Just watched The Darjeerling Express (Wes Anderson) and Eastern Promises (Chronenberg).  Both class films I'd recommend to anyone.

Viggo kills it in Eastern Promises, just like he did in A History Of Violence.

Oh yes. He has that lean killer look about him.

Wink Have you seen it?

It was on at the Hamburg film festival a couple of weeks ago.

I thought it was Chronenberg's best to date.

No way is it anywhere near Cronenberg's best.

Regarding Darjeeling Ltd., Andersen and Schwartzman were at the Cumberland last Wednesday evening, and we went down all the way from fuckin' Brampton to see them, and, of course, the Andersen groupies had camped out the night before and all the tickets for the Q&A were sold out. Emo bastards.

So we walked around downtown smokin' up.

My mate was there and talked to both Schwartzman and Anderson.  Said they were unbelievably down to earth and were willing to answer every question posed there way.  I had to work late and couldn't make it over.

eXistenZ was s****, as was Crash.  A History of Violence was awesome, The Fly was good (almost ruined by the sequel), Scanners was horrible (blasted Cinema class in Uni made me watch that),  The Dead Zone was good....  ummm....  I think that's all I've seen of his.  Anyway, to each their own.  Oh!  Spider was okay.   Still, I'm a massive fan of his work.

eXistenZ and Crash weren't quite as good as I'd imagined.

Eastern Promises is up there and competing for his best imo.

The old fella/Mafia Boss was very good.  I didn't doubt his character one bit.  Naomi Watts on the other hand was a bit weak.

I quite liked eXistenZ - I'm a sucker for that "what is reality?" thing, always have been - although it's essentially a remake/re-imagining of Videodrome really.

Yeah, I dunno, I just didn't "buy it", the plot.  A bit too hokey.

Finally got round to buying Dead Mans Shoes on Friday and watching it tonight.  I thought I was impressed by This Is England, but this blew it out of the water.  I'm going to watch it again later on, but I already know it's going to be a long term favourite.

And I can only apologise for taking so long to see it.  I know it's a well loved film on here.

Oh no, no, no, no, no, come on lads. How can you deem Crash to be so lowly? It's not only Cronenberg's masterpiece, it's one of the best and most original films to have come out of the G.W. North. I'm a sucker for Cronenberg's sexual deviances on metal. Why does the feel of steel turn us on, and that of twisted, burning, metal, the smell of flesh simmering amongst the spilt gasoline.

I better stop, getting into far too personal territory here Wink.

His movie-list included Potemkin, Kane, Otto e Mezzo, The
Seven Samurai, Alphaville, El Angel Exterminador. "You've been brainwashed," Gibreel scoffed. "All this Western art-house
crap...your head's so full of junk," he advised Saladin, "you forgot
everything worth knowing."
The Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie.

Guy Debord and the Aesthetics of Cine-Sabotage

Just as the projection was about to begin, Guy-Ernest Debord was supposed to step onto the stage and make a few introductory remarks. Had he done so, he would simply have said: 'There is no film. Cinema is dead. No more films are possible. If you wish, we can move on to a discussion.'

I like Crash a lot Deej. Just the last two films have a very firm immediacy about them.

Not seen many of his films, after loving History of Violence I tried Naked Lunch and it tempered my keenness to try the rest of his back catalogue.

Spider (shot in London) is very good. And has that timeless feel about it like a Pinter play or summat.
