Your Shout: Charlton 2-0 Newcastle Utd - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Sun 18 Mar 2007 |
There’s no easy way out as Newcastle fashioned another lifeless performance that will no doubt be lost amongst innumerable others, falling, as they did, to a Zheng Zhi header and a Jerome Thomas penalty at the Valley.
What went wrong this time? What can be done? What replacements would you like to see? How long will it be before Newcastle are where you want them to be? Where should our expectations be at right now? What do you hope for this season? You’ve seen the cloud, can you see the silver? Have your say.

and the toon have got a nerve to charge 40 to 50 quid to watch a bunch of clueless lazy panheeds why do the fans keep turning up to watch the same shit every week.there is got to be a time when enough is enough and to start voting with their feet.it worked when we got rid of jack charlton.the toon just seem to put up with it.shephard knows they will turn up and buy the season passes and the shirts religously.ie still making more money from the masses he is not going nowhere.

i really dont know where to start.
i wasnt at the game on saturday and so i cant really comment but the overall performances have been spineless. the thing that particularly upsets me is that people have shown they CAN do it…how many times have you stuck up for titus when another supported says hes shit and you say ‘’he CAN b amazing, ive seen it with my own eyes'’?
were we not absolutely RAVING about scott parkers performances at the start of the season backing him for england duty and singing his praises?
do we not think that steven taylor has the potential to play for england at CB one day, and that he is potentially one of the only toon players who could play for the big 4?
when charlie nzogbia burst on the scene were we not saying we have the french ryan giggs?
when oba martins scores 6 in 7 games, are we not backing his cause that ‘on his day’ he is one of the top in the prem?
these are just some examples, there are many more, such as duff, dyer (on occasion), milner.
the thing that also bothers me is that when you look at teams like tottenham, who id say have similar personnel to us, albeit the difference in berbatov, their movement at the moment is fantastic, they play at a faster pace than us, and they all interchange in terms of position. when i watch nufc, duff STICKS to the left, kieron or milner STICK to the right, scotty and butt STICK to the centre.
one thing we have definitely struggled to find is the centre middfield partnership since the days of gary speed and kieron dyer. scott parker is a great player, i cant believe some of the stick he has been given. bt emre, nicky butt, and kieron dyer (though i am his biggest fan) are the right answer to partner him, mainly for the reason , because they are too small. being 5′ 8′’ myself, i often argue size doesnt matter, but ultimately it does it a centre midfield, and when you have scott and belo playin in there, they have a combined height of about 11 foot, which is just too small and subtle, yet major problem for the toon is the winning of second balls in the middle of the park.
defensively we are a shambles, and after protesting to friends that taylor is ‘the real deal’ i am becoming increasingly worried about his development. this summer, i would love us to bring in either bridge or baines, wes brown, and maybe even lucas neill if the hammers go down..if anton ferdinand signs however i might just give up on roeder right there and then cuz he is rubbish!!!
with regards to the management situation, its almost a ‘damage limitations’ scenario. lets face the facts, roeder is not going to be manager in 3/4 years time, is there any point in giving him 30 million? then again some may argue in the injury circumstances weve experiecned this season he has done a good job and deserves the same backing as all his predecessors. to be honest im on the fence. i like roeder, the way he talks (apart from his recent excuses) is good, and i do genuinely think he KNOWS what we want and how we want to play football. but theres doubts in my mind whether he can , and whether he thinks he can deliver it.
all i can say is, lets finish the season on a high, and howay the lads

