Emre charged by the FA
By N.O On Fri 12 Jan 2007 |
From the official FA website:
The FA has charged Newcastle United midfielder Belozoglu Emre with using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words.
The charge relates to an incident during the match against Everton at Goodison Park on 30 December 2006.
He has until 29 January to respond to the charge.

I do not believe that accusations. In Turkey,we have really great sympathy for our chocolate-coloured brothers. We,all the Turks, love them. For example,Pascal Nouma, former forward. He is a chocolate coloured French citizen and Turkey loves him.We do not forget it and as a result he was back again for a movie. In Turkish culture,it is expected to behave people respectfully and Emre comes from this culture. In addition,Emre trys to learn English and I think he needs daily words than the offensive words at first. If I were in his shoes,I would learn common words at first not rude words.

I hope Emre gets the book thrown at him.
The way the Everton player reacted to what he said speaks volumes… He’s a racist and he should be sent back to Turkey.

Emre is a legend and he is a hard player on the field but there is no way he would be a racist. this is a sad moment for me Emre is my Favourite player and i would hate to see his career end because of racist “allegations” he is a champion. He cannot be found guilty because there is no proof of him saying anything it is just what people have said how could he be a racist when he can bearly speak english

If any Everton players want to call Emre anything, I’ll be straight down there and teach them a lesson haha!
We all love you Emre!!

I don’t think he would be racist when for one he’s muslim and if he is racist towards someone then that’s kind of disrepecting his religion and his best mate at Newcastle is Martins!!!!! So why would he say anything!

“on the Sky commentary you can clearly hear someone calling him both a “Turkish bastard†and a “little Turkish twat†in the kerfuffle before the penalty.”
Sky commentators doing a ‘Ron Atkinson’?
Seriously though, that Sky commentary mentioned above would certainly come in handy to Emre’s defence team. If there is no recorded audio proof of Emre saying anything surely it’s just his word against the Everton players. Also, couldn’t Newcastle fans make a complaint about the monkey chants aimed at Martins (as mentioned by NUFC.com)? If the FA ‘invited’ Everton fans to complain about Emre we should be able to complain as well.

Whatever Emre did or didn’t say, on the Sky commentary you can clearly hear someone calling him both a “Turkish bastard” and a “little Turkish twat” in the kerfuffle before the penalty.
There is more to this than meets the eye methinks.

Emre had his fair share of troubles on the pitch…but racism? I don’t think so. Nobody knows what has been said during the match so I can’t comment on that but if he has said anything racist, he should be punished. On the other hand, FA should release all the documentation and relevant information to the public so we all can see who is accusing who of what. We all know he snaps and loses control easily so I assume he could’ve said something… reaction from Howard and Lescott was certainly indicative of that. I hope this doesn’t turn into another Alpay scenario. I also hope the media doesn’t try to brand Emre as a racist person, which I believe he is not. There are rumours in the Turkish media that he will never play in England if FA punishes him, as Emre told the media that he did not say anything racist. I wish Emre could be more professional on the pitch (like Tugay of Rovers). He certainly can do more for the team and his career… I sometimes think he needs to see a shrink and take anger management classes, not joking (flashback to his encounters with Chimbonda and many others). This is serious stuff, might be career ending for him so I hope he comes clean and explains himself to the FA.
