The other great lie, of course, is the "i'm a Geordie" - he needs to look up the definition and i don't think it had anything in about being born in Cumberland.

Football / NUFC / Re: G14 and FIFA
|

............ are on collision course over stipulating a mandatory umber of home grown players. Fifa must drop a proposal to limit the number of foreign players fielded by European clubs or face legal action, says Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein. Fifa boss Sepp Blatter has proposed that European clubs must field a minimum of six home players.
But Dein, chairman of the G14 group of top clubs, said: "This is totally illegal and it will be challenged.
"If Fifa want to light a fire then so be it, but it will be a very hot one. I hope this idea doesn't go any further."
G14, which represents 18 of Europe's richest clubs, is at odds with the world governing body over a number of issues.
It is also involved in two court cases related to the release of international players and compensation should they get injured.
Dein said: "I appeal to FIFA for a period of calm. We are currently on the road to resolving a lot of the problems in the game, so there is no need to cause any more headaches."
Blatter believes his rule would protect the game at national level and bring clubs closer to the fans.
However, many within the sport, including European football's governing body Uefa, think the proposal is a breach of European law and rules of a free labour market in the European Union https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6219798.stmI don't know how how strong the legal case is but, liking to see English players and Academy products coming through, I hope FIFA win this one. Interesting that it is Arsenal who are bleeting the loudest on this
Trouble is i don't think FIFA can win this one - it does contrivene EU labour laws which are adopted in all EU countries (well apart from France and Germany who seem to get away with flouting them!!). Perhaps FIFA should go for the inclusion of 6 EU nationals regarding European teams - that might just appeal to the EU bureaucrats and also let the G14 off the hook in the short term. Just an idea!!! |

Football / NUFC / Re: Which British clubs do you dislike the most
|
on: December 01, 2006, 11:53:42 AM

Chelsea - Have taken over from Manure as the most arrogant set of w****rs on this planet. Think because they are an excuse to launder vast amounts of very shady Russian money does not mean they can do what they hell they want. This is a club which reminds me of Oscar Wildes description of a cynic - "know the price of every thing and the value of nothing". Truly a classless set up. Also don't like their fans who split off into two different groups - the knuckle dragging NF/BNP Neanderthals and the last two year glory hunters who have probably hidden their old Manure shirts in the bottom drawer.
Manure - Two things - the majority of their 'fans' and as the team that Bobby Charlton played for (so dislike goes back a canny few years). As regards their fans the Salford / Sale / Bury set are pretty good , very loyal and completely p****d off about the plastic fans, but the glory seeking set of 'unihed' gobshites from Lahndan and dahn saff really make me laugh. Show them a map of Manchester and it's " where's 'at mahte". Met one from Milton Keynes who thought Manchester was 3 miles from the Scottish border - absolute "t***r". As for that sanctimonous creep Charlton - can't stand the man. Shat on his family, shat on his region - just an obnoxious snob. As an Ashington lad i have nothing but derision for the man.
Everton - Went off them big style when went to that ramshackled set of bus stops and sheds that they laughingly call a football ground and had a cup full of human s**t thrown at us as i was walking with a set of mates to the away end. Monkeys throw s**t , humans do not (seems to be a scouse thing cause didn't Liverpool fans alledgedly throw some at the Manure fans last season). Set of bitter w****rs who can't get over the success of their rivals across Stanley Park. Play crap football, have the most whinging manager in the Premiership (should go back to pulling pints for Homer in the Simpson's) and have that obnoxious little aussie t**t Cahill playing for them - good footballer but think his attitude of stepping on a football pitch with the objective of maiming fellow professionals needs seriously looking into, he would never stay on a football field if i was the ref.
Tottigham - could write a thesis on these set of delusional w****rs - but will leave it others imagination. Lahndan crap at it's worst - give me Arsenal anyday.
Mackems - irrevelant. |

Football / NUFC / Re: Your free scarf...

Has anyone actually written to or called NUFC to let them know that they did not receive their scarf?
Just wondered because I guarentee that there are some left, there were only 48k people at the game on Sunday and I recon they will have bought at least 55k scarves so somewhere there will be some left......
Worth a try?
Unfortunately i was late (f*****g Metro Centre traffic) and they'd run out at my turnstile. I was happy to accept that but when i got up stairs and the greedy bastard on my right had 3 under his seat then I was a bit miffed so say the least - they were for his bairns he claimed. So on that basis i have e-mailed the club to see if they can provide me one considering they'd promised scarves for ALL supporters AT THE GAME. I just think there's a principle here and why should some suffer due to the greed of certain individuals. I did say please and await a response. Would be really interested in know what their response was. I also got to the game late as the Metro's were all running late (and were full to bursting point) but, my turnstyle on the Milburn Stand had plenty of scarves, they even had a few left as we were leaving after the game. I will be taking mine, probably......... Lovely lady phoned me yesterday from the club and stated will send scarf in post - shows that sometimes they can get it right.
I will be now taking mine - permanent feature |

