1  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Emile Heskey? on: December 21, 2005, 03:03:06 PM
Given the lack of talent we have here at the moment, I find it hard to believe that anyone would turn down anyone who is actually an improvement, may not be the ideal player we are seeking but defo better than Ameobi or Chopra.

That said I would hope we are seeking players of a higher standard.
2  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Players we want in January on: December 21, 2005, 10:51:53 AM
Luque will be a midiocre striker as he was in Spain before he was moved back to the left wing.
His ideal role is as a creative forward on the left hand side. The type of football we play does not suit him at the moment.
So, we need another striker and I think we will get ANELKA.
Left back I go along with the myriad of threads about Bridge, but he was going to Manure.
I have a feeling Mouaney will keep him.
CB- I'd vote for Upson or Van Buetyn from Hamburg, ideally anybody who can stay on their feet and is mobile and can
come forward with the ball without falling over...NOT falling over as you can see is an attribute which one day will be added to
footie sims. bluecool.gif

Can't argue with any of that, my sentiments exactly and if they were to all come off I would be very glad, agree about Luque as well, he will never score enough goals as an out and out striker.
3  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: No money for Souness on: December 21, 2005, 09:02:37 AM
the reason i brought up Viana was a pre-emptive before someone would say Luque is cheap in comparison. 8.5m for Viana may seem a lot now, but at the time that was the going rate for top young players. it's no longer the case these days, unfortunately except when it comes to Souness it seems.

again, let me say i'm hoping Luque turns good for us but his transfer fee is the same as what you lot paid in total for Lennon, Dawson, Lee Young Pyo, 18 months of Mido, Robinson, Tainio, and Davids.

yeah we got you back by selling Jenas to you at a higher price than what we paid for Parker, but still it shows Souness does not have the eye for a good buy. We can't always buy Parkers and Owens at every position, we ain't Chelsea. we need quite a number of players, the difference between our preferred starting XI and their back ups is like night and day, touch wood if Parker gets injured or Owen takes another knock that's us fighting for mid table scraps. is Souness the man to sort that out and build a decent squad on a realistic budget? somehow i very much doubt it.

Even with Owen and Parker fit, i can't see past mid table scraps. Having these two (very good) players doesn't make up for a woeful defence.

If we are going to do the "attacking football, concede loads but score more", we've picked the wrong ****er in Souness.

What do you mean?  THe long ball tactics are perfect for lots of goals! blueconfused.gif

Remember its only now that Souness has realised that he was asking players to play in the wrong positions and asking them to do things they weren't able to do, so now he's realised this we are a shoe in for 4th! blueeek.gif
4  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Luque on his way? on: December 21, 2005, 08:59:23 AM
We paid those huge fees for Luque and Owen because by that stage we'd fannied around so much and reached the point of desperation at the end of the transfer window.

Aye, due to the incompetent fool acting the role of 'manager'.

Aint that the truth!

We really are going to miss Parker big style on the 26th!  bluesigh.gif
7  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Arsenal fans admitting we made the right moves.... on: December 19, 2005, 12:16:35 PM
Tring to think which midfield paring i'd swap Parker and Emre for and i don't think i would even chelski's and liverpools with Lampard and Gerrard

Are you being serious? Lampard, possibly the best midfielder in Europe, closely followed by Gerrard!

Jesus wept.

I hope this is a woosh!

nearly got u! tongue3

Close one, very close!! bluebiggrin.gif
8  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Luque: What The Hell's Going On? on: December 19, 2005, 12:15:21 PM
He's not match fit, so we don't play him. Hmmm.

Really hope he plays against Liverpool and then stays in the team for good, can't be doing with Shola on the wing anymore!

I agree, fingers crossed for the Liverpool game!

he will start against liverpool, as will baba and emre.

dyer in contention as well apparently

Nice that Luque is eased into it, isn;t it, playing a half here and there first.

Emre would be welcome back, assuming he's not a shithouse. Couldn't be less arsed about Dire.

Faye has alot to prove against Gerrard.

Problem is that Gerrard is being played out on the right which means he might be up against Ameobi????
11  Chat / General Chat Forum / Re: Please snow tonight on: December 19, 2005, 11:57:38 AM
I hate snow!