To be quite frank i’m getting sick of the way that other clubs like West Ham, Charlton, Everton, Blackburn are fighting for points in each game and they look like they want to win games, and then there’s newcastle ! We look like we cant be bothered to put the effort in to winning games (Where is the motivation Roeder???).
I’m beginning to get the feeling that our players have lost confidence in Roeders managerial ability and that its time for him to move on. Roeder had never proved himself in professional football in the past, what makes Shappard think he’s going to at newcastle if he stays any longer. When we were winning games we were scrapping luck wins (even at home). I cant remember watching many games this season where we’ve won comfortably.
I think that the current players that we have are of decent quality - but Roeder isnt getting the best from them !! After Man Utd suffer a bad defeat they always bounce back in their next game and win it comfortably. I’m not a fan of Man Utd, but Sir Alex is one of the best managers in the world and this is partially down to his motivational abilities. Roeder, how are you going to motivate your players to bounce back after the last two performances. When are you going to concede and start dropping you favourites (the under performers) and giving some of the other players a chance?
Alex ferguson wouldnt put up with an of his players underperforming like our players are, they’d be dropped/possibly replaced.
If defenders/midfielders/attackers are consistently underperforming and getting a 1st team place week in week out, they’ll keep doing it. We know we are not going to win anything this season so now is the time to start experimenting by playing younger players. You never know, we might unveil the next michael owen/david beckham/Alan Shearer.
Points to take away:
Motivation - bouncing back in the premier league to stun our next opponents
Tactical rethink - Push the midfield higher up the pitch, closer to the attack (this will open up a space between the defence and midfield, thus making more space for defenders to pass the ball about. The defenders need to stop doing the midfields job (playing ball over the top for our attackers).
Player movement (off the ball) - We need to be more attacking !!! The amount of times i’ve seen spaces open up in the final third of the field for players to move in (i’ve lost count). Attackers (Martins) need to drop off at times to support the midfield on an attacking move. Martins needs to be more active and trying to loose him marker while we’re attacking.
We need to get more players in and around the box while we are attacking.
We cant change whats happened in the past, so, like all of the faithful who buy season ticket year in year out, we need to look to the future.
Thanks for reading.
Mark

would just like to reply to lincoln.
which emre have you been watching for nearly 2 years , because the one i have seen has scored 3 league goals, been injured half the time, and generally looks slower and weaker than any other player in his position.
we have too many players who look good on paper because of past performances, ie duff, parker, emre, they are simply not good enough anymore and surely anyone looking at their stats for newcastle has to agree. none of them have created or scored many goals and parkers only real contribution is his workrate.
sunday was another shambles, and im really starting to think that mr roeder hasnt got a clue tactically, not to mention the fact that when everyones fit he will always drop nzobbia and milner for butt, emre, parker, duff etc( probably even that clown huntington)who doesnt look as good as edgar in my opinion.
im really tired on nufc on the whole and am sick of people praising parker and emre when statistically they are awful!!!!!!!

Roeder out, top manager in, give him money and a five year plan, desperate for defense creative midfielder and striker (owen and martins will be to simular), at moment not good enough anywhere managment coaching or on the pitch, not looking forward to rest of season or renewing season ticket, in fact starting to not care.

Thank god Emre got cleared of racism that is a massive relief and a major boost for the club and the only bit of good news in what has been a dismal week for the boys. Now hopefully Emre will be a Newcastle for a long time too come and alot more seasons. Emre is a frigin Legend i love you Emre. NUFC 4 LIFE

