Newcastle United will entertain Championship side Barnsley at St James Park following the draw for the 2nd round of the Carling Cup on Thursday evening.

The tie, which will take place on the week commencing Monday 27th August, is one which Big Sam’s side will be expected to win comfortably, although they cannot afford to be complacent with the Championship team looking to cause an upset.

Other ties in the round include local Wearside rivals Sunderland making the trip to Luton Town and the Boro coming up against Northampton at the Riverside.
