Paypal is a way of paying for stuff via an email address. You can literally pay someone's email address, it takes the money from your account then wires it to their Paypal. They then take it out. You get various protections that you wouldn't get otherwise.
This is for buying though, I've never sold on there.

You should be cool for selling. Remember, add daft delivery money as they always pay it, and you get to make off that as well. Watch out for Nigerian scammers, although i doubt you will have any trouble since they are after £100+ electrical goods like mobiles and laptops. "My son is away laying pipes in Africa and he needs a new mobile, is it ok if you send it to Africa etc, etc..." You might struggle at first since you've got no feedback, if you live in or around Whitley Bay there is a shop on Station Rd called 'Whit-E-bay' or something along those lines. They sort it all out for you for a price, never used it but if you've got loads of small things to sell then it could be worth your while giving them a quick ring and finding out their T&Cs properly.

I'd obviously prefer to sell these within the UK, do I have to take the top bid, ?
Can I specify UK only ?

You can put a reserve on the item too, if it's not met then you keep your items.

tks for the replies.
I register. Then accept paypal [do I need anything for this ?]. I can specify UK only. I must accept the top bid, which is fine if it is UK only.
Do I then send the album or book before getting the money, how do you know it is going smoothly.
I realise these things are fairly small items so if someone doesn't send the money it won't be much, but from what I'm told, most people pay up OK

You wait until you have recieved a payment for the item that your selling first mate, then ship it to wherever the buyer is from. You can note that you only want to deal with UK users only in the item description

i think it is £50 or higher just start bidding off at a price that you want but not too high because it doesnt attract peoples attention as much

Also if you decide to buy, read how much the postage is cos its no good winning the bid then finding out that you are getting charged £30 for postage for a book. tbf to eBay they have started asking punters if they think the postage was fair.

Sorry for the questions like It'll end up in your 'paypal' account. Like you say, a secure holding account. You can set up your Paypal account using your debit card (you can also use credit cards for purchases). Once you have the cash in your paypal account you can withdraw it to your normal debit account. There are costs accrued though so be careful. Check the postal insurance for records too. Obviously you want them to get there in once piece. If they don't then you will get negative feedback if you don't refund (in all probability). You might want to state a few things about the sale on your description e.g. UK bidders only, none with less than 10 feedbacks etc (you an set that up anyway but people always try).

I didn't mention that when you open a paypal account they send you 2 payments to your account both less than a quid and once they have been deposited those numbers are your security numbers to VERIFY your account its like one of the lads said in a previous post its a ball ache but saying that if you are buying it dosnt cost to send money but if you are selling, its like what you say people pay into your account at paypal, and you transfer it to your live bank account less their commission. Important Note: be very aware of scammers read the forums on eBay to find out about this and never send the item before the money is in your account. its all to do with FEEDBACK and there are some that wont touch you if you've got no feedback at all. hope this has been of some use to you

My paypal has a direct debit set up to my current account, it takes money out when it needs it and will pay money in if I asked (I use the paypal money for paypal purchases instead though, you don't have to pay so many fees).

thanks to everybody for all the replies.
When you transfer from paypal, do you need to have online access to your current account ie to use your debit card number ?
If not, how do you transfer the money. I don't have an online bank account and don't particularly want one.
This is more complicated than I thought :coolsmiley
To recap :
use credit card to register with ebay ?
setup paypal using debit card [current bank account] ? [not sure if I like this bit to be honest]
Could you setup a building society account or a secondary bank account instead, just to handle these small amounts of money from the sales and keep it in there ?

No reason why you couldnt set up another account but you need your account number and sort code from that. They are stored on the Paypal system. It's pretty safe, never had any bother myself until you get past £4500 worth of sales and they need you to verify youre not money laundering. I am sure I set mine up with my debit card and current account details. No reason to have a credit card on there unless you are going to buy with it. When money is transferred you simply say pay 'x' amount to your account from your Paypal account. You don't really need online banking. I use it just to check the money has transferred and that takes about a week (sometimes less). You can set it up to pay directly to your account though. To recap, all they really need is an account number and sort code if you are only selling. Easier to set it up with your current account but I accept that there is some danger there. Nb: never reply to anything outside of the My Ebay thing - genuine emails go to that with a reminder to your email inbox. However, s*** loads of bogus emails are sent asking you to change your password etc...all bogus.

I've stupidly experienced with ebay, so if you have any problems let me know.
I'd buy some things before you starting selling, best way to get a feel for the whole thing. Plus, I'd never buy from someone with a 0 ebay rating. As it's just too much of a risk.
I have an ebay score of 828

many thanks for all the replies, including a few pm's. I've got an account setup and ready now, quite looking forward to it too, and may start buying stuff off the internet Ground breaking stuff for someone like me, who binned my Barclaycard 20 years ago when they decided to charge for it Has anyone ever sold LP's ? If so, how much approximately is the postage ? And how much do ebay charge to sell an item, or a single LP record for instance ?

what does where you live have to do with it ? I'll be selling in the UK only by the way. I think I'll put the first one up for 2.50 or 3 quid postage until I see what the cost is, I suppose that will work OK ?