Roeder should go now… Shepherds probably too stupid to replace him with someone better, but still. There can’t be much worse. I’d take Sven at the moment!
Let us not forget that both Sol Campbell and Jonathan Woodgate wanted to come here ahead of where they are now, and the “master mind” Roeder used his “intelligence” to turn them both down, claiming (for various reasons) they were both past it. And look at them both now!!! Imagine a Newcastle centre back pairing of Woodgate and Campbell! WOW! Well done, Glenn, you muppet.
ROEDER OUT! SHEPHERD OUT!
Sent in on: March 19th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Just having a little think…Looking back Newcastle have had some pretty decent defenders over the last 6 years or so. Ever wandered where we would be now if we’d managed to actually get them all in the same team with Bobby Robson as manager? A back line of Woodgate, Distin, Domi and Helder would be a hell of a lot better than what we’ve got now.
Sent in on: March 19th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
A lot of posts have touched on it…IT’S ALL DOWN TO THE FACT ROEDER ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH. Granted we could do with some quality new signings to straighten up and strenthen a lop sided team, ESPECIALLY THE DEFENCE…..BUT.. and this is a big BUT… Roeder has got our players consistently performing well below par to the point that they think it’s an acceptable standard. EVEN TITUS BRAMBLE AND BABAYARO, AS CRAP AS THEY ARE, CAN PERFORM TO STANDARDS HIGHER THAN ROEDER IS DEMANDING FROM THEM.
Look at Everton, Bolton, Blackburn to name but three of the teams above us fighting for a European place. Do they have players that match the calibre of Martins, Duff, Dyer, Butt, Parker, Milner, N’Zogbia, Solano, Given ??
No they don’t. Then why are they so much higher up the league than us?? Why do they perform so much better than us?? Why are they so much more consistent, hard working, hungry than us???
Because the manager has motivated them and demands performances. No manager or fan can grumble if their side gets beaten because the other team were better on the day, as long as your team gives 110%
and leaves the field with an empty tank. Sadly Roeder can’t even get 10% out of his players because they don’t want to give him more than 10%. He’s lost the fans and he’s lost the players (if he ever had them) and Fat Fred MUST BRING IN A NEW MANAGER NOW. Look at Van Gaal at AZ…Appointed about the same time as Roeder, replaced THE WHOLE TEAM for less than what Roeder payed for Martins. They’re the most attractive footballing side in the Dutch League, they’ve had a winning mentality instilled in them and they give 100% for the club because their manager DEMANDS it.
THAT’S A TOP NOTCH MANAGER.

Well where do you start?. A new back four would be a start, why we didnt get campbell and woodgate is a mystery, well it isnt really as we have a history in not signing the right players. None of our defenders would get in the top six sides and that includes taylor who clearly thinks he is better than he is. Duff isnt the he was or isnt being coached and managed correctly, butt looks a better option than parker in the middle(so much for our captain), sib isnt upto it and martins needs six chances to put one away plus he has poor control and no vision. The only two players who deserve to be in our team are given and milner based on effort and commitment. We need a manager who is tactically aware and savvy in the transfer market, roeder aint it so lets ship him out now!!. We wont get relegated and we wont get europe so get someone in for the last 8 games who can judge our rabble and act accordingly in the summer, that should happen!!. What will happen is that roeder will stay, waste what little money he is allowed to spend, hang on to the overpaid wankpots he signed and get the boot 10 games in thus fucking another season up!!!!
Sent in on: March 19th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
Lets dip into the market and bring back Maric, Marcelino, Cordona, Bassedas, Gavilan, Dumas
We might get somewhere then!!!

Roeder, I don’t know anymore like what the hell is he doing half the time, like does he deserve to go or has this season just been completley luckless for him and Newcastle. He’s had mountains of injuries to deal with and alot of the time this year people have turned around and said Roeders doing well with what he has. But like injuries only count for so much. Like to me any way it seemed that there is one player holding this team together, keeping us afloat and thats Shay Given. It’s no coincidence that when Given got injured against West Ham that we spent the rest of the games that he was out for pretty much at the bottom of the table then when he came back against Arsenal, which he was unatural in, that the the climb began. It’s not a coincidence.
If Roeder made GOOD signings when he had the chance then who knows, you can’t say it can’t be done cause like look at Roy Keane and Sunderland when he got there they were second from bottom now they’re second. He didn’t make that many signings and the ones he did like they were smart signings. It’s because..”Keane expects 100% effort from his team but he is also demanding the results – which he is now getting regularly and is already thinking ahead to the close season with breaking news that Chairman Quinn will back him with a $25M transfer kitty if they win promotion.” it’s close up top but he might do it.
I know there’s NO Sunderland fans around here that I know of anyway but like even Shay Given’s backing Roy to bring them up in his first season.
It doesn’t take a miracle for things like that to happen it just takes like a decent manager and hard work and belief (and a bit of money) but it can be done. There’s no reason why couldn’t be.
Sent in on: March 19th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
Roeder’s reactions to the AZ and Charlton games are that of a man under pressure!! I was at the Charlton match and we were NOT the best team in the first half or any part of the game, the BBC and local press agree with me!! Yet Roeder was obviously at the Man Utd game or something.
Sir Bobby was sacked for finishing 5th in the league. Can you imagine the celebrations if we finsihed 5th now. We have not progressed since a man who cannot find a job anywhere took us to the foot of the table. one other guy comes in and attempts to stamp his authority on the team, but really he feels has to justify his actions all the time (a man who is not comfortable with managing at this level) Why have we employed a manager who got West Ham relegated and has now got a regular Eurpoean footballing team playing desperately playing for points to get into the Intertoto. This is laughable. You know if this remains the same the Mackems are going to come and stuff us next season!!! Now that is a sobering thought!! Maybe that game will be the turning point for Fat Freddy to get rid of him and get a world class manager rather than one whom he felt did well during a honeymoon period after Souness! THINK FREDDY!!! He did well but you must think longer term than that!!!

