Your Shout: Wigan 1-0 Newcastle Utd - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Sun 25 Feb 2007 |
Ryan Taylor’s 40th-minute freekick sailed into Newcastle’s top corner, after Nolberto Solano saw a penalty kick superbly saved by the Wigan shotstopper, as Newcastle slumped to their third successive 1-0 defeat at the JJB in a thought-provoking encounter.
Who played well? Who really, really didn’t? What did you think of Roeder’s team selection? What about his substitutions? Who should start against Boro next week? Have your say!

To be honest We are a team that could finish anywhere between 5th and 16th in the league. If Solano had of scored the pen and Given had of been better positioned for the free kick we all would have been praising Roeder on a proffessional away performance. this season we are going to get beat time to time. Roeder played the most physical team he could to cope with Wigans strong arm tactics. Its one to forget about and Ive forgotten already

Does anyone else get the feeling that our old Toon has become a superficial structure of uncommitted board members and sub-par players (Mssrs Solano, N’zogbia, Taylor, and mostly Given excluded, of course) that could collapse at any second? That’s a frightening thought, but I keep having it…
I hope we can establish something of a foundation soon enough to escape relegation in the next couple of seasons.
We need Michael Owen back, he can show everyone what commitment means. I know one player can’t do everything, but it’ll be a huge boost having him back. He and Martins will be pure magic next season, says I.

ther having ago at duff becoz since hes been with us hes don absolutly nothing but ruin zogbias inredible form for us. i was chuffed to bits 5 million for duff and every game he plays it looks more and more like excellent buisness for chelsea.
when are we goin to stop buying players for ther names and get players who improve the TEAM instead
i believe Chopra would have been good enough if he was given a far chance, but hell he never got one and he moved so fair do’s in my opinion cardiff have a cracking player who will get them in premiership.
i also dont think Roeder is as careing about our youngsters as some people think hes only playing them because we YET AGAIN dont have enough defenders, nor any decent ones.
we better to god beat middlesbrough, although hell probs fiddle with the few player she has and screw this up as well, iam happy he saved us after souness but hes not a good enough manager to get us back up ther like sir bobby did, we need a strong manager who will shove it how it is to fat freddy in my opinion.

Roeder bottled his team selection yet again to accomidate his favourites i.e. huntington why drop milner (scapegoat) dyer rested? if so rest him against Zulte Waregem in midweek not in the Premiership when you play Butt & Parker you have no flair or creativity when Emre is missing he should have played solano at right back not Taylor and Milner on the wing, anyway 2nd half a complete no show no determination no winners in the side no one willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck because wigan are mediocer and were there for the taking players settled for 1-0

puretoon mate, to be fair, Roeder didnt want to sell Chops, he demanded to go, unless he would be in the starting 11. So the day before owen got injured against Sweden, he agreed the deal with Cardiff and didnt want to go back on his word to Dave Jones.Dont forget, many of his 21 goals for Cardiff in the Championship are Pens. Roeder has been a lot more pro youth, giving Tayls, Rammy, Zogi, Milner, Hunty etc a fair crack at the wip.

How on earth did you come to this conclusion Drew about Chopra? fair enough everyones entitled to their own opnion, but to say this about a young player who came through the accademy and was then never given a fair chance to play even a short run of games, is rubbish. IF he’d had been given a chance of playing more games, even a short run, then proved he was hopeless, then yes, let him go, but nufc literally ignore him, didn’t want him and couldn’t wait to get rid of him and after serving all those years, nay wasting all those years here waiting for a chance to play in the first team, but being totally denied and ignored, that must have done his soul case in-and wasted a helluva lot of money and time training in the accademy. But lets not forget that this stupid club prides itself on a multimillion £ accademy, then sells its young vital talent-what a fucking waste of money, of everything.
The worst and biggest excuse they come out with is they don’t want to ‘burn out’ these young players! for fucks sake! how wrong, how fucking sad, these young eager players are good enough, old enough and bloody well better than some of the crap we have playing now!AND could save this club millions!
Unfortunately the only player to come out of the accademy some years back is THE favourite golden boy Ameobe-every manager seems to love this lad-why???….we will see…………but thank god we now have a tadge of common sense showing when they constantly play young Tayor, Ramage etc…….

Toatally disagree with DODDS CHOPRA is only good for a championship team he was never ever good for the championship most premiership teams out played him and it was good to get rid of him cos hes crap

Newcastle should have won this match easyer and in result to the toon is 11th and not 9th
Sent in on: February 27th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
i agree puretoon, we treated Chopra like shit stating he wasnt good enough, yet 21 goals in the championship this season top goalscorer as well says it all did we let him go on a free? STUPID
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
thankyou andy mate, i could not agree more!

