Conclusion?

So Graeme Souness wants to bring in players who have Premiership experience or who can perform in the League, then? Well lets take a look at our Premiership rivals and see who is available, who could be available and who we could potentially attract.

Buying from Southampton?

Having started this series while Southampton were a Premiership team, they are now no longer that having been relegated on the final day of the season and with that, a host of players could well now leave the South Coast for pastures new.

Indeed, if reports are to be believed, they have already turned down a £5m bid for striker Peter Crouch from new European Champions Liverpool.

Many Toon fans feared United would go in for the 6'7' £1.5m signing from Aston Villa in the Summer of 2004, labeling him a donkey but the new England striker is a very good player and those type of tags just show an ignorance and lack of understanding.

Technically very good and with an eye for goal having scored 16 in just 24 starts for the Saints, headers, volleys, tap-ins and long range efforts, I think he has shown he is much more than a lanky beanpole target man.

He would be a very good signing at the right price I feel and is much better than quite a few strikers we have been linked with over the past few months. However at that price, it's a bit too steep and we can do better. But a good player nonetheless.

Moving on there is only one further Southampton player who I wouldn't mind seeing at the Toon - Antti Niemi - but only should Shay Given seek a move away and only as a short-term fix. The Finnish international has proved to be a great buy and is one of the best 'keepers in the League. But at his age, he would be no long-term solution.

Next up, a look at who is available, who could be available and who we could potentially attract from Tottenham Hotspur.