Its very funny i said about 6 weeks ago when we went through a decent spell that i bet when a couple of the so called “stars” come back from injury the young boys will be pushed aside and watch the results slide, and thats exactly whats happened.
What has amused me even more is glenn roedor all season continously saying ” im not going to blame our injury plight for the result” and this week whats he been saying … EXACTLY THAT!
Hes a pig of a man with no tactical awareness what so ever.

how the fuck can everyone still have faith in roeder. or for that matter how could anyone have any faith in him ever. he isnt even qualified for the job. he had a little run after souness left cause everyone was so happy to be rid of him but now after thats run off hes the worst fucking coach in the league. we need a big famous boss. someone that can control the players and get something out of anyone else than parker oba and given. i say well go down soon if we dont get rid of this halfwit

There are fans in certain South American countries that would organise a whip round to have their club chairman / president shot if they were forced to endure the kind of nonsense we have had to put with.
Might be worth looking into, anybody got Tino’s number?
Sent in on: March 19th, 2007 at 1:17 am
I can’t understand it like you look at the team on paper and it’s not a bad side, it’s not like but it’s got to a stage where you wonder if they’re turning up to training at all. Like I honestly think that at this stage Given would be better off with no back 4, like they’re causing him more problems than the other teams are. Shay is a world class keeper he shouldn’t have to play behind that “defense.” I’ve said it before and I’ll say again, I know he’s commited and loyal and loves living in Newcastle and ya he said he’d stay but you got to wonder how much further is he going to be pushed till he snaps. While all along those offers from Arsenal are looking more and more tempting. Either one of two sorry three things will happen. Either we get some sort of decent defense in there and he stays, nothing happens, he gets more and more frustrated for the excuse of whats in front of him and leaves or stays and feel miserable.
Like even if you here him talk it’s like he’s used to it, he is but he shouldn’t be and I do I feel for him I do. Like I’m delighted to have him as our number 1 for country and club he’s saved us so many times it’s not funny like, when we didn’t qualify for the World Cup last year I thought he was gone I though he was going ot leave Newcastle, he might be one of the soundest, modest players around but it’s no secret that he wants tropheys. You’ve got to wonder how much further he can pushed before he breaks. Unless something happens in defense, and happens fast.

get rid of the overpaid mercenaries who’ve done nothing and shown no heart to play for this club, and stick with players with genuine desire and hunger
we need an overhaul from top to bottom: new board, new manager, new coaches, new scouts, new players
and the only way this can happen? A takeover!!!!

Stop whingeing and do something. The only thing capatalism fears is lack of sales and a brand losing its buying power. “The Toon” is now nothing more than a brand. Stay away, don’t buy any merchandise, stop putting comments on Toon sites. The players don’t give a damn, the club don’t so as long as the cash registers keep ringing. Just take a deep breath and stop. And don’t give me any of that crap about I have to, if you do you just prolong the agony.

Totally agree with John about Roeder and his favourites. David Edgar has been thrown back in the reserves since the game where he came on for Ramage and ran the defence pulling us out of the shite for a second time. Edgar got no credit off Roeder but his beloved ‘Hunty’ actually got a pat on the back from Roeder for being the worst player on the pitch on Thursday nite. After today how much more can we take??
Sent in on: March 18th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Here’s an idea in the summer when the fixture list is released, why don’t we make some kind of pre season agreement with the likes of Charlton ( If they don’t get relegated) Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, Man City etc automatically awarding them the three points for their home fixtures against us. This will ultimately, save us both the expenditure and humiliation involved in actually fulfilling these fixtures.
Drop Dead Fred!