That could include transfer fees and players wages. It's likely we will see fewer 'top dollar earners' at the club until we secure regular increases in turnover, but I doubt Belgravia would allow the playing side to flounder. That harms ticket sales, prize money and our attractiveness to potential sponsors. There are few assets at the club which are 'not needed' so I'm not sure what significang revenue could be derived from asset sales or downsizing- they will only serve to harm the core business. I also don't think it will be in their interests to appear too detached from the club. They will look to seize on the fact that the current board are not flavour of the month, look to quickly build bridges with fans while not hiding that they see the club as a business venture first and foremost (a bit like Lerner at Villa). The men at the top will be in a tax haven somewhere, but there will be a figurehead Chief Exec and it wouldn't surprise me if they considered a local for the position. |

The flip side is true of course. They won't care about cutting costs wherever they can, if it's not part of their plan. That could include transfer fees and players wages. They won't care about selling off assets that aren't needed, they don't live in the area and will remain largely anonymous. They have no sentimental attachment to the club like Shepherd & don't care about the north east in the slightest.
The first bit of cost cutting will be the £1m wages currently being paid to Shepherd and Hall.
Why is selling off assets that aren't needed such a bad thing? If they are not needed why hold onto them - their depreciation being an unnecessary cost!
They don't live in the area - well the Hall's haven't lived in the area for a number of years, so what's the difference. The Hall's are just "absentee landlords" and I don't think they seem to care muchfor the North-East either - well not now anyway.
No sentimental attachment like Shepherd - so he's been a good chairman because he's got sentimental attachment. Don't think so. Perhaps no sentimental attachment will mean looking at the bigger picture and making decisions which may be unpopular in the short term but may bear fruit long term.
As for not caring for the North-East - do the Glaziers give a toss about Salford? Does Roman care about the West End of London? Probably not - but if Belgravia have plans to build hotels and a casino which will create jobs and create extra turnover (for the City as well as the club) - well is'nt that positive! The creation of a 5 star hotel near to the ground means we can compete for UEFA cup and Champions League finals to be held as SJP. This will increase revenue plus raise the profile of the club and the area

Still glad he got the job? |

£800,000 spent acquiring Souness from Blackburn. Ouch.
Also interesting to note that these results are only based on 11 months, rather than 12. This means some figures look better and some worse than usual.
The easiest £800k that Blackburn have ever made - thay must have laughed themselves shitless given that they were probably having sleepness nights wondering how they were going to pay for Souness's inpending compensation package. |

Assests come in about £163m so they are more than the loans. We apparently have £3m in cash so that's not good I take it ? It was £17m at the end of the last period.
Our cash flow situation is very worrying - this is the hard cash required to run the business - this years cash flow statement states there is more cash going out then coming in. We forked out £36m in cash for transfers this year compared to £19m last year. (Note that this may not have been for this years transfers as a lot of transfers are certain % upfront followed by payment of cash over a period). We received £10m in player sales this year compared to £19m last year. This to me is the most worrying aspect of the accounts. |

Are you saying we need to pay back £67m this year !!!!
Not quite - some of that is deferred income from the likes of Northern Rock and Adidas - which i think was about £24m over the next 12 months. |

Do my eyes decieve me "The board is not proposing a dividend at this time" I expect this to change.
In fact I'm wrong but I don't really understand it enough to understand the difference. Apparently our total liabilities are £146,712m of which 67,686 is current and 79,026 is non current. Anyone care to explain that one ?
Current liabilities are creditors due in the next 12 months; non-current liabilities are creditors due 12 months and beyond. |

Who appointed those managers who wasted all that money? Even better why not let those managers waste that money then sack them and bring in the complete opposite of what you had 4 weeks into the season. Excellent decision making or what
Looks like an attempt to pass the buck - however Sir John you passed the mantle over to Mr. Shepherd and thus must take some of the responsibility for the current shambles. It's not as if you've been doing nothing behind the scenes is it .
There is definetly a crisis as SJH only comes out and talks re NUFC matters when there is a crisis. Perhaps Belgravia see this as an opportunity to deflate the price? |

| Season ticket & programmes, sometimes a cup of tea & snickers bar if feeling peckish before kick-off (although the price is a complete rip-off) - refuse to buy owt else. Made the pledge when Souness was made manager - decided not to buy from the club shops until he was sacked, then Roeder was made manager!!!!!! |
