if alonso went back to renault you reckon he would still be a championship challenger?
Well he claims to have made the McLaren half a second a lap faster this year, so if he could do that to Renault they'd be right back up there. Personally I think there's every chance Renault will be challenging for the title again next year, but only if they have Alonso in their team. Fisi is past it.

Not unless they have got some seriously good new stuff in the pipeline for next year. There's only been one man in recent years who could become world champion in an inferior car and for the majority of the time he was actually in the best car and that's Schumaker. Alonso's good, but not that good.

Alonso's good, but not that good. Solid, reliable engines with competitive pace, nail that and Renault could sort it out with Alonso. If he put his heart and soul into the car, he can tune it and squeeze time out of it like any good champ should be able to do so.

At what age do drivers normally retire
I got a question, i remember when schumacher and barichello were the ferrari people, why did barichello leave them? wasn't he good?
Whenever they lose there edge, usually mid 30's to late 30's. Usually the time they lose their edge is when they have kids. Rubens was a support act, bridesmaid never the bride. Probably got bored like the rest of us with Schumacher winning all the time. Ah right ok So was schumacher winning all the time cos he was mint? or just a good car? Both. Ferrari dominance, had by far the best technical team possibly in F1 history, and Schumacher, the man himself was a machine. German efficiency, without a doubt. For the last 5 or so years this I would agree but for a number of seasons Schuey was driving in a clearly inferior cars but would consistently challenge/win the title. I'm referring to the Villeneuve/Hakkinen years in particular. the word efficiency has connotations of Chelsea like "doing enough, cautious, boring" performances. Schumacher was a very aggressive driver and had an iron will to win. He would attempt the most audacious over-taking moves but would shut the door if anyone tried to do the same thing to him. By some distance the best driver of his generation. He did wonders at Renault and Ferrari (winning their first drivers championship in 30-something years.) But his dominance did ruin the sport for a number of years... his mere presence no doubt shadowed alot of the other drivers. No doubt he pulled them out of a difficult period, i sometimes forget about it simply because of the later years, and i'm not labeling him as a boring driver, maybe at the time yes, as i was bored with the sport, but looking back he was just simply far too good for everyone else. But his presence and the dominance of Ferrari meant the sport declined rapidly, and it was a one horse race with Rubens backing him up all the way. Aye. When Rubens arrived in the team & Mika left the sport, the competition was pretty dire. LOL @ everyone thinking Montoya would seriously rival Schumacher. For my money Raikonnen is a better driver than Alonso. I don't think he could win the title again in a Renault whilst Kimi (or Lewis) are in a better car. interesting to see how Alonso reacts next year. Although he's won 2 titles at a very young age I wouldn't put him at the same level as Schumacher or Hakinnen when they won 2 titles. Maybe it's his style of racing but I don't rate him as highly as a double-world Champion probably deserves.

I don't so much think it's ridiculous that they've appealed, but I think it's ridiculous that the saga is just dragging on and on and will seemingly never end.

They've got a cheek really with all the recent let-offs Lewis has had.
Should just let it go and come back stronger next year

I really hope that the appeal from Mclaren will not affect the fact that Kimi is the new champion.I think it would be unfortunate if the decision is going to be change because I think Kimi truly deserve it.

Yes but right now if the decision to award Kimi as the champion is overturn by this tragic news,it will do nothing good on Alonso so theres no point.Hamilton struggled in the last race and he dont deserve to be the champion. If Alonso can managed to finish in 3rd place under the same circumstances, then I dont see any reason why Lewis cant do the same. And it is only right to let the current decision stay on.

https://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/63581But if McLaren's appeal is successful and the three drivers are penalised, Hamilton could gain enough points to take the world title away from Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Alonso reckons such a situation could have dire consequences for F1's reputation.
"It would be a joke, and we've had too many already," he told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. "If something like that happened, it would end up burying the sport." Agreed. If that happens it's just futher proof that its all played in the cabinets and the racing means f*** all. We've seen the hints with Mr Hamilton's "penalties" already.

This ^^ BMW's and Renault's fuel was couple degrees too cold giving them at max one seconds advantage. The race stewards decided that it wasnt enough to disqualify them. And now McLaren appeals to FIA. Anything can happen at this point and going by the previous decisions where Hamilton was involved Im expecting the worst...

I'm sorry but people saying that Alonso isn't that good must be off their heads. Whether he is at McLaren or not next year i do think he will win the title next year. No better driver than him i think techinically. The only person that parallels in comparison is Raikkonen.

Ooooo...prepare for something incredible The outcome has upset former world champion Damon Hill, who has accused F1's race stewards of exercising double standards.
He feels McLaren have been on the wrong side of FIA decisions on more than one occasion this season while other teams have escaped censure.
"It does get quite difficult to see where the consistency lies," Hill told Radio 5live.
"If you go back to the beginning of the season, McLaren's argument is that Ferrari won the very first race using a device which was later found to be illegal by the FIA.
"They removed it but the result stood.
"It's very unsettling to have this appeal, but there is so much at stake and the FIA have to find somehow a way of being consistent.
"I can see how a couple of degrees fuel temperature can be regarded as being so negligible that it wouldn't make any difference.
"But we're talking about such tiny differences all the time in Formula One, there has to be a line where you're one side or the other." Has he been around AT ALL this season. Talking about lack of consistency against McLaren Maybe all those years with high G-forces have softened his head?

Typical really, all the former British drivers have their heads so far up Hamiltons ass that they would say this. I don't think he has done enough to deserve it really, i don't really like him tbh.
