Your Shout: Newcastle Utd 0-0 Middlesbrough - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Sat 3 Mar 2007 |
The St. James’ Park faithful witnessed Newcastle beat their heads against a wall in what was ultimately a fairly stale goalless draw with a Middlesbrough side who travelled up intent on playing for a point. Real creativity was found somewhat lacking, and frustration all too familiar, as Newcastle dropped another two points at home.
Was there much Roeder could have done to have secured the win? What did you make of Milner and N’Zogbia? Were you impressed with the back line? What of the front two? Who should start from now on? Have your say!

Glenn ready is to be congratulated for steadying the ship after the disastrous reign of Souness. However, despite that he is not the man to take Newcastle forward.

It was an awful game and i want to have a dig at the players and manager but its already been said, but one of the big probs is that there is so much negativity surrounding the club, who knows how much it effects players? i think the atmosphere needs to change at home games, ive paid for me season ticket like many others and we aint gonna get a refund, i know its so disheartening what we have to watch but lets get the atmoshpere going again like what SJP is meant to be known for as this surely can only help the team.

Crap? Yes. Frustrating? Yes. Suprising? No.
This is the result of a cluless manager, and an incompetent chairman….. Zzzzzzzzzzzz…..
Roeders a nice guy, but utterly crap at being a top-flight manager. He has no clue of tactics. Never picks Luque…. Etc… Zzzzzzzzz….
Shepherds just a damn moron and seems unable to see hes cack at his job. He seems to think hes done a great job and is giving us what we want by having taken us back a few millon light-years in the last few years…. Zzzzzz…..
I’m getting sick of writing the same thing every week.
The time for revolution is now or we will die.
Lets get rid of these two bafoons NOW

My biggest issue watching the game was the absence of a target man for the crosses that were coming from the wings. I acctually think it affected the game of Millner and Zogy cause they had to look twice and make sure they didn’t put the ball in too high. I shocked to see Sib come on for Millner cause i thought it would have been much better to take off Butt or Parker then drop Dyer to midfield and let Sib play alongside Martins. Lets not forget the good run we had was when Butt was playing the holding role by himself and giving freedom to Dyer to roam. The manager needs to make risky moves and not play it safe all the time. We are not in trouble of going down and we sure don’t seem to be shooting up the table so i would have liked to see some risk taking in his substitutions.
Oh well here is to dreaming….

The game never got out of first gear, found N’Zogbia a major disappointment, nowhere near fully fit didn’t seem to have the confidence to run and beat his man at speed like he was before the injury.

From the highlights it seems like Parker and Butt played really well together, maybe they aren’t a lost cause as a pair.

I don’t necessarily buy the lineup, but I think there are some overly harsh reactions here. For me, there wasn’t enough pressure on Boro given how things were proceeding on the other end (Yakubu and Viduka being manhandled out of the game). Who to blame? Seemed Dyer was way too quiet - seemed MIA as an outlet for runs of Milner and N’Zogbia. Those two were lacking final balls. Maybe could have been more aggressive on subs. Any other complaints? For me, not really. I think they win that same game 80% of the time. Overall, a still-depleted team with a new back four shut out a relatively potent strike force and earned a pretty solid point (while deserving the three). I’m not sure if calls for heads is warranted on this day.

Come on guys, it was a bad game, but you cant diss roeder, with the mega long injury list we have. Next season will be a different story (hopefully). All we need is a quality CB, RB and MF then we on way. Can you imagine what would have been if Owen and Martins had stayed fit and played together with Dyer behind? How much pace can you have in the team? I think Roeder has dun a great job and long may it continue…… until bobby robson comes back that is!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming out of the Gallowgate End, I was stunned to hear two blokes describing this as the worst game of football they’d ever seen and that they didn’t even regard what we’d been doing as playing football.
It was pretty bad but not that bad: we were worse last week at Wigan.

I actually feel Roeder is doing a pretty good job, who knows where we will be if Souness was still managing us.
I would imagine Roeder has gone away thinking we lacked the cutting edge in that game, but he seems to be building a stable side and maybe another season or so, we may well be pushing for champions league spot again, but I would say not to expect to much to quickly as it is not possible. I hope & believe Roeder will build a great squad like he is beginning to. I feel we may need a player like Robert that could change a game in an instant and is always a crowd pleaser. On their day we could win any game (4-3 man u, 3-1 arsenal, few examples of what Robert helped us).

Terrible game to watch with both back four’s looking solid. A couple of questions that id love Mr Roeder “shuffle” to answer though. Why is it that when opposition teams clear the ball from the box and push out our two quickest players ie Dyer and Martins can not bother there £40,000 a week backsides to get onside? Secondly use the 50,000 crowd. Too many times we do not get after teams in the first ten minutes and the enthusiam from the crowd dwindles? Today we did not start until the second half and thought boro would tire. The game lasts for 2 x 45mins lads. Maybe we can have a 50% reduction in our season tickets come June Mr Sheperd!

yeh i thank Roeder greatly for saving us after souness but hes never ever shown that he is capable of getting us back to the top and i dont think the players beleive he can either.

I’ve said from day one Roeder has to go, tactically inept, took Milner of ridiculous decision, can’t motivate or attract players, poor track record as a manager. We are going nowhere with him, get rid.

Piss poor. The fact of the matter is we are a very average side. We need to win on Thursday to have a chance of progressing. We won’t though. I just hope we avoid an embarrassment. N’Zogbis was poor and looked well short of match fitness. He will surely improve but he should have been taken off after 60-70 minutes today. Woodgate was excellent as expected and Parker was the best player on the field. Overall an awful game.

Yes, not very exciting at all, but a point is better than nothing as nothing is what we usually get from these types of games. With the players we have there should be no problem in creating chances, but it seems to be the problem. I have yet to see the match yet however, so im just assuming on what ive heard and seen in statistics. Surely the uefa game on thursday will be good, as AZ seem to be a very technical team, lets hope not to good for newcastle. We might need the post and given to play well though however.

boro came up here for a point. it was a midfielder game in which parker and butt both played defensively. milner played with his heart on his sleeve even though he never seemed to get passed the last man, and charlie was back probably a little bit too early. the contentious issue is that i dare too say that tius bramble had a good game

Quite possibly the worst game of football I have ever seen in my life. Two poor teams lacking in creativity and ideas. With players like Dyer, Martins, Milner and N’Zogbia we should be playing fast flowing, attractive football. I hate to say it because I think Roeder is a good guy, but there needs to be a change in personnel if this club is to move foward again.