We’re a laughing stock-but we aren’t laughing! Just when will these overpaid, under-achievers actually start doing what they’re getting grossly over paid for?? playing football!!
The trouble starts, as alwys, right at the top-FS and Co. This bunch of suits couldn’t run a piss up in the whatsit.
Last summer it was rumoured players were chosing the smoggies over us-that’s a sad state of affairs. And for Roeder-he couldn’t motivate a fly and we need a motivator-as well as a manager who’ll make loosing not an option.
For me Roeder’s to much a mixture of SBR and Souness but more dourness mixed in-not a good mix either. Roeder seems to be trying to switch the squad round too much, but hasn’t got enough players to do this.
He’s also got his favourites too-one of whom’s not playing due to injury-Ameobe. No matter what happens next season you can bet your sweet life he’ll play Shola no matter who else he drops. He’s openly admitted he loves him-too much like SBR for my liking.
I felt really sorry for young Chopra who’s a Geordie through and through, not to be given a fair chance, shipped off and totally forgotten. The frustration that young player must have felt must have been terrible. If anyone can tell me what Amoebe’s got that Chopra hasn’t I’ll be very grateful.
Sorry to go on as much but don’t you get sick of this club dragging we, the toon army, down the gutter all the time…………how much will the Fat Ba***rd put our season tickets up for next year??????????????????
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
follow parkers lead??
all of the players would have wet backsides, and be suspended every 2 month, not to mention lose all of their pace, score 3 goals a season and look less likely to create anything than fumaca in his prime!!!!!!!
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
was parker even playing?? never heard his name mentioned apart from his typical booking AGAIN. this didnt suprise me as ive noticed for a while now that malcolm mcdonald is right, parker is crap!! the only compliment i can give to this slow ineffective waster is hes a bit better than amady faye.
That said he wasnt alone yesterday as they were all an absolute disgrace, poor milner the fall guy when the so called big guns return. Its really starting to annoy me watching newcastle, too many players living off reputations but in reality are has beens who produce very little.
duff, parker, emre all big names but equally shit!!!!!
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
how many points has Shay saved Newcastle though in the last few years!!!!!
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Not one e-mail regarding the “golden boy” Shay Given.
He cost NUFC the carling cup tie V chelski with his ridiculous positioning from a free kick and yesterday was identical. I know i will get slated for this but it needs saying.

Our tiny squad is being over-stretched and Glenn’s occasional tactical bollock-dropping doesn’t help.
It’s that simple.
Sent in on: February 26th, 2007 at 10:02 am
looks like the team has been shuffled to allow titus the shitus back in, if he wasnt fit it would have been onyewu and taylor in the centre with sol at back and milner on the right, you CAN NOT play butt and parker together in the centre of the park, there is no attacking ability in the pair. To be honest ive gone well off parker, i think hes as useless as dog shite.
And by the way sam, how are villa doing this year ? or the last 10 yrs for that matter ? your crap and you know it! I could name all the cups we won and league weve won, but they were all years ago, LIKE YOURS!
maybe u should see if michale j fox wants to lend you his delorian cause your living in the past pal.

Watched the match on a 2hr tape delay here in the States.. Gooch looked like he had a good day, but after that missed penalty… oi! Attack never looked coordinated or shaped, just “oh, let’s lob ‘er into the box and see what happens!” Duff standing open on the far side (TV) waving his arms for service… bah!
We keep talking about the great talent at this club, but what’s needed to get it all into order? Something on the training ground? Strong leadership in the dressing room? More money poured into the club (only to get injured…)
sad morning here in Seattle

