Why Big Sam’s not the man for Toon - Alan Oliver

Those fans who have had a little wager on Sam Allardyce being the next manager of Newcastle United know what they have to do today - tear up their betting slip.
The bookies make Big Sam third favourite behind Martin O’Neill and Roberto Mancini, but there is no way the United supporters will want to see their team playing the way Bolton play - even if it’s another 50 years before they win a trophy.
In fact, it’s a good job Alan Green, the Radio Five man who called Bolton’s football ugly and fell out with Allardyce, wasn’t at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Ugly? That was almost playing Bolton a compliment. It was joyless, brutal stuff, especially compared with some of the one-touch football United played at times.
What a difference a year makes…

I remember Bolton beating United at the Reebok on the last day of October in 2004. It was Graeme Souness’ first reverse as United manager after seven wins and a couple of draws.
Souness came across to me just outside the United dressing room and started bleating about Bolton’s tactics.
My immediate reaction was to think “well, you are paid £2m a year to come up with ideas to combat whatever tactics opposing managers may throw at you”.
The Bolton brand of football has been perceived as functional, physical, long-ball and unattractive.
Allardyce’s response to those jibes was always the same.
If Chelsea played that way, it was fashionable. If Bolton followed a similar path, it was grubby.
It doesn’t surprise anyone here at N.O to see the two-faced Mr Oliver arse lick the new manager Sam Allardyce who it is hoped sees right through the Chronicle and Newcastle United employee for what he is.
Mind he isn’t the only one doing a U-turn…
If you can remember any similar Alan Oliver contradictions, wide of the mark reports or other general nonsense, send them in and we’ll publish them.

AO works in an industry that prides itself on the Truth, Honesty and Objective Analysis are you kidding yourself Jezzer? Have you read a paper recently?
I’m sure given time all the managers that FF has sacked will have been able to turn things round. Sir Bobby wasn’t even doing that bad and he got the boot. Let’s face it, we don’t deserve a top manager because all we do is get them the sack when we don’t like the way things are going. I don’t think that Sam is any better than the rest of them but before he’s even put a team together to kick a ball in anger he’s cut out most of the dead wood. It remains to be seen whether or not he brings in more dead wood just like Mr Souness did. I’d rather still have Aaron Hughes on the team than Craig Moore, glad to see the back of him.

Ive just e-mailed the editor in cheif of the chronicle giving him a link to this page.
If he see’s how contradictory oliver is being and see’s how disliked as a journolist he is by the people who are buying (or now concidering not buying) his paper the he might think twice about letting him write such rubbish again.
I could do a better job than that monkey and as you can tell by this post i may be dyslexic.
TOON, TOON, BLACK AND WHITE ARMY!!!!!!

What a joke. I love the fact that we for once have a new manager with, what seems like, big plans. Looking forward to the new season.

Alan Oliver is a cancer on the clubs arse. If were starting with a clean slate then he should be peddaled as he’s definitely not interested in whats best for the club.
The only interest he has is whats best for himself.
He’s worse than a Mackem in my books.
Come on Sam, you’ve got rid of Bramble now get rid of this simpleton.

I don’t know much about Alan Oliver, except that when I have read anything by him he seems to be pretty arrogant and negative. Not really worth reading this article, chaps and chapesses…….

I can’t understand how a man who has demonstrated so little integrity can remain be in gainful employement, in an industry which prides itself on Truth, Honesty and Objective Analysis. Why hasn’t he been sacked? His employer must believe that that the people who buy their newspapers are below contempt. Or they must believe we are incredibly stupid; so stupid that we can’t see how their scribe is a two-faced buffoon! The owners of the Chronicle clearly don’t think the individual readership matter as people! As human beings! They can’t do, otherwise how could they continue to employ a man whose versions of objective reality vary on an almost daily basis! I will not buy that ‘paper until the idiot has been sacked. He is an embarrassment to the Geordie Nation. We should all boycott the rag until Oliver does the decent thing…or his boss does it for him!

Of course it’s helpful to bring it up. This tosser writing crap all the time is a massive detriment to the club and the people trying to manage it. His total bollox has got all genuine fans sick of his crap. I emailed the Chronicle a couple of months back and complained about him, they sent it to Anal and he emailed me having a right go! He reports quotes from other papers/sites and says the person ’spoke to me today’ - what a load of shite. The sooner the nob is sacked the better.

Well done Newcastle Online for posting the article.
Top stuff.
Those people that still buy the paper should boycott until the twat is relieved of his duties.

i don’t think slagging off oliver is infighting. He does not have the best interests of the club at heart and is Fat freds puppet. He is not one of us. He was just loving martins going awol as well.

Upon reading that it’s amazing that the man actually manages to get away with it.
In an industry where your articles are your reputation it’s pretty obvious that Mr. Oliver’s reputation continues to lie in tatters.
The man has more faces than a clock and the sooner Big Sam bins this self appointed mouthpiece of the club the better.
‘Nuff said.

i think that sam is the man for this job,as long as he gets some fresh blood in.(new players).i think we should get some talent in.for example: sidwell, gelson, campbell, viduka, diouf, hunt ect.all i know is the fans want it too.i would hate to see no one come in through the tranfer market for us,as sam said ‘we have the one of the biggest stadiums in the world and we scare other teams away’.as they say when the season starts then we will scare every body when they vist our stadium.we deserve better football at our ground!
you know y? because we have big sam and that is the way we do it,sam can show that he is a good manager and he can turn newcastle around.
who would you want to come to our club?
with the amount of quailty we have and produced,we should be up that table,we deserve to be up there,i hope people realize we are one of the biggest clubs,we dont need fancy money, aswell we dont need the best players in the world, all we need is the biggest surport we can bring to the stadium. someone talk back to me.

You are right about Oliver being a muppet….but I dont think it’s helpful to bring up. Let’s all just have a new start…afterall…we have all had our say about Big Sam in the past and it’s quite suprising so many of us are now happy to have him…myself included. That’s not be defending Anal in any way…that man’s an 4rse…but I’m just sick of reading negative infighting.
We have to pull together in order to go anywhere.
