Toon Interest Confirmed, But No Deals Yet!

Graeme Souness has confirmed an interest in Scott Parker and Emre while he has admitted he rates Daniel Van Buyten but has had no contact whatsoever with the player. It's also worth noting that the season ticket renewal deadline is fast approaching...

Souness on Parker:

"Scott Parker is a player we like very much and we are definitely interested in signing him.

"He is a player I have admired for a very long time and there is no question he will be an excellent signing for us.

"He is good on the ball and is one of the brightest young midfielders in the Premiership. He is a top player and is precisely the calibre of player Newcastle United are interested in signing.

"He had a fantastic game for Chelsea when they beat us in the Carling Cup at St. James's Park last season, but that just confirmed what I already knew about him. I'd like him to sign for us.

"I don't know how far down the line things are. I just identify the players I want to sign and then it is up to the chairman to get the signatures sorted out. He is working very hard to make sure that happens, but we will have to wait and see.

"We're both working to bring a group of top players to Newcastle United and things are advancing. I can't say at the moment exactly who they will all be, but we have identified them and are trying to make sure they are playing for us next season."

Souness on Emre:

"Emre is a player we know and he is a player we like the look of.

"I don't know how it has been leaked out, but yes we've expressed an interest in him.

"But it is wrong to say that we have made a bid for him or that we have already held talks with him about a move to Newcastle."

Souness on Van Buyten

"He is another player we are aware of and who I rate, but we have not held talks with him and I have not made him any promises at all.

"Anyway, I don't think Hamburg are prepared to sell and I can understand why."

Nobby Solano Retires

From playing international football for his Country Peru that is, reports claim today. Solano told Sky Sports News:

It's time to give opportunities to other players.

"Now I have to focus on my club. I have to talk with Aston Villa's board to see what my situation is in the squad.

"If Peru want to return to a World Cup, the different coaching processes have to be respected and there have to be experienced people to manage the situation.

"But I'm sure that this won't change with (coaches) Freddy Ternero or Paulo Autuori or any more experienced boss."
