I don't understand this, with an injury of this sort either the bones healed or it hasn't. Surely it must just be a case of match fitness he needs.

Where's the harm in putting him on the bench for say the Spurs game and giving him 15 mins?

On .cock there's a different slant on the scenario. Basically saying he won't be considered for a starting place until he's had a few games under his belt, or unless there's an injury crisis.

Allardyce has been on the radio talking about Barton, it looks as if the break has healed but he needs to regain fitness.

The story is on bbc too.

I'm disappointed, but this reiterates the fact that Emre should be playing.

Or the fact that he still isn't match fit so is being brought back slowly ?

People being worried is down to our last 2 managers rushing people back too soon, they see somebody being brought back to fitness as a sign of a problem.

.cock

JOEY Barton will make his long-awaited return to action on Tuesday night when Newcastle United Reserves face his former club Manchester City.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined since breaking a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly at Carlisle in late July and it had been reported he could face another four weeks out with Sam Allardyce refusing to take any risks with his £5.8m summer signing.

But the United boss has decided that Barton is ready to begin his competitive comeback and will figure in a strong Magpies second-string at the Regional Athletics Arena situated in the shadow of the City of Manchester Stadium.

Barton will be joined by fellow first-team stars Emre, Jose Enrique and Abdoulaye Faye as they too continue their quest for full match fitness.

Lee Clark will start with the following side; Fraser Forster, Mark Bertram, Jose Enrique, Abdoulaye Faye, David Edgar, Emre, Matty Pattison, Joey Barton, James Troisi, Jonny Godsmark, Frank Wiafe Danquah.
Subs: Mark Cook, Darren Lough, Callum Morris, Kazenga LuaLua, Mark Doninger

It also backs up the fact that Emre and Enrique would have featured more at Man City if they had the match fitness.

Yes, but obviously lacked the fitness to play another 90 mins 4 days later.

Tbh im as frustrated as everyone else but if SA does rush these players and they end up getting injured we'll be worse off for it, Over the past few seasons we have had managers who have rushed players back from injuries and it proved to be a mistake.

SA had a good track record when it came to injuries so he does know what he's doing. I expect SA aint liking this midfield and the lack of creativity but i think its a good sign that he hasnt buckled and rushed players back.
