Kieron Dire - A Crying Shame

Recent reports that our much hyped No. 8 was "close to tears" after our 2-1 win over Southampton due to being on the receiving end of abuse from an alleged hand full of United fans Saturday evening, will have further alienated him from the masses and I for one have no sympathy whatsoever and if anything, the article in the Chronicle further emphasizes why his presence at the club is universally regarded as an insult to those of us who pay his over-inflated wages.

The story, no doubt engineered to make the 'poor lad' look like the 'victim' in all this, has back-fired and spectacularly. It has stoked up feelings that lay dormant, but never ever out of mind amongst genuine Toon supporters who were, prior to the reports, prepared to live and let live. Transfer Talk: Toon Double Deal?

According to today's Chronicle Newcastle are lining up a £10m double swoop for Portsmouth pair, Nigerian international striker Yakubu and Senegalese midfielder Amdy Faye who emerged as a shock transfer target last night although no quotes from the club nor the player suggest he is indeed a genuine target.

Alan Oliver reporting on the story claims: "While there is still quite a lot of talking to do, there is a feeling at St. James' Park that both could be United players by the time the transfer window closes a week on Monday."

Remember this is the same journalist that reported Brett Emerton would be a United player by the end of the week - in July 2003, and that Wayne Rooney preffered Tyneside to Manchester...

In other news various papers are reporting that we'll up our bid for Distin to £7m and Sammy Kuffour doesn't want to leave Bayern Munich until the Summer. Whether there is any substance in any of the recent rumours or not, it does seem likely that Souness will add at least another new face to his squad. Watch this space!
