I didn't see the West Ham game, but as tmonkey says, he was up against inexperienced centre backs

Shearers general play against West Ham was far better then I've seen it for a long time.  He looked like the Shearer of a season or two ago in every aspect of his game (movement, passing, aggression, shot power).  He was moving into midfield and turning better then he has for ages, laying off passes and playing players in out wide quickly and with confidence, none of that has anything to do with the centre backs.  So I agree completely that this operation really has helped him a great deal.

Theres an If.. who knows Newcastle may well qualify coming 4th but if that scenario does occur

If Chelsea win the Champions League then doesn't that mean 5th will also be a qualifying place in the Premiership?

On Boxing Day the striker will run out at Anfield wearing a Newcastle shirt. But, says Rafael Benítez, it won't be long before he returns for good. Michael Walker reports

Won't be long?.. they get that from "He might return one day", what a joke.  Yeah Owen might return to Liverpool one day, when he's 30 something, by then he might be in there price range (maybe).

From what I've heard and read, it seems to me that Liverpool fans could take him or leave him. No one seems desperate for him.

I'm sure that's the case now that they don't have him in there team and likely never will again.  What's the point in acting as if you really want a player when you know its not going to happen?

Quote
er no? What a strange reaction

Desperate teams spend money like it's going out of fashion on one or two star players to appease unhappy fans. When anyone with half a brain knows they would be better off using the money to get a good manager and strengthen the TEAM rather than sign a couple individuals.

I think he was referring to the national papers, not Liverpool themselves.

Oh and since when is Owen, Emre, Luque, Solano, Parker and Moore "a couple of individuals".  Get your facts straight..

That's what the Leeds fans said as well.

With the wages you're paying most of your squad, another £15+m fee and £70/80k wages has got to be considered a risk.

Do you actually have quotes from these Leeds fans you always refer to?  Because I'd really like to hear exactly what they did say..

There wage to turnover ratio was in the high 60 to 70% range and that was with Champions League Football.  Anyone with half a brain should have been able to see that if Champions League Football was lost there wages would be totally unsustainable.  Because the majority of there revenue came from Champions League and Premiership TV/prize money.

Our situation is nothing like there's, we have no European Football to lose and have a wage to turn over ratio around the low 40's.  So what exactly can happen to us to put us in the kind of situation Leeds got into?  Short of relegation from the Premiership nothing.. so please, give this tired old Leeds/Newcastle argument a rest..

Against Arsenal we were very lucky to have such a lenient referee, on another day we could have seen two red cards and been hammered. We seem to be riding our luck and our league position of 10th is quite fitting for such a team.

Riding our luck?  blueeek.gif  Players sent off for nothing, numerous obvious penalties ignored, balls being handled off the line by the opposition, balls being saved over a foot over the line and no goal given and relentless injuries to all our best players.. if that's luck then I hope I never have any.

Can't agree about the ref against Arsenal either.

Decent enough opinion, other then this:

When Gérard Houllier was sacked, a lot of Liverpool fans wanted a return to an English manager, as it's an easy thing to suggest. But the board ignored them and went out and got the best manager in Europe.

Since when was Benitez definitively the best manager in Europe?..

uque has now started three games for United but, with eight games in four days when Souness will look to spread the load, especially as Ameobi was not exactly flavour of the month after the way he conceded that penalty at West Ham.

Bloody hell, two games a day for four days!!

10  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Will Owen get 20+ League Goals? on: December 18, 2005, 06:24:28 PM
It all depends on injuries.  You can't really go by his record of 7 goals in 8 games because in the end while he's only played 8 games Newcastle have played 17.  If his goals keep coming at the same rate but his injuries also keep up at the same rate that would mean 15-16 goals.  I'd say 18-20 goals is most likely though.
11  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Luque: What The Hell's Going On? on: December 18, 2005, 06:15:11 PM
Very disappointing not to see him come off the bench today, surely he couldn't have done any worse than Shola.

My guess is that the physio's have said that he needs to be eased back into the squad/team over a period of a few weeks. Put it this way i don't think Souey would leave him out if he was fully fit after pursueding the chairman to part with 10m quid for him.

Maybe

The thing is though he doesn't seem to be getting eased in as much as eased out at the moment.  After recovering from his injury he played 39 minutes against Everton.  The next game against Wigan he played 57 minutes, at that point he was being eased in.  But then he only played 9 minutes agianst Villa and didn't get on the pitch at all against Arsenal or West Ham, there's something wrong there.  Souness needs to tell us what's going on.
12  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Luque: What The Hell's Going On? on: December 18, 2005, 06:09:07 PM
I saw a glimpse of Luque yesterday and he did look a lot thinner (Fitter). People are probably worring over nothing. Luque will be back soon

Yep, i think we are some of the only people with any faith that he will come good left on this board. I cannot wait to see what he will be liuke on the left wing with Owen and Shearer up top...

*Drool*

I have a lot of faith in him, so that makes three of us Smile

I suppose if they haven't put another match in its place and they're just talking in the studio instead then they must be going to show it.  Unless they're just going to talk for the next hour and 35 minutes so they stay exactly on schedule
16  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: KO put back by 30mins on: December 17, 2005, 03:03:07 PM
Does Art Sport do a summing up at the end of each game (talking about the game, replays ect)?  If so they could possibly just cut that part out to keep on schedule.  I've never noticed if they do or not since where I am they just turn it over to Sky when the match ends.

Unchanged team from the one that played against Arsenal.  Apparently that's good news according to the commentator on Metro...  blueupset.gif  Where the **** is Luque?  What's going on??

I'll assume that was a joke as surely nobody could be stupid enough to believe that.

Postponed is quite a bit different to delayed for 30 minutes though so hopefully not.
