No. It was a proper boxing night, he lost on points in 3 or 4 round bout.

It must be soul-destroying to actually get an appearance in the first team for a Premier League club then less than four years later be on the heap with no club at any level whatsoever.

"He turned down a new contract at Premier League side Newcastle United on 29 June 2006."

How is that O'Brien lad doing. I remember him being the next big thing on here - only time I saw him he got the ball and ran it straight out of play for a goal kick. (Souness' funeral I think). I see he's gone to Hibs but is he doing owt?

Alan O'Brien: a perfect example of pace and nowt else. Made more appearances for Ireland than he did for Newcastle.

Did Brian Kerr come from our academy? I remember watching him for us and thinking he looked pretty decent. He's signed for Hibs over the summer. It says on his wiki that Borussia Dortmund wanted him when he left us.

Looks like it was Kerr. Also scored against Celtic. Seems to be doing alright.

Last I heard of Martin Brittain he was having a trial at Luton, obviously didn't go well. He certainly didn't look anything special as a winger but he looked fairly tidy and played the easy ball, surprised he hasn't found a club in league football to take him on.

I don't remember O'Brien being classed as the next big thing ever tbh.

Paul Robinson - His wiki says "On January 8, 2007, Robinson was declared bankrupt at Sunderland County Court, and announced his intention to switch from playing to become a full-time coach" .

Bit of stuff about him at:

He is the Rooney/Shearer hybrid, only problem was after they gave him the looks they didn't have time to add the talent!

Not a Toon product but Michael Bridges is currently having trials with Sydney FC.
What ever happened to him, he used to be a very good player 4/5 years ago.