Let me explain why!

for a few hours its lovely, white, soft and fun!

Then either one of two things happen:

1. Freeze overnight where it makes all the pavements ice rinks and I end up slipping and busting my back!

2. It turns to slush and after 5 minutes of walking it turns my shoes to sludge!

Nah, I'd rather it was cold, crisp and DRY!!!!
12  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Sack Souness on: December 19, 2005, 09:13:16 AM
Fair point, but how long do you think it takes to build a squad? With the exception of perhaps Bellamy, how many of the players Souness has let go would you expect to see us in the top 4? Whereas I can see the likes of Boumsong, Emre, Parker, Luque & Owen playing in a top 4 side.

And what must Arsenal fans be thinking after losing to a Newcastle reserve side (no Babayaro, Carr, Taylor, N'Zogbia or Emre while Luque wasn't match-fit), and losing at WBA as well?

Top 4 side players?

Emre? Possibly, hard to say.
Luque? Impossible to say.
Parker? Probably.
Owen? Definately.
Boumsong? No.

We played well on Saturday, up to a point, but lets not get carried away and pretend we're a great side. If the Sounessphiles refused to accept it was his fault when we played shite, i fail to see how they can claim it is his managerial genius that makes us play better at times. Between Villa, Arsenal and West Ham, we've played well for abotu 2 whole games. That doesn't make up for the fact that we've been woeful for much of the season. Lets take stock after new year, and see where we think we'll end up.

I agree, we played well in parts but lets not forget West Ham played some decent football and could consider themselves unlucky to be beaten, they ripped us apart when they went forward on a number of occassions.  I was very impressed with Harewood who ripped Elliot to shreds!

A damn good away win and I hats off to the guys for doing it, but its too easy to get carried away.  We still have some players who are playing poorly/are shite and are being carried by a few outstanding performers such as Parker.
13  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Souness' NUFC managerial record on: December 16, 2005, 04:39:56 PM
for gods sake, lay off Souness, dun think wenger can do a better job with a depleted squad like ours.

My gran could do a better job than him let alone Wenger!
14  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Nobby backing Luque on: December 16, 2005, 02:53:53 PM
I am sure he is a very good player, you don't play for Deportivo or Spain if you are sh*te!

The only question I have about him is whether he is the sort of player you can rely on in the winter months on a cold midweek match away to the likes of Portsmouth???
15  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Souness' NUFC managerial record on: December 16, 2005, 12:44:05 PM
The Blackburn Directors must of thought all their Christmases had come along at once!

Took them a lot of deliberation to allow him to go... bluesigh.gif
16  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Would a ground expansion be worth it? on: December 16, 2005, 12:26:42 PM
Who the f*ck would want to come and see the sh*te that we are supplying every week...hmmm, hang on...... bluesigh.gif
17  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Nufc Xmas Party on: December 16, 2005, 10:38:39 AM
I get the impression Boum is't settled tbh, maybe explains why he's been having a poor run of form
It's either that or he's shite tongue3

I think it might be the latter!
18  Newcastle-Online Forum / NUFC Forum / Re: Toon Move For Cassano? on: December 16, 2005, 10:14:35 AM
I would like Distin back here, he is a very, very good defender who can play at left back or centre half and is very quick.

He's by far better than the players we'll field at centre back this weekend. I'l like to see him play next to Taylor. But there again i'd liek to see ANY decent centre back play next to Taylor, just for a change.

Ain't that the truth!!!

Didn't he used to have the chippy on Gosforth High Street?

Not THAT well known! bluebiggrin.gif

Well obviously, I know nothing about Young's actual demands, that bitis just the ramblings of a crazed conspiracy theorist, but dont you think it is funny that someone previously unknown is appointed club president shortly after Owen's signing?

I'm sure you'll find that the "previously unknown" Bob Young has been involved with the club since the days when Sir John formed the magpie group.  He's also Honorary President, Sir John is President and I'm sure that's a title which was given to him for life.

Very good points Mick and I'm not sure how Bob Young can be called unknown, he's very well known in the North of England business community?
