Caribou are at Independent in Sunderland for a fiver
Just got back from Iron & Wine at the Sage. People weren't happy he avoided the solo acoustic stuff and never played the Trapeze Swinger. I, on the other hand, think that track is dirge and far prefer the full band of his new album, so I had a cracking night.
Saw them a couple weeks ago, much preferred to his solo snore fest material. I went with a mate who had nobody else to go with and pleasantly surprised, I was. Iron and Whine fans must be loners like, exactly the same reason I got dragged up. Also, how good are Caribou? Dan Snaith is a knob, (met him a few times, he dated a girl I wanted to) but he makes killer tunes.
FYP They're quality. I'm a bit worried that if it's just a fiver it's just going to be a dj set rather than a Caribou show though. Nah, he dated her in High School and they were just friends when he came to visit. She's a touch on the unbalanced side, her nick name was 'Crazy' and she was cool with that. They both lived in the mighty Dundas Ontario, woo! Junior Boys are from there too. Yeah, sounds like it could just be a DJ set, which is kinda boring and plus you have to venture into Unwashed territory. Checking their Myspace page it looks like it's a full band. That gig just so happens to be on my birthday. Hmm... they play here on the 10th. I think I have something going on that night.

El día de los muertos, don't know if it's going to be much of a gig, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at free Corona, am I!! Have a funny feeling that a Spanish geezer I know is playing at it and all, he plays this box type thing, it's a bit weird really. https://manchester.cervantes.es/Cultura/Fichas/Ficha45557_44_2.htmOh and going to get my Mos Def, Aim, Herbaliser, and Broke n English ticket tomorrow and all.

I would want to go myself, but 6 grand.... could solve a few problems! They will probably release a few songs after the concert, or at least play some new stuff during the concert. Plant's already said that whenever they're back together, things flow and they end up just jamming and creating new stuff, so don't be surprised if there's actually a mini-tour after this 'one-off' concert. Page hasn't done anything of note in ages and Plant's just finished some collaboration with a country singer so he's free as a bird.

The best part about these bands breaking up way back in the 70's is the shitty music they come up with 30 years later.

Went to see Arcade Fire last night, it was very good but not in the same class as last time. Wyn was being a bit of a prick, having some sort of a whinge about something. Still, when they launched into Power Out I almost came.

Aye, they were really good. Power Out was immense. Yeah, highlight for me. I take it you were there, did you hear him saying he'd never play Nottingham again? He seemed really f***** off most of the time, although running through the whole crowd for Wake Up was amazing. Couple of disappointing omissions for me, most notably Windowstill and Crown of Love.

Saw an utter shitfest last night. I thought I was going to a play. If only.
It was actually the auld silent film Nosferatu with the soundtrack provided a live post-rock band called Jazzfinger. Let me get this out the way now:
Jazzfinger are the worst f****** band I have ever heard in my entire f****** life.
Nearly 2 hours of ear-splitting drones and screeches that bore absolutely no relation to what was happening on the screen. Genuinely more like an Abu Ghraib torture room than an entertaining night out. If those c***s got paid it's an injustice on a scale never before seen by humankind. If you know anyone in this band, kill them now. Do it quickly, make it painful.

No, I didn't hear him say that. I was too far away from the stage to notice whether he was pissed off or not. Aye, he came right down the side we were on.

I didn't hear him say anything about Nottingham either. Thought the first support band Wild Light were good, think I'll keep an eye out for them. Wasn't too impressed with Clinic though.

Might catch them on Monday, if I don't have to work. Haven't really listened to them too much, but they seem good enough for a concert
