“Milner has loads of talent and he will be a good player for us in the future but £5m is too much to pay for someone who isn’t going to walk into the team. I’m pleased we signed him but disappointed we felt we needed yet another youngster.”

“Not sure to be honest it depends on where he plays or even if he plays at all. He could become a very good player but at the moment I don’t think he is in many people’s strongest XI. We need players who are going to improve our team not our squad, Milner currently does the latter. I would have preferred a player who would go straight into the first-team. £5m is a bit over the top as well.”

“£5m for a 18year old, but this “kid” is absolute class, ask any Leeds fan. My brother in law is and he is gutted and amazed that Leeds would sell such a talented player. In a bad and disorganised team he was a true star last season and I’m so pleased we’ve got him. Let’s give the lad a chance, he didn’t make the £5m tag - Leeds did and I firmly believe it will prove to be Bobby’s best bit of Business.”

“At last…some new legs to freshen up the squad. Some people have been quick to play down Milner’s ability but he’s a quality player, and we have problems on both flanks if you ask me, so therefore he suits the bill perfectly. I’m not denying that he’s still raw and Bobby’s youth policy hasn’t been entirely successful, but the kid clearly has some talent from which we can benefit. Give the kid a bit of support before scrutinising him straight away.”

“Still undecided but he’s here now so we have to give Bobby our full backing. Don’t like the fact he cost so much money considering his age and experience but that’s British football for you. I look forward to seeing him pull on the shirt at St. James’ Park”
