Postage & packaging ranges from about £2 to £4 for people in the Newcastle selling albums

what does where you live have to do with it ?

I'll be selling in the UK only by the way. I think I'll put the first one up for 2.50 or 3 quid postage until I see what the cost is, I suppose that will work OK ?

Nothing really, I just done a search for on people selling albums within 10 miles of my postcode.

I now have to verify.

It says that if you verify, it removes withdrawal and payment limits

Is this a good idea or not ?

During my ban I've pressed on with this, I'm now up and running, but although I have set up a buyers and sellers account, it says I'm still unverified ?

This doesn't make any sense, I've contacted the paypal helpdesk. Does anyone have any ideas ?

Worth avoiding in my opinion, don't use it, either buying or selling.

What happens on some auctions you see is this - say you're bidding on a mobile phone.  But damn you're outbid by someone who pays waaay over the apparent worth of the item.  They 'win' the item.

But wait!  You get an email from the seller, saying they'll accept your MAXIMUM bid for the item... fair eh?  Turns out the one who bid an inordinately high amount was the piss taker.  So fair enough, they'll take what your max bid was, which they now know...

No, this is wrong because they've just got a stooge to bid outlandish amounts so they can get you to pay your max bid amount, rather than the fair amount - that is, just over what the next highest GENUINE bid would have been.  They're abusing the system.

That's just one way that the 2nd chance offer mechanism is abused.  Don't touch it with a barge pole as it's just an easy route for the less scrupulous.

Looking at her feedback etc., I'd say there's strange patterns there that'd indicate they're setting up that account to be used fraudulently at some point, probably on a large value transaction that they don't intend to pay for somehow - using a highish (but falsely built) feedback score as some sort of trust device.

I think royal fuckin mail have lost sommat I had shipped from China last month.  I didn't pay the extra quid for postal insurance (usually do, must have been in a rush when I was paying) and seeing as it was right in the middle of the postal strike I'm more inclined to believe them when they say it was in fact lost in the post rather than not sent/incorrectly addressed by the seller.  What should I do about that do you reckon?  Just write it off and buy another, not leaving any feedback good/neutral/bad?  Or should I chase it up with paypal/ebay?  Only 7 quid like but still.

I was wondering if anyone used scams like this to bump up prices, I've not had it yet because I've only bought a few DVD's and books for small amounts. Don't suppose there is owt that ebay can do about it

It's a balancing act, really - features that make life easier for honest people can, occasionally, make life easier for twats to rip people off.  Best thing is to avoid the channels that they might use rather than waste too much time making judgement calls.

What is it you bought?  Just seems a lot of trouble to get something shipped from China when it's a relatively inexpensive item.

If they can claim that it was posted (in most cases it has been, the potential hassle doesn't make ripping someone off for £7 or so worth doing) then ebay/paypal won't step-in.  Have you got in touch with the seller though?  They might be sympathetic, give it a go.  If it's something they have a lot of stock for, you might get lucky and they'll supply another for the sake of goodwill.

Otherwise would order again, though from someone else just to remove risk - never know, they might be rip-off merchants, and would be s*** for it to be 'lost' again.

Pair of slippers for the missus with a japanese character she liks on em, can't get em shipped from this country.  Might give it a bit longer then just order again. this time with the postal insurace.  A laser pen/torch I ordered from China took about a month thanks to the strike so there's still hope.  Buy a lot of stuff from Hong Kong, never usually have any trouble and it's usually cheaper and with a bigger range for certain products.

Asked the seller when it had been posted and got back

Hi there, regret to hear that the postal striked in last few weeks. The item has been already sent out on 2nd Oct. I am afraid they have lost it.

What Japanese character?  Only curious as my missus does stuff like embroidering onto garments. Smile

2nd chance offer is well worth using
ive used it about 15times from stuff i have sold and you get the nearest bid to the winning one
you only lose about £2 from what you actually got!