First of all, I think the Gooch bashing needs to stop, apart from one slip up today he won everything in the air, tackled well in the box, and has the presence necessary to steady the defense. For me Onyewu should be bought on a permanent. Dyer and Parker had cack games, Duff did well at left back, Sibierski simply shouldn’t have been on the pitch.
Roeder, for me has got the right idea about what the club needs in terms of signings, although he is a little too cautious (eg Woodgate, Campbell). Today however his selection baffled me. Emre gave no width whatsoever, and left Duff exposed, and to be fair Duff did very well considering. Milner proved why he should have played against Alkmaar. I think Roeder went out with the wrong game plan, we had no width, so Sibierski’a aerial threat was pretty much eliminated, meanaing he had no real purpose on the pitch, he was pretty immobile. Dyer should have played behind Oba. Roeder shouldn’t be sacked, impatience will get us nowhere, but he is certainly becoming worryingly erratic with his selection.

What can be said that hasn’t been said before?
Roeders not up to it and has to go, and Shepherd is the baffoon making a pigs ear of the club and has to go too…
Sadly I’m too demoralised to give one at the moment though. We all need to pray that Shepherds helicopter crashes next time hes out and about in it.

Absolutely bollocks. If this team was a horse they’d shoot it. Roeder’s right about one thing, I feel dead sorry for Shay Given. He deserves better than the spineless clueless goons that pass as our back four. If ever there was a case for ripping a club up and starting again from scratch this is it, from the chairman on down. I know we’ve got some good players there but right at this minute I’m just so pissed off about the last two gutless performances.
Sent in on: March 18th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
..and to make matters worse, i just sat and watched Villa and Everton put their heart and soul into todays games to draw with Liverpool and beat Arsenal respectively. They were well drilled, did the basics well and were passionate and commited.
CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I SAID THAT ABOUT A NEWCASTLE ‘PERFORMANCE’
Sent in on: March 18th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
Yet another P**S POOR performance.
Fat Fred was in the papers today pledging to spend BIG in the summer…GOOD, HE NEEDS TO…..Start by bringing in a PROVEN HIGH LEVEL MANAGER.
I used to think that Roeder should be dropped back to reserve team coach, but now, after having a better look at him, i don’t even think he’s good enough for that. He should do the honourable thing and quit now !!
In my opinion the whole team needs an overhaul because the balance just isnn’t right. If you don’t have a strong back bone you’ve got nothing to build on.
Firstly we need a whole new back line - Two centre backs, two full backs PLUS COVER. NONE of our defenders are good enough. Forget Gooch, sell bramble, sell Babs, sell Carr, stick Taylor on the bench for another couple of years to learn from some world class solid defenders and see if he improves. because at the moment he’s believing the hype about how good he can be and is becoming VERY complacent.
A tough tackling midfield general as captain is also a priority….a big physical and spiritual prescence, strong, creative, vocal, good in the air, a box to box man who can snuff out danger, plug holes as he sees them opening, spot a killer pass, motivate and organise the troops, kick their ar*es into gear and turn defence into attack. Every top team has one, we have to make do with Scott Parker. Not solid enough-not vocal enough-not intelligent enough-not skilful enough- NOT GOOD ENOUGH, not for our ‘main man’ anyway. Would rather partner our new ‘Dynamo’ with Emre in centre midfield and have parker as cover.
Left and right midfielders - Get rid of Duff, he’s not performing and looks like he just ain’t interested. I believe that maybe Miner and definately N’Zogbia could be good enough in time, but they too need quality, experienced players to learn from.
A quality striker. Someone physical, dominant in the air, mobile, quick, a real handful for opposition defenders. Someone in the mould of Spurs ‘Newcastle United supporter’ Berbatov would be ideal (swap for Duff who they seem so keen on?), to complement Owen and Martins blistering pace but lack of presence.
Maybe, just maybe, we have enough at the club to slot in around the above buys to make up the first eleven and give cover, but most of the current crop, INCLUDING THE MANAGER AND COACHING STAFF, are by no stretch of the imagination good enough, they’re mostly dead wood and need to go.
With seven games to go and Newcastle only 10 points above third bottom Charlton who beat us convincingly today and 17 points behind fourth place Liverpool, that’s all the proof anyone should need.
Sent in on: March 18th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Roeder must go; he just doesn’t inspire confidence at all, either with the fans of with the team. We have to get a strong manager in who will get the club going in a positive direction and keep it there. And for once and for all the defensive frailties must be taken care of! It’s just beyond embarrasing!
Sent in on: March 18th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Thought perhaps Reoder might make it if given a chance, however having serious doubts,
Any manager who gets rid of a local lad {the current champs. league leader with 21 goals)following Owens injury + Shearers retirement and signs a 30 odd year old Man City castoff, raises doubts as to judjment.
Yeah Martins seems a classy signing, but the jury is still out on the big yank defender and what happened to all the people we were supposed to sign during the holiday window?
But please, no Harewood, a big clumsy Heskylike club player. Ashton, Reo-Coker, or Ferdinand hmm.maybe?
Also need a clearout of the following, Carr,Babayaro,Moore,Bramble and if Emre wants out, let him go too.
We must keep and develope youngsters like Zog,Milner,Taylor and the young defenders recently blooded in the side.
So I see the clubs priority is a decent striker,
Perhaps Ashton or Babbel.
A decent set of young fullbacks and a central defender, even though this would still result in a thin squad in regard to the unusual number of injuries at this club.
But Glen if you happen to read this no more Club
players or Pensioners please.

