Your Shout: Newcastle Utd 1-0 Zulte Waragem - Have Your Say
By A.K. Dholakia On Thu 22 Feb 2007 |
Obafemi Martins clipped in a finely taken second-half goal to seal another European win and safely seal Newcastle’s passage into the Last 16 with a 4-1 aggregate, where they will meet AZ Alkmaar, who earlier triumphed over Fenerbache on away goals.

NUFC need to concentrate on the formation, I think they need to concentrate on drawing not winning, winning is nout, losing is horrible so the team needs to sort out there formation.

It was never going to be a game for the purists. All that mattered was that we got through to the next round and pick up no injuries or cards. Bramble always shows how capable he can be, that last gasp foot in saved us. Its just his silly mistakes that always seem to cost us dearly. I dont think anyone knows if Owen and Martins will play well together until it happens but if it does and Owen still wants to be here what a strike force it could be as long as we have the midfield to service them !!

I think the average performance was actually more a good performance in light of the waragem players having every man behind the ball. Its true that we will have to play better than that, but we won, no complaints. Bramble still has a lot to prove considering his and Taylors tackles were on part time Belgians. I thought Butts passing to the wings all night was excellent, and Duff showed signs of being the player we all know he is.For me though Milner was man of the match, whenever he had the ball he was driving forward, linking up play, being creative and overall being a rascal to the opposition, and all this after probably being our worst player last week.

A very average performance. But a very well taken goal. I think that sums it up, to be honest.

Happy with the result it could have been alot worse, all in all poor game but the result was the right one and we set ourselves up nicely.
Alot more worked to be done, but i dont think the performance was a issue, any other team would have gon all out to try get back in the game were as they sat back and played into our hands.
Martins is looking good i would of been happy with 5 goals this season, becuase of his age and fact hes rarly played that much during a regular season 14 goals top notch from the guy, CANT WAIT to see him and Owen up front together.

Duff with an assist aswell which is important, his erformances aren’t great but he got a few assists recently. Its players like him we really need to get us anywhere in this competition, and Butt. Brambl has been outstanding, as was Taylor today. Alkmaar will be a challenge for sure.
