Conclusion?
So Graeme Souness wants to bring in players who have Premiership experience
or who can perform in the League, then? Well lets take a look at our
Premiership rivals and see who is available, who could be available
and who we could potentially attract.
Buying from Charlton Athletic?
Is there a more nondescript team in the Premiership than Charlton?
And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way either because they are
a cracking little team with a very good manager and they usually do
very well in the League considering their resources. In fact, they
are doing better than Newcastle (not a difficult feat). By nondescript
I mean not one Addicks player stands out.
One player who would have made a very good signing a couple of years
back and a player I would have liked to seen at St. James' Park is
Hermann Hreidarsson who can play at centre-half,
left-back or on the left flank. A technically sound player, good in
the air, good positional sense and good at getting forward. However
at 31 now he's not of the required age.
Another who would have made a decent back-up signing a few years back
is former England under-21 left-back Paul Konchesky but
he hasn't fulfilled his early promise that saw Sir Bobby Robson linked
with him whenever transfer speculation popped up and seems to have
lost his way now, having lost his place in Alan Curbishley's side.
Charlton don't have one player that could possibly take our fancy
or could do a job in the positions we need to strengthen in, not one.
Next up, a look at who is available, who could be available and who
we could potentially attract from Chelsea.