How i can said, same old story from Roeder. I think Next season will be diaster if Roeder still be our manager.

Where is that team that played with such heart on New Years Day? Oh yes…………not all the players that played that day are one of Roeder’s favourties! Why isn’t young David Edgar playing? The kid did better than anyone that has played since.

I too left the folds on Thursday. I have hardly missed since 1966 and after 40 years I can honestly say that I retired hurt which is more than appeared on the faces of those involved in yet another clueless season of bumbling shambles.
There will be 2 empty seats for the rest of the season and we have vowed never to renew season tickets until Shepherd is gone. He is our Bob Murray.
Van Gaal was appointed about the same time as Roeder and in the same time has replaced the entire team for a cost of less than 10 million pounds. He is a shrewd tactition and easily outwitted Forrest Gump on Thursday night when we had the clubs slowest player marking their flying right wing equivalent of Ronaldo. Bramble was doing yet again what he has supposedly been coached not to do and Taylor looking arrogant while playing shyte…..I could go on……when Carr and Duff are fit both will always play - neither are any longer good enough more money will be wasted soon on the likes of the frankly pathetic Gooch.
Cometh the summer cometh the agents and the cycle of expensive failure continues
I smelled the coffee on Thursday and it was decidedly bitter!

the biggest problem is Roeder, playing two wingers at full back and a defender who has played all his life in america and belgium, craig moore hasn’t played all season and is thrown in the deep end. Dyer clearly was injured but roeder played him for another 50 minutes. Parker had one of his better games but still did not affect our attacking play one bit. Roeder hasn’t got the bollocks to drop big name players like dyer, duff and parker even when there not performing. There is no creativity, our best players have been shay and nicky butt this season which is worrying having your goalkeeper and defensive mifdielder as best players. Roeder has no clue about tactics or man management, can you imagine going in at half time and seeing the wrath of Glenn Roeder, there is more passion and motivation in my little finger than he has got in his entire body. Im just waiting to hear the usual excuses of injuries, ref, tiredness after Alkmaar (not that they did any work on thursday to be tired for) Sir Bobby managed to get us 3rd, 4th and 5th with half the team roeder has got, only shearer, bernard, speed would get into our current side. Sir Bobby would work miracles with this side. With Roeder in charge i am worried about becoming the next leeds or forest, it is only a matter of time before our top players get fed up, Shay deserves a nighthood for staying with us through this and not moving on.

