Football Pet Hates
By toontastic On Thu 8 Feb 2007 |
Football has changed from the days of jumpers for goal posts and a £1m player being over priced, now we have horrible things like cheerleaders, coloured football boots and music for goals. JonnyRogers on the Newcastle-Online forum asked the question “what are your football pet hates” and he was inundated with replies, so we thought we’d open the question up to you our loyal front page readers. So come on what has changed about football which you hate, not major things such as diving/refereeing inconsistancy/Steve Carr but the little things in life?

As an American, I hate how hard it is to find the damned shirts. For any other unfortunate Yanks such as myself, I’d recommend www.worldsoccershop.com, as it’s based in the US and you avoid possible sticky customs fees if you buy through them. Also no taxes ‘cos it’s online.
In any case, the shirts are too expensive. I payed $105 for my Newcastle kit with my name and 9 on the back. I think that’s about 53 quid, when we really shouldn’t have to pay more than 20 pounds per shirt. With like an extra tenner for printing.
I know it says no diving in the question, but damn it’s gotten bad. I think they should analyze video footage after the games, and anyone caught diving gets their club docked three points. Heh, if that happened, Man U (Everyone’s favourite Cristiano) and Chelsea (That worthless pile of Drogba) wouldn’t ever be title contenders again! (I’ll keep quiet about Mssr. Owen’s spectacular dive in the Argentine area in Japan (Korea?) in ‘02 :X)

People who complain all of the the time about the cost of matches, shirts, players wages, how sh*t the Toon are and how great things were under Keegan… (yawn).
Don’t go, go and watch ice hockey instead.

I actually hate the Champions League. Although it has benefited us in the past and was very enjoyable, I still think the old European Cup was better. Champions only please. This would also make the UEFA cup much more attractive. Also, teams dropping from Champions League to UEFA cup. Sorry, but if you get knocked out, tough - F*** off until next year.
Fair weather fans. I know it’s nice to see our lovely stadium nice and full but it annoys the hell out of me when I’m surrounded by people from all over the country who clearly don’t give a damn about our club.

I hate “the luck of the Geordie”.
By which I mean the injuries we always have, and the “bad luck” in games.
Oh hang on, thats just Roeders excuse for his poor training/stretching methods which leave our players more injury prone. And his excuse for his shit tactics which remain the same no matter what the opposition or circumstances. Stop whinging you clueless fool!
On a personal note, my biggest hate in football is the fact I seem to “curse” players who’s name and number I get on shirts.
England shirt with “Dyer 23″ pre Japan/Korea 2002.
Home shirt with “Woodgate 6″ start of 03/04 season.
Away “Owen 10″ winter 2005.
England “Owen 10″ 2 hours before England V Sweden 2006.
The list goes on…. If anyone has a player they want “taken out” get in contact and for a fee I’ll get their shirt!

As an American, I like watching football (of the variety where people actually use their FEET) because it lacks the over-the-top pomp & circumstance of our domestic sports. So, when I see cheerleaders, the Star Wars theme being played before a match, and various other blights on the game that have invaded our sports in the English game then it does sadden me.
Oh, and overpriced tickets also suck as do the lack of funds being distributed throughout the league.

Lack of instant replay for two reasons… first when refs and linesmen disallow perfectly legit goals and second to retroactively fine/suspend/execute divers.

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini with their ridiculous propositions for european football, just to suit shitty french and german football, such as take away a european spot in the english division and give it to another crappy footballing nation such as germany and france, or my favourite reduce the prem to 18 teams, fuck off!!
Also crap referees, cheating italian/portuguese and other such players. And finally the press always criticising players for earning to much money. Face it, the money is there to be earned so they take advantage of it. For example if you were in david beckhams position, you were being offered 129million over 5 years would you say no, im going to go back to england were i am reguarly slated by the press earn not even half of what i getting in usa and play in shitty weather and be abused by fans at games. Personally i think good on him, well done david, and anyone who disagrees with his choice in my book is fucking crazy! nuff sed, ive had my rant now, NUFC for life howay the lads!!!

I think the worst things about the game at the minute are Andy “I love the top 4″ Gray and Mark “I’m still bitter Newcastle sacked me” Lawrenson who constantly talk complete rubbish. Alan Oliver and Shearer should be the BBC pundits each week.
I also can’t stand managers such as Warnock, Aladyce (excuse the spelling) and Jol who just love to get their names in the paper and cause controvesy to make up for their lack of footballing expertise. Jose M is excused from this because he is actually a very good coach.

The main thing that annoys me is when a player takes his shirt off when celebrating or when the player goes into the crowd to you know, hug them and stuff and they get booked, yet divers are very rarely booked.
It’s just stupid.

If there’s one thing that gets my goat it’s players waving invisible cards at the ref when they’ve been fouled. Another one is players rushing to crowd the ref when they feel they’re due a free kick or are having someone sent off etc. I mean it’s not like they’re going to change the ref’s mind! Could you imagine Uriah Renne saying “Hang on, the Man U players seem to dislike the fact i’ve sent Gary Neville for that two-footed challenge (and for having a Rat Face), I’d better get him back on the pitch”. It just shows what a bunch of prissy big girls blouses some of these premiership players are, I mean you never see that shit in other sports do you? A healthy dollop of yellows and reds for all players that throw their toys out of the pram every time they act like children would stop that crap as well as a big fat fine for their manager who should be knocking that kind of behaviour on the head in the first place! (Deep breath… count to ten….)

Fifa etc keep putting proposals forward to change this about the game and change that, some make it some dont, but am just sick ther trying to turn a simple game into chess.
Greedy chairman, high entrance fees, the cost of shirts etc…
dont agree on the sinbins idea i think its beyond stupid, so ur telling me instead of giving bad tackles bi removing them from the game we shud let them sit in a area for 10 mins and bring em back on, i duno sounds daft to me.

The main thing killing our beloved game is diving and of course divers a rule should be made, many of you may think this harsh but I think it’s the only way forward anyone caught diving fined at least 6 weeks wages player in question banned for at least 6 games and the club for which the player comes from deducted 3 points i think you would find this would stop overnight. Punishments for premiership players are a joke outdated by a lot of years these should be looked at
ps. something else that needs stamped out spitting in general, but more so at an opponent BIG fines and BIG bans. and finally instead of yellow and red card punishments we should look at the Sin bins instant punishment

Overpaid lazy players
High entrance fees
Professional Football in general it’s no longer worth watching. I would rather watch local football it’s much more honest.
