Isn't that just cause we were playing them? He never watched a game with the idea of buying Luque or scouting LUQUE. That is a totally different kind of watching as you know.

Is that the tiny patter of a pair of backtracking feet I hear?  tongue.gif

Juan Román Riquelme doesn't run for shit, doesn't close down to save his life and he is adored at Villarreal (it grated me when at Barça, mind!).

Anyway, can't comprehend the Luque hate here in England. The guy's great and I would have him at Barça in 5 minutes. Nopey, he has never been known for working his head off in a game but he was a key player for Mallorca, Depor and Spain during the WC qualification.

Comparing Luque to Riquelme is ridiculous tbh.  Maybe if you'd watched Luque play for Newcastle you'd understand why there aren't many people with any time for the bloke.

Gemmills sentance of the week

Not really, this just happens to have been a week where you've compared Martins to Schevchenko, Luque to Henry and now someone is comparing Luque to Riquelme.  If people weren't making such preposterous comparisons I wouldn't have to keep picking them up on it.  bluebigrazz.gif

I know I was comparing there type of game or situation being new to this league as was village comparing it to the type of player he is. You just think that if you give the impression we are comparing them like for like skill wise it gives your argument weight. I was using my comparisons as situations not anything else.

The longest word in the English language, according to the
Oxford English Dictionary,
is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis .
The only other word with the same amount of letters is
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconioses , its plural.

The longest place-name still in use is
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukak apikimau
ngahoronukupokaiwenuakitanatahu, a New Zealand hill.

He 'watched' him, but he didn't watch him.

The proof is in the pudding my dear. bluewink.gif

Luque was recruited on the word of Micheal Robinson over a phone call. Souness never watched a single Depor game ( or our scouts) with the express intention of checklisting Luque. When you scout a player that is going to cost millions there is normally a 5 page scouting checklist that goes with it.
Maybe we don't do that I don't know. But GS never watched a single game with the intention of vetting LUQUE. That is a fact.

I must say that here in Spain we were all pretty "WTF?", when NUFC came in overbidding FC Barcelona for Luque. Apparently you also surpassed our wages offer.

HTT on Kevin Keegan.  The glory days are back on N-O.  This is the sort of quality I look for in a forum.

Badly cluttered forums are a disease, HTT's the cure is what I say tbh.

That's pretty much our MO tbh.  We did the same with Owen.  It's the only way we can compete with the likes of Barca or Liverpool for signings.

Our transfer dealings are frequently bewildering.  For instance we paid £8.5m to Rangers for Boumsong, who they got on a free transfer

The FA used to be one of my clients about 7 years ago and I used to talk to some of the coaching bods there. Mind you if I was buying a player I would buy on my gut instict which is finely honed and never lets me down.  bluebiggrin.gif

What is Luque's best position?

Left forward. Has been used as a second striker on occasion, but that's not his best position.

Well there you go, he's a total misfit then.  Bought for a system the current manager won't use and a position that doesn't exist.  That - coupled with a long term injury, poor showing on the pitch for the reserves and first team, and perhaps a general lack of effort in training till relatively recently - I think explains why he's not getting a game.  The manager plainly can't wait till Jan to ship him out.
More alarming that Souness bought him and did'nt play a 4-3-3 either.

I don't think Souness had a clue what he was doing tbh.  It has all the hallmarks of a panic buy.

Aye, the same bloke thought Parker/Emre would be an ideal partnership anarl. Wink

But without signing the second one on the list, we'd not have received £15m or whatever in Champions League money the following year.

I was comparing Luque to Riquelme not in terms of ability (I still think Riquelme is vastly overrated, mind!), but because that they are 2 players which were reviled for the same reasons (lack of "commitment" not "closing down", etc...).

I think everyone realises that. The point is that you are missing the point.....