…Dear me !!! What has happened to NUFC?
I have a few points to cover and they are:
Tactics, Coaching and Management !
Whats currently happening at NUFC could be slightly down to lack of quality in the team - but that is the difference between qualifying for europe and just missing out - newcastle have done neither this season.
Tactics:
It would seem to me that newcastle are playing with the midfield playing too close to the defencive back line. This may have been adpted to prevent us from conceding too many goals - It’s not working ! An old football saying can be apopted at times like this: “Score more than you let in means you win games”.
Movement in the side is very sparse at the moment, whatever happened to pass and move and run into space?
Clearly there are many more points that could be raised regarding tactic deployment at newcastle, but i think my theory (see the management section) would be the best solution to this.
Coaching:
Managers in this day (since i can remember) have been bringing in thier mates - e.g. sounes, the blackburn coaching team (hehe). Its no good bringing in your mates from struggling clubs to help coach a side wanting european qualification !!
when roeder took chage at newcastle we had a lot of injuries but we also had a group of players (many of which are still here) who had decent ball control and movement about them. In the time since Roeder took the hot seat any abilities (i.e. ball control, movement on/off the ball) has simply disapeared and our players have the ball control of elephants ! Coaching, as it would seem, has reshaped a foundation of a good team, into just a big whole and based on todays fixture, i’d say we have a foundation of 1 player (Given) - the coaches are not working enough on the critical areas. If Martins had signed for Man Utd (not that they were bidding for him) instead of newcastle, he’d have a 1st touch now and be banging goals away for fun.
My greatest fear is that Roeder is training his players to keep themselves fit and avoid injury (at the expense several sets of 3 pointers in the Premiership). Because of this being careful stuff, we look guttless on the field (afraid to get stuck into a tackle: Emre, Dyer, Duff).
Management:
Roeders history shows that he’s managed teams and saved them from relegation in one season…then taken them down to the Championship the next. I’m not saying that we will go down next season, but this suggests that Roeder is tactically inept.
When newcastle have needed a new manager, they have always picked the same type of manager (i.e. One that established himself at the club, finds his favourite players (the ones he gets on with the most) and will pick his favourites regardless of their underperforming). This sort of thing must stop ! Would Alex Ferguson do that? If Rio Ferdinand had 2 or 3 crap performances on the trot, he would be dropped until an easy cup match where he coul prove himself again. Roeder signed Duff in the pre season, at 5 million, it seemed like a steal, now everyone can see why. But will he be on the starting lineup ahead of Zog next game?? You know what the answer is. Alot of poor managers refuse to own up to the fact that they made a poor signing by dropping that player, Roeder is one of them.
Summary,
This post has covered the areas of newcastle that need to be addressed before newcastle even need to think about signing more players. Tactics and coaching are both linked together by management. Somebody recently mentioned that we should splash out for Gus Hiddink as manager. I say, why not? Hiddink can bring in his back room staff (world class coaches), tactics (which have led him to win many competitions inthe past) and his ability to attract big name players to the club.
Would Hidding come? Probably not !
Mark’s final comment: Sheppard, hurry up and sell the club while you can get £90m for it coz the value is going to drop when we’re playing in the Championship in a couple of years.

What more CAN be said?
Inconsistant & unreliable time & time again!
This team need lessons in passion & desire if there is any way of catching up with high-flying & hard working teams like Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Totenham & hell yeah even low-charisma teams Reading & Bolton!
Work ethic this year from the big players has been awful & yes the 2nd string teams we’ve put out have actually been better than the starting line up! But now they also now seem to think that they can play half-hearted & that is a major worry!
Does Bramble actually know what is he doing half the time?
Is Taylor getting a cocky & arrogant?
Which version of the headless chicken routine will Babayaro show us today?
Why does Parker vanish when needed & then reappear smacking someone into the hordings?
Which direction is Duff actually playing?
Does Carr need a wheelchair to keep up?
Is Sibierski any better than 10 good mins each game?
Does Moore really give a toss or is he thinking of home already?
Is Solano past it & needing a rest?
Can Emre play alongside Parker & not loose his temper?
Does Ameobe know how to run properly for more than 1 attempt each game?
Is Luque… oh forget it I don’t care anymore!
Fact is that Dyer, Given, Martins & Owen cannot hold up the team by themselves & the rest need to focus if we are to have any chance of winninganything in coming years.
We need a completely new back line who can actually stay focused for 90 mins. 2 new midfielders with real passion & take control. A new RLC attacking midfielder who is NOT past his best & someone who can stick the ball in the net from simple tap ins instead of the edge of the penalty area.
In short we need MONEY… oh well we’re f**ked then really as Freddie won’t give us any without pissing & moaning to the press about it.
Shoot me now.
G-man