Admittedly last nights performance was poor to say the least but dont forget then number of games we have played this season. We seem to have a european hangover as everytime we have returned from europe game we have lost in the Prem.
I dont know about gooch in the backline not much composure under pressure, Titus looked much better than him which is rare. I think we should stick with Talys and Titus in the middle and nobby at right back. Hunty means well but and defends ok but we have nothing going forward.
Duffer looked frustrated with him all afternoon. Left back is our most desperate position. Where the hell is bernard??? Babayoyo??? Surely bernard would be better than hunty. Or even play duff there with zog in front of him.
Solano had a poor game at RM his passing was off and he missed the penalty. I think Oba should take them. Oba missed one against Everton and he lost the privellage. Nobby missed one so put Oba back on the spot.
In midfield Butt & Parkers passing was awful. no control. Parker really lacks any real conviction going forward and by playing him and butt together we lack creativity. Parker/dyer, butt/dyer, parker/emre, butt/emre should be the only combinations but I suppose its hard when they are injured.
If duff, oba, sib or nobby would have scored in the frst half if would have been all over. The same old story in Football if you dont take you chance then you dont get any points.
We need to improve away from home!!! Middlesborough are playing well next week will be a good game, but I think we will win 2-1.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
We arent a top four club at the moment and many of our other players besides Given, Parker & Owen would play in the top 4. Martins, Dyer, Emre, Duff (did you forget where we signed him from).
To be honest im sick of reading this crap. We win one game and Roeder is a legend, the team is awesome and everything is sweet.
We lose one game heaven forbid and the world is going to end, Roeder is a mug, the team is crap. Bugger Martin O’niell, Villa are below us remember and just payed through the nose for ashley young. I know who I would prefer Martins anyday.
Stop being so fickle and accept the fact that Newcatle United like a Rollercoaster with many ups and downs. Just support the team and stop being so negative. Stick to analysing the game.
I think Roeder has been doing an excellent job (top half) considering the injuries we have had, the resources he has been provided. We have to be patient, give the team time he is building something good here.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
What a sickener! Why did he leave Milner out of the starting lineup? Or did he change the team around to incorporate his beloved ‘Hunty’. I really dont understand why Paul is such a blue eye at the club, i really dont rate him. I’m not a fan of Roeder neither, i wish he was as good a manager as he was a player for us. It was a good game in the first half but their goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of us. God help us if the mackums get promoted and beat us next season!!
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Why wasn’t Dyer playing????
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
The loss is what we deserved. Penalty should never had been, but the team couldnt even pick themselves up after the miss. Dyer was missed, so was milner. Can’t undertand why Roeder played Huntingdon or Taylor as full backs as these dont really offer any attacking advantages and that probably showed today through our lack of creativity and play. Sibierski, Bramble and Given were probably our better players on the pitch from what I heard on Five Live Extra. I just hope we soon get some style about ourselves as we have failed several times this season to even create much in a game, and considering the players we have (Duff, Dyer, Martins, Milner, Emre, N’Zog, etc.), and even the team we had out today then we should be creating many more chances than we did. I just hope the next game will be better.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
Poor performance. Missed Dyer. Milner should have started. Team should have been: GIVEN, SOLANO, TAYLOR, BRAMBLE, HUNTY, MILNER, PARKER, BUTT, DUFF, MARTINS, SIBIERSKI. SOLANO IS AS GOOD AS ANY OF OUR FULL BACKS SO WE MAY AS WELL PLAY HIM AND MILNER DOWN THE RIGHT. IT HAS BEEN WORKING. thought we might be able to continue good run the next few games against Wigan, Boro and Charlton. These are the teams we need to beat to get in the European positions. Back in the bottom half. If we dont beat Boro we definately wont make europe next year. VERY DISSAPPOINTED.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
All thanks go to Glenn Roeder for this result. I do think he is doing a good job but today he lost us 3 points.
Leaving out Milner (Our only supply for the attackers) and shifting the defence about after it was looking improved in recent games.
The Milner and Solano combination on the right side have been one of the plus points in recent weeks. On top of that, Solano shines in the right back spot!
What were you thinking Glenn!???
We are simply not good enough to rotate the squad and switch players about on the pitch!! STOP DOING IT!

Mimo,
I am a Villa fan, “O’Neil turned the Toon down for a bunch of second raters”?
European Cup Winners
European Super Cup winners
7 time division 1 champions
7 time fa cup winners
added to that a chairman who spent 20 million this year on players a new 8 million pound training ground …
need to go on ….?
Vs what
a team with a terrible board, massive debt, supporters who think they are a massive club but in reality won nothing! and now a nothing manager
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
That was dissapointing, in fairness to both of the keepers they did really well, the Wigan keeper did well to keep out the penalty but Given was powerless to do anything about the goal really, they both made a good few saves to keep their sides in the game but other then that it was well boring and dissapointing.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
WE don’t deserve every success if play like this. That’s Fact !!
Match against Wigan showed we lack creativity in midfield why Roeder sub Duff and Solano instead of Butt and Sibieski ?
Let’s hope we can pass (Master Of FootBall)Luis Van Gaal in Uefa Cup.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
so sick of them i find myself not even bothering to look at the score most times, iam so glad i cannot afford to go to the games at this point in time, result yet another disrace but i also laff at alot of fans automaticaly thinking we would win.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 4:07 pm
When was the last time we actually put a good performance in for the full 90 minutes its an absolute joke and also the players can afford to play garbage because they know they are going to start the next game and wont be dropped due to lack of depth.
Sent in on: February 25th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
More disappointment today and everyone should get ready for a continuation. The chance presented when SBR moved on has never been acted on and a formula 1 racing car is still being driven by a taxi driver. This squad is strong with good youngsters coming through but one performance after another is honestly second rate; and it surprises me that so many cannot see the obvious. The team is either lucky or not but they are almost always disappointing and when the luck runs out there is little to look forward to, but yet another defeat. If it is true O’Neil turned the Toon down for a bunch of second raters it is very worrying. FS should blame himself that good managers will not come to a club which he leads and he should also admit a new impetus is needed at boardroom level.
