no confidence, they weren’t enjoying themselves, and they felt the pressure more because of it. With a proper Geordie hero at the helm, they’ll really start to understand what we’re all about and they’ll enjoy themselves more and become more confident.
That’s how I reckon it’ll be. I’m pretty excited! Cannae stop smiling!

I was at a reception in Dublin tonight.People were promoting Newcastle/Gateshead/Sunderland as a tourist destination.
All the delegates from the region were either blow-in Mancs, Jocks or Cockneys or Mackems, including big Niall.
Anyone know why? Where were the guys from The Toon?
At home celebrating the arrival of the scouse messiah?

Genuinely surprised but I’m glad Keegan’s appointed manager other than someone else. We really need this boost of morale at the moment. What will happen next season? I honestly don’t know but I will have something to look forward to at least for the next four months.

The premiership has changed a bit since the those days when we were everyones second team but if KK can manage to recreate that this time and that won’t be easy and it will take a large transfer pot spent wisely to do this then great - bring it on quality football …….and a heart condition!
The future looks ?????

Quoting Chris Kirk.
“This is a special club and outsiders just dont get it.”
I’m sorry, but this is precisly the reason that Newcastle have failed to win trophies.
You are harking back to a time when Keegan spent a ridiculous amount of money yet won nothing!
He was proven to be tactically inept at Newcastle and he rounded that off at City.
What Keegan can do is attract players to the club, but only well know players, who cost a fortune. You can’t get away with that these days, he proved it at City.
Things have changed! The game is scientific, tactics are meticulously prepared. Keegan is not!
His substitutions, buys, tactics etc were not good enough. In the end he ends up with his head in his hands, sat on the bench, not knowing what to do.
What does Newcastle United want to be? A successful football club? Or a club that is purely representative of the Newcastle and ’sexy football’. Having both is stupidly difficult. You handicap yourselves with this “special club” moniker and put unrealistic aspirations on the players, managers and board.
I mean, you’re still sponsored by a failed bank! Wake up!
This appointment has made Newcastle the laughing stock of the premiership.
It’s the most unimaginative response to a failing club an unrealistic fanbase.
You would have been batter off giving Fat Sam a chance to actually do his job!!!

Insanity!!!!
I have a bad feeling about this.
Unless he is allowed to spend a ridiculous amount on amazing attacking players, we could well be in trouble.
Can you imagine our squad playing “Keegan Style” with the current crop of players?!?!
Sent in on: January 16th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
CRAZY
appointing Keegan, desperation, the guy walked out years ago as the man city supporter said he throws his toys out of the pram.
and as far as Shearer goes if the fans give other people a chance and stop winging on about shearer they might win something.
Yes he was a good player, but petulant’ another one who liked his own way.
It is about time that the way these players are paid in all teams was changed, they should be on a set wage and if they perform well then they get a bonus.
These players at the toon have no interest, why should they’ they still get thousands if they do well or not “ridiculous”
Is it not time that the supporters boycotted a few games and let the board and the new owner let them know how they really feel. Or are they just a load of sheep.
I atttended all of the matches when the won the fairs cup and still have the programmes, they were wonderful days.
Sent in on: January 16th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Whoa that’s weird, just woke up, on comes the sports news and thru it comes Keegan is the new manager at Newcastle………oh well must be dreaming….no it’s 6:00 am…feck me what did the news say !!!!
Not too sure, then why am I grinning like the proverbial Cheshire Cat
KK knows us and understands us, he will motivate the dressing room and ensure that this year does not become the train wreck it was heading to be, MA is sure to back him in the transfer market but I see that as being in the summer, so there is 5 months for the players to perform
Does he need an assistant…yes…so go the whole hog and get AS and let us start setting up a hand over from coach to coach to coach (ad infinitum)
Feel weird but strangely happy

The appointment of Keegan has already galvanised the toon army and brought a massive lift to the place and the man isn’t even on Tyneside.
Brilliant move by Mort and Ashley to announce the second coming of the messiah before tonights match…..the game wasn’t sold out but probably will be now
I for one am waiting to see what Keegan can do, if he can create even half of the euphoria that once was newcastle united, then he will be a legend once again!!!

Bunch of plonkers.
Kevin Keegan is a joke. Here’s a man who hasn’t watched a game since Joey Barton was a juvenile delinquent, viz: “Former England boss Kevin Keegan says he is unlikely to manage a team again.
Keegan, 56, stepped down from his last job as Manchester City manager in March 2005 and now runs interactive football attraction Soccer Circus in Glasgow.
“I don’t think it will happen,” he told BBC One’s Inside Sport. “I think my life has gone in a different direction.
“You never know, I mean I do get offers to go back into football, but I made a decision that I would come and do something different with my life.”
He added: “I mean I haven’t watched a game of football, I mean live, since my last game at Manchester City and I can’t even remember what game that was now.”
That was Keggy, 3 days ago.
Anyhow, here’s a quiz for you cock-eyed optimists:
1. Number of hours before Keggy gets photographed by the Daily Vile, wearing a Barcode shirt?
2. Number of days before he says “I’m Lovin’ it”?
3. Number of weeks before he is seen, head in anorak, doing his well-known impression of a terminally-depressed tortoise?
4. Number of months before Newcastle are certain to be relegated?
Four correct answers wins you a stick of genuine northern rock
Sorry guys but you’d have been better off with Fat Sam. We had KK as manager; we know.

As a man city season ticket holder I have seen the beauty and the beast in having keegan as your manager. The beauty is he automatically inspires everyone at the beginning and plays exciting football and gives the club and players a great lift. The beast- sorry but he gets bored of managing and can’t handle the pressure and throws his toys out of the pram!. As such loyal fans you deserve a lot better and your board has treated you with contempt. However, enjoy the rush while you can. You will pick up points with keegan factor- just hope your board support him. Finally, get rid of Barton. The guy’s a clown and not funny either! He’ll bring your club down.