So, what to say?
I feel that the word “season-worst” have been used far to many times this season, but to be fair, this was yet another outrageous performance from our side!
I felt we were in total control throughout the first half, and the opening of the second. But once Martins misses the alone on goal (YET AGAIN), I knew we were getting nothing from this game! I am a big supporter of Martins, but he HAS to put away chances like that.
And from there it went down the drain, as always. Once they get that goal, which was a foolish challenge by Milner (or was it Emre), you can see our players transforming into mindless chickens. They loose all self-esteem, and all ability to go forward with a descent plan. Yet again.!
Roeder must improve his ability to spur the players on, a quality he seems to be lacking. It’s like he freezes the minute we concede a goal. For god sake, do some changes, talk to the players!!! But it’s the players who are the main problem…Newcastle can play brilliantly when they want to, and are not trailing a goal behind. What is wrong with our team? Who is to blame? I think it’s a matter of terrible tactics from Roeder, and lack of ability, or self-esteem from the players. Hell, just attack like you did before the opposition scored, don’t run and hide like children!
I am so upset with this extremely poor performance, yet again. We have now lost 4 of 6 points to the worst team in the premiership. Why is that? Because we are a mediocre team! Thats why…we have good players, who seldom give their best, and a manager lacking tactics, and a pitiful chairman (oh no, i mentioned him) who can’t see that his time at the helm is nigh!
Crap performance, crap attitude, crappy ball-movement, crappy tactics….CRAP GAME!!!!
The only positive efforts where Milner, who created our only forward drive, Parker, for is hard work in midfield, not for his attacking play. And Given, had it not been for him, we would have been beneath Charlton!
When will it end, when will the players show their true abilities, more than one/two players per game?
Bjørn - Ashamed!

A loss that doesn’t suprise me. Charlton with something to fight for, Newcastle with nothing but midtable mediocrity, at best. We were never going to find the motivation today after such an awful performance in the UEFA Cup.
I Just want the season to end now, i’ve resigned us to no europe next season, so, as long as we can pick up enough points that we dont get sucked into a last minute relegation battle (We’re still not at that 40 point mark), we can write off this season and begin planning for the next.
For next season, money needs to be spent wisely, a rightback, a left back and a commanding centerback to replace the riff-raff we had to use this season. Get rid of Bramble, Moore, Carr and Babayaro, bring in some new players, wont be hard to improve on their quality.
Midfield, if we lose emre, needs an attacking presence, possibly N’Zogbia could fill that role, possibly not. And we need a strong striker, with Ashton a possibility if west ham do indeed go down.
Without these improvements, i cannot see us being any more than also-rans next season.
Here’s hoping roeder, and newcastle in general, prove me wrong.

another loss…….Fucking hell im sick of losing cant we just get a billiornaire to buy us some world class players and becmoe a team that can challenge for the premiership title.Very dissapointed ,c mon lads pick it up!

We started well but ended miserably, so disappointed again about the performance in the second half, couldn’t pass the ball well, and no one helped out when one of the players got the ball, leaving them isolated. Relying too much long balls to sibierski and martins, which brought us nothing. Defence was shocking as well, we could have conceded more than 2 goals.
I don’t think roeder is the right man to lead us to glory and he should be sacked, his tactics are bad and making players confused, they don’t know what to do on the pitch!
